Our purpose and our goals
The main purpose of P.S.G. is to Have MORE Fun! We are trying to do this by building up the dance scene via: Dance education, exposure, and just generally pumping some life into the swing scene. This statement entails many things. Our definition of Swing dancing is; Any partner dance done socially during the greater big band era to jazz music of 4/4 or 2/4 timing, it's precursors, and later evolutions. So as not to promote merely one sector or genre of swing dancing. With that said we teach and promote dance stlys from every era and to all kinds of music. You can learn to dance to everything from Dixieland Jazz, Blues, and Big Band to Punk, Funk, Pop, and Hip Hop. In each of these dances we aim to raise awareness in several areas. Those areas are: history, music, dance instruction, style diversity, venues, and events.
How we aim to achieve these and other goals
- First and foremost, by being an active part of the dance communities. Being at dances dancing with others and personifying the spirit of good social dancing and friendly, not creepy, social graces.
- Secondly, via The Swing Session (the dance instruction arm of the organization). The aim of which is to provide professional level instruction at prices affordable for everyone, even college students.
- By utilizing this web site to feature extensive information regarding the dance world in one convenient location.
- The formation of The Public Library Swing Initiative.
- Through extensive research and documentation.
- Keeping material current by continued instructor education.
- Being flexible. We are constantly evolving and looking to improve. We want and need to change with the times and be ready to learn and except new ideas/concepts.
- Most importantly, with lots of help from the many wonderful people that make up the dance community. Without these helping hands little would be possible.
