Revue des Ordinations Épiscopales

Welcome graphic

The Revue des Ordinations Épiscopales chronicles the episcopal ordinations of all Roman Catholic bishops beginning in 1991.

The Revue, published in French with a brief introduction in French, Spanish, and English, continues the tradition of the publication of annual lists of contemporary episcopal ordinations begun in 1968 and continued until 1993 in Esprit et Vie.

The first lists of episcopal ordinations were the result of research begun around 1930 by Father Albert Perbal, OMI and Abbot Gabriel Tissot, OSB and joined in the 1950`s and 1960`s by Fathers André Chapeau, OSB, Isidore Perraud, CSSp, and Fernand Combaluzier, CM, Msgr Lamberto de Echeverría, and Monsieur Jean Montier. Their research, which also encompasses episcopal ordinations of the past, has been continued by their friends and colleagues in Europe and the Americas.

Each entry contains the date and place of the episcopal ordination, the names of the principal ordaining bishop (the consecrator) and the two principal co-ordaining bishops (the principal co-consecrators), brief biographical details of the new bishop, and a shortened episcopal lineage.

The issues contain four indices: an alphabetical index of the bishops consecrated; an alphabetical index of the consecrators; an index of the places of consecration by country and city; and a geographical distribution index.

The printed issues and the years they comprise are:

Number 1-2  : 1991 & 1992
Number 3     : 1993
Number 4-5  : 1994 & 1995
Number 6     : 1996
Number 7     : 1997
Number 8     : 1998
Number 9     : 1999
Number 10   : 2000
Number 11   : 2001
Number 12   : 2002
Number 13   : 2003

The pages per issue vary from 32 to 40; the first double issue is 40 pages, the second double issue is 60 pages. In addition to the usual content, one issue contains the episcopal descendants of Pope John Paul II; three issues contain the episcopal lineages of cardinals created in the last three consistories.

Beginning with issue 14 (the episcopal ordinations in 2004), the Revue will be published in both print and electronic (pdf) formats. The print format will be a limited issue intended for distribution to the Cardinal Prefects and Archbishop Secretaries of four distinct dicasteries of the Roman Curia and to a limited number of others who collaborate in the publication of the Revue. The electronic edition will be provided to regular subscribers.

The electronic edition will be published six to ten weeks before the print edition.

The regular cover price of these issues is US $112.00 plus shipping and handling.
