CHRIS EVANS VISITS WITH THE SF/FANTASY GROUP ON
JULY 16TH TO DISCUSS AND SIGN HIS NEW BOOK A DARKNESS FORGED IN FIRE

JULY
DECLARE
By Tim Powers
When the wind moves over water, it may etch patterns that belie the stillness of the surface. Declare’s
jinn are like that, present but not accountable until they are drawn forth. Tim Powers slowly reveals the oddities of the
world as the reader follows Andrew Hale’s unusual life. Andrew’s indoctrination as a spy and war time activities
are only steps on a journey that will lead him back to the slopes of Mount Ararat, time and again. Declare is a mixture
of Graham Greene and Thomas Pynchon. The duplicitous world of the spy and the initiate believer in the impossible are carefully
woven together. So weighing in at 590 pages, do you, the jury, feel that Declare serves its purpose and entertains
or will you use this tome to level out your crooked tables or as a door stop? Let your opinions free on Wednesday at 7:00PM
-In August we welcome authors Tee Morris and Philippa Ballentine to discuss and sign their latest books: The
Pitcher’s Pendant and Digital Magic, respectively.
-Respect you the artist extraordinaire, Eric Hardenbrook for yet another cool frontispiece.
-August’s book Good Omens by Neal Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.
WHY "WATCH THE SKIES"?
Watch the Skies is an informal Science Fiction
and Fantasy reading group of Camp Hill and Harrisburg, PA. We are now in our eighth year of existence. Each month we randomly pick a member's choice to read and discuss. We also spend a bit of time on whatever is new in movies, tv, books and anything else imaginable. In fact that's
mostly what its about, imagination. Call it a monthly field trip through someone
else's imagination with no real rules other than keeping your appendages inside the
windows at all times. Feel free to join us when we meet on the third Wednesday
of every month at 7PM at the Big & unNamed bookstore in the Camp Hill Shopping Center
