Welcome to the online home of the campaign to elect me, Eric David Smith, as a member of the School City of Hobart Board of Trustees. Your interest in my campaign is greatly appreciated, and I hope to answer any questions you may have about my candidacy here. It is no secret that the lifeblood of this city is its ability to produce leaders that we can pass the torch onto down the road. The best way to secure Hobart's future is by ensuring that our youth are properly educated and equipped to lead this city far into the 21st Century.

As a recent graduate of Hobart High School, I understand the issues that are troubling our schools - I witnessed them day in and day out for the past 14 years of my life. Unlike those who have been on the outside looking in, I've been inside the school system, I recognize the problems, and I have remedies to those problems. With the major problems facing the schools today, it is absolutely vital that we elect School Board members that have the know-how and vision to adapt, improvise and overcome.

Not only is is vital to the growth of our city and its sustainment, electing progressive and free-minded individuals to the School Board assists the entire nation is steering down the correct path. By electing members to the School Board who oppose the senseless cuts to education funding by the state and federal government, the unfunded Federal mandate that is known as No Child Left Behind, and the lowering of standards in our schools, we are sending a message to the rest of the nation that says we will not accept things the way they are.

As a member of the School City of Hobart School Board, I will work tirelessly in order to ensure that we overcome the nationwide epidemic of grade inflation and lowered standards. I will fight to ensure that what funds we do have go to the right areas of education - we must set our priorities straight here in Hobart. Finally, I will use my status to fight the state of Indiana and the Federal Government on standardized tests that evaluate our children in an unfair manner that doesn't take into account socio-economic factors.

A vote for Eric Smith is a vote against complacency with our education system in Hobart, in Indiana, and in the United States of America. I promise to work hard in order to ensure success for all students within Hobart, securing this city's future as a true "city on a hill".
