EL MONTE DRIVE-IN

Location:9700 Lower Azusa Rd. El Monte.
Year built:1948
Operated by:Pacific Theatres
Vehicle Capacity:875
Notes:Closed 8/16/91 along with the Norwalk. Last Movies:Delirious and Bingo.
Cine-Fi AM sound. Showed Spanish movies in the mid 80's. Open only during summer
season before it closed.
One of the last Pacific D/I's remaining with original
screen and large mural.

***(7/1/98 update) According to El Monte's Redevelopment agency, plans have been submitted
for the proposed building of a Home Depot store. The condition of the El Monte has really gone down
hill. Grafitti is painted throughout the inside and other signs of vandalism are everywhere.
The snackbar has been demolshied but fortunately the screen mural is still untouched.

The El Monte was used as the site of the filming of the b-movie "Bikini Drive-in".

***(9/23/98 update) The El Monte was demolished on 9/10/98. Nothing remains of this drive-in. R.I.P.
