( Added 8/3/00) Many thanks to Glenn Freeman for the following information:
The Magnolia Drive-In closed to make way for a Costco, which in turn closed a few years ago (5??) following the Price Club/Costco merger due to an existing Price Club (now Costco) in a better location nearby. The old Costco building has since been divided into an ice rink and offices for a Riverside based bank (Life Bank). The one thing I most remember about Magnolia Drive-In, however, is that at one time there was a cheesy 9-hole miniature golf course called Goony Golf on the left-front of the property (opposite of the driveway leading into the Drive-In). If I remember, it had an almost temporary look to it with wood panel sides for each course. Though it did have at least one impressive, and even intimidating structure of which would definitely have been popular with young kids today: a dinosaur. The dinosaur was fairly large and stared down over those playing the hole closest to Magnolia Avenue. However, following the 1976 opening of a mega-miniature golf course (Riverside Castle Park) less than a mile away, Goony Golf was soon after no more. I think the course may have stood for up to a year following closure, but am not entirely sure (it may have just been a month or so).
