Can Route Reaches Out to Community
Our
weekly aluminum can and bottle route through the neighborhood surrounding Bell Intermediate gives students vocational experience. As they work in teams guided by aides, they learn life's
many lessons.
The
can route, which reaches more than 500 homes, is just one way our class gets a chance to interact with the
community. In turn, our students feel good about doing something for the environment. It also gives them a sense of purpose
and teaches them about responsibility.
The project also raises much-needed funds for programs like field trips, as well as generating revenue to supply our
cooking classes.
