Special Rules

2008 – 2009

 

1)     All players must play a minimum of 15 minutes each and every game.  NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Grade 5 players will have mandatory substitution every 5 minutes.

The Referee will blow the whistle on a dead ball and all eligible players on the bench will sub into the game.

All other age groups will have substitution at the coaches’ discretion.

 

All substitutes must report to the scorer’s table.

Violation of this rule could result in suspension of the coach and or player.

           

2)     All coaches should try to keep scores respectable with the proper use of substitutions, restricting defense and minimization of shooting.  Continued disregard of this rule could lead to suspension of coach.  Respectable scores are defined as being less than the following game point spreads:

                   Brackets 5, 6 and  6/7      …..    15 points or less

                   Brackets 7, 8, 8-12 and  9-12 ..  20 points or less

 

3)     Complaints concerning scorekeepers, timekeepers or referees are to be made in a timely manner to Ken Jordan – President or Jim Snyder - Referee Manager the same day the issue occurs.  Coaches are NOT to make heated or disorderly confrontations with such personnel.  Blatant violation of this rule could lead to coach suspension.

 

4)     General Playing Rules

          A)   Period Times:

(i)    Grade 5 …. (4) 10 minute running quarters.

(ii)  All other Grades….. (2) 20 minutes running halves.

 

B)   Clock stops last 2 minutes of each half.

 

C)   Period Breaks:

     2 minute breaks between periods.

 

D)   Time Outs:

     2 time outs per half.  Use them or lose them.

 

E)    Press:

(i)    Grade 5 - Full court press permitted by either team during the last 10 seconds of the game. 

 Press is only permitted if the point difference is 4 points or less.

(ii)   Grade 6 and 6/7 – Full court is press permitted by either team during the last 2 minutes of each half.

 Press is only permitted if the point difference is 10 points or less.

(iii)   Grade 7, 8, 8/12 and 9/12 – High School rules.  Press anytime.

    

F)    Overtime – 3 minutes comprised of 1 minute of running clock and 2 minutes of stopped clock.

     One time out per Team only.  Unused timeouts from 2nd half ARE NOT carried over.

If after the 1overtime period the score is still tied – the game ends and is recorded as a tie.

 

G)   3 point shots - Grade 6 and above will count 3 point shots.

If fouled on a 3-point shot attempt, the shooter gets 3 fouls shots if unsuccessful and 1 foul shot if successful.

 

H)   Halftime Shots – Grade 5, 6 and 6/7 - each player will take 2 foul shots at halftime that COUNT towards the game score.

 

I)      Fouls – Once a team reaches 7 team fouls, a fouled player will be awarded a one and one foul shot opportunity on a typical non-shooting foul.  Once a team reaches 10 team fouls, the fouled player will be awarded 2 fouls shots.  Team fouls in the second half of a game counts toward team fouls in OT.  Technical fouls count toward team fouls.

     Second half fouls continue into overtime if need be.  

 

J)      Half Court Defense

Grade 5, 6 and 6/7 - Upon defensive team’s full possession of rebound, the offensive team must retreat to behind half court.  An exception would be if the full court press rules are in effect as stated above

 

K)       Fouls Shot Violations

Grade 5 players will be permitted to step over foul line in making a foul shot attempt.

      However, the foul shooter may not try to “crash the boards” for the rebound.

Should an unsuccessful shot not hit the rim, that is a violation and the defensive team gets possession out of bounds.

 

5)     All leagues, except Senior League boys, use league referees.

     Senior boys (Brackets 7, 8 and 9-12) will use certified referees.

 

6)     No jewelry (watches, earrings, etc…) are permitted to be worn during games or practices.  NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

 

7)     Should school be closed for any reason, games are automatically canceled.  Check the Web Site.

 

8)     Should there be a game score discrepancy, the score book will prevail over the scoreboard.

 

9)     The head referee on the court will judge all disputes during games.  The head referee’s decision will be final.
