Spiritual direction is a ministry of listening, of walking with an individual on his/her life journey.  It includes learning more about spiritual disciplines.  God wants us to have joyful, abundant lives.  Spiritual disciplines better equip us for living our lives fully.  In spiritual direction, the director works with individuals to open up their journey to be fuller and more abundant, and to discern what it is God is calling them to do for their community and world.  The spiritual director is like a midwife or a coach on the journey.

I have a Master of Arts in Transforming Spirituality with certification as a spiritual director from Seattle University.  I am a commissioned minister in the United Church of Christ and affiliated with Richmond Beach Congregational United Church of Christ.  Personally, I find ways to link spirituality with peace and justice, believing that the serenity I find with God is given to me for the purpose of acting for peace and justice.

My focus is working with women and men who are seeking to deepen their own knowledge of their authentic selves and of their relationship with the divine – of discovering the God who is within all of us.   I am especially interested in working with those who are finding their own voice after life experiences which have silenced their authentic self.

I also work with Mary's Place, a day shelter for homeless women, as the Coordinator of Ministry of Presence.  Through this program we reach out to women who are homeless and in the hospital or jail.

Important note: Spiritual direction is not psychotherapy; spiritual directors are not trained in psychotherapy.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers –

That perches in the soul –

And sings the tune without the words –

and never stops – at all –

Emily Dickinson
