I first became involved with collies in 2000 when I began searching out the "perfect" breed of
dog for myself and my family. I knew that I wanted a medium size dog, wonderful with other pets and children, easy going
inside, but energetic outside. I knew that I wanted a performance dog that could do obedience and agility.
These requirements led me to the rough collie. But I knew that I really didn't want a long-coated breed that required
lots of grooming. I wanted a breed that had a low maintenance coat. Lo and behold, I came across an interesting
fact: the collie has two varieties - the rough coat and the smooth coat! Well, the smooth coat was the total collie
(with less grooming) that met all of my requirements and more!
I then began a careful search to find the right smooth collie for me. I contacted the Collie Club of
America and our state director who put me in touch with some reputable collie breeders in my area. There were a
couple who had litters on the ground and so I began my "interviewing" of the breeders. I found one who impressed
me. Her dogs were beautiful and healthy as well. She and I developed a relationship and I trusted her to pick
the right puppy out of the litter for me. Carol Siflinger (Jetstream Collies) chose a beautiful, sable boy and
he came home to live with us.
I began sending Carol photos of Skippy's development and she asked me if I would ever consider showing
him in conformation. I took some classes, went to our first show, won a ribbon and I was hooked! I eventually
went on to finish Skippy (CH Jetstream You R My Sonshine, CGC, RN, HIC, n/e).
Our beloved collies live in our home and are raised in a normal, home environment. They get walked in
the neighborhood, taken to puppy kindergarten classes, obedience classes, etc. They go for car rides and play with my
daughters and their friends. They are a very important part of our family.
I hope you enjoy looking at our collies. Please feel free to email me with any comments or questions
you may have.
