CENTURY DRIVE-IN

Location:Century Blvd, Inglewood.
Year built:July 5, 1949
Operated by:Pacific Theatres
Vehicle Capacity:918.
Notes:In 1964, the Century was unique in that it was the first drive-in theatre to show Cinerama, a 3 camera projection. A large screen was required to achieve this. The three projectors by Cinerama, Inc., were mounted ten feet apart in a van, with a throw of 310 feet, and an angle of projection to the correct axis of the screen. The Century closed and was demolished in the 80's to make way for a Price Club and Home Depot.

Many thanks to Evan Warech for the following information (added 2/12/99).

The Century closed on November 4, 1984, and its last features were "Terror In The Aisles", "Scarface", "A Soldier's Story", and "Purple Rain". Also, it went to two screens in 1973.
