It opened on Friday, 03/24/50, in the Los Feliz district of Los Angeles,
not far from Griffith Park. Opening night movies were "Nevadan" and "Pirates of Capri."
It closed six years later.
From what I could determine, the Los Feliz closed on Tuesday, October 2, 1956,
based on this being the last day its listing shows up
in the Los Angeles Times. Not suprisingly, no mention is made in the Times of its closure.
It also ceases to appear after the 1956 issue of the
International Motion Picture Almanac which confirms a 1956 closure date.
Evidently, the Los Feliz was in the path of construction of the Golden State
Freeway (Interstate 5) through this portion of Los Angeles.
Contributor Mark Tracy conducted researched and concluded, "The Los Feliz appears to have been
a victim of freeway construction as a power substation and freeway offramp are located
precisely where the other address (3237 Hyperion St) for the Los Feliz was..."
The last movies listed on 10/02/56 were "The Killing" and "Cockleshell Heros."
I am not aware of any other Southern California ozoner that closed in the 1950s. The Los Feliz drive-in disappeard even before many other Southern California ozoners opened for business.

Updated 07/09/06:
Contributor Matt Spero sends in this way cool opening ad for the Los Feliz. Turns out this drive-in was a two-screener!
