I won’t tell you each and every detail of our ministry, but there are some stories that stand out for me personally. The first was at the children’s home, Baan Phraporn, where about 60 kids were left behind during the Songkran
Festival (Thai New Year) holiday. We attended church there our first Sunday,
and watched as children as young as 2 years old lifted their hands in praise
and worship to the Lord. Wow! After service our team conducted a really fun
afternoon of games and prizes getting to know the kids. For the
next two days we returned and conducted a short VBS program with teaching
on Genesis 1, The Creation, and then The Prayer Safari- How To Pray the Lord’s
Prayer. A first day highlight was cooking an American meal for 60 kids plus
staff. I had some older kids and "Jib", the pastor’s wife, in the kitchen
helping as we prepared Hot Dogs, French Fries, and Apples, with Banana Cinnamon
Crepes. Then there was a frozen slushy fruit drink!! They had a blast learning
how to cook the stuff and the fellowship was really nice. The kids
devoured everything except the hot dog, which was in a bun. They didn’t
know what to do with it! Once the kids saw how we ate it, they dug in and
finished it all! There’s nothing like food to make friends! After lunch
we helped each child make a permanent picture frame, and then they framed
their beautiful detailed drawings of God’s Creation. With our great
interpreter, Aoum, we sang songs and played games as well. Then we distributed
new toys to every child, and made balloon toys to order for each. We
also added about 80 new books to their library. The next day after Ashley's teaching on how to pray via
the Lord’s Prayer, each child made a prayer journal and inside wrote
their list of prayers. Afterwards we asked anyone who wanted us to pray with
them to come up and two kids responded. We tied a beaded bracelet to their
wrist and then prayed with them. We told each one, as we were led, that the
bracelet was a reminder of how God loved them, and to pray when reminded. Once
the others saw it was not fatal they all lined up for prayer. The striking
thing was what these children prayed for. It was first for God’s wisdom,
then for their teachers, then for an education and some for their parents
that are “broken” or non-existent. One six year old
boy began to quietly stream tears as we laid hands on him and prayed for him.
But he was so brave; he just prayed and prayed. He was praying
fervently for God’s wisdom. Six years old. I ask our Lord God especially
to answer his prayers. We laid hands on and prayed with (and for)
54 of the 60 children that day, and were almost 2 hours late in leaving. I
have also been praying that our children can have the same heart of God and pray for others. Here is that precious 6 year
old boy:
