My collection of
Saxophones
As you can tell by the collection below, I
have a propensity for 1920’s Buescher True Tone saxophones. I enjoy the strong dark tone of these
instruments. I have discovered that
they do not play well with the high baffle, small chamber mouthpieces so
prevalent today. When using one of
these horns, I prefer a low baffle, large chamber hard rubber Le Blanc
mouthpiece with a moderate to large tip opening. The Le Blanc mouthpieces seem to be made for these
saxophones. I typically use Rico Royal
Reeds in the 1½ to 5 range with my preference being a 3. However, I am currently experimenting with
Fibracell synthetic reeds. They seem
quite promising at this point. For
ligatures, I prefer the Rovner Dark series.
