Buescher 1924 Satin Gold Plated Eb Alto.
This
is not my actual saxophone, but a picture of a similar alto.
My parents bought this saxophone for me in 1972. They paid $75! It needed an overhaul, so another $150 later it was ready for
me to play in high school band.
Unfortunately, the original case “disappeared” during the overhaul, so
I was given a new, generic case to replace it.
This
saxophone is tough. Once, one of my
friends picked up my sax by the neck, which immediately departed from the
saxophone body. I watched in horror
as it dropped three feet to the floor landing directly on the bow, then it
fell back on the thumb hook.
Inspection showed that the Buescher Bow Guard did its job and
protected the bow! The only damage
was a small depression where the thumb hook was pushed in about 2mm. A modern saxophone would have had the bow
crushed!
