Just a Little Bit Each Day
I've been learning five verses a day. It takes me about 15 minutes at the beginning of each day and then I spend another 15 minutes at lunch reviewing what I've learned. That's not really all that much time.  It's easier when you are memorizing a whole chapter than when you are memorizing separate scripture verses because in a chapter the words flow together better. Today I'm going to try and finish chapter three. I'll give a piece of candy to anyone who asks me at church tomorrow whether I've finished memorizing chapter 3.

This week why don't you set a memorization goal for yourself and go for it? Maybe you want to memorize just one verse a week. By the end of the summer you will know at least 6 verses that you didn't know before. Whatever your goal, don't put it off any longer. Get a friend and memorize together. Keep each other accountable. Come to memory club on Wednesday nights and we'll be happy to listen to what you have learned. Memorize at least a verse or two. I know you can do it.

Summer Memory Club
Hi Everyone,
As some of you may know, Darren and Lisa broke up and are not getting married this summer. Wait, I can read your minds, "What," you are asking yourselves, "does personal Redshaw family gossip have to do with HNC quizzing?" Well, it has to do with quizzing because suddenly I have the time, energy, and money that I was going to be spending on the wedding to spend on other things.

And so, I have felt led after the month of midnight prayer to start a memory club at the church on Wednedsay nights before youth group. It's not quizzing, though I'm afraid that if I'm leading something that involves teenagers and Bible memory people are going to call it quizzing. Bible Memory Club is my chance to do all the fun crazy Bible memory games that I practice on my Bible Study Fellowship students during the school year, but that I never have time to do during quiz practice because we have to be serious and learn questions and jump on the jumpseats. In Bible memory club we are going to play tag, run relays, throw water balloons, eat pizza, make human pyramids - and in the process hide some pieces of God's word in our hearts for those times when we really need it.

My favorite story is from when I was childrens' director in Omaha Nebraska. A three year old and his mom were stranded when their car died and they couldn't find a ride. Supposedly the toddler said "It's okay mom, and started singing Joshua 1:9- "Have I not commanded you be strong and courageous, do not be terrified, do not be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you whereever you may go." It was a song the child had learned at church.

Come join us and find out how fun learning the Bible can be. I'm committing myself to memorizing the book of 1 Corinthians this summer. I'm almost through chapter 2. Hey, if I can do it anyone can. We all need to hide God's word in our hearts so that "When", (not if) the day of evil comes you may be able to stand your ground." (from Eph 6:13)
