Zaloo's canoes was very helpful and had reasonable rates. They are on the Upper New river in NC

GeoCaching website. Around Durham or even if you are on the AT you can find these for fun. Remember to follow the rules and leave something cool for the next person.

Google maps has a terrain feature, not as good as Topo program but it does work for free.
