Fellow Serrans,

Happy 2007 and many blessings for the year that is upon us!

Speaking of blessings, we are fortunate to have the Bishop joining us at our next First Friday meeting.  This will prove to be one of the highlights of the year because that very day our Bishop will be celebrating his 50th anniversary as a priest.  We all need to be present to indeed celebrate with the Bishop.  This is a once in a lifetime experience and I am very grateful, once again, to our programs committee for lining up such a guest.

The other initiative that we are working on is a special collection to be taken up to give to the Bishop for an anniversary present.  I believe that in the past there was an annual collection by our club that was given to the Bishop to do with what he wanted.  This was known as the “Bishop’s Burse” and he turned around and used the funds for vocations.  I think that this is a great way to show appreciation to the Bishop for the work that he has done over his career within our diocese in fostering and promoting vocations.  Look for a mailing from me in the near future and I urge you to be generous with your donations.  All checks can be made payable to the Fort Wayne Serra Club and mailed to me at 10112 Manhattan Circle, FW, IN 46825.

Once again, THANK YOU and please pray for our priests, religious, seminarians, and for all future vocations.

I look forward to seeing EVERYONE along with the Bishop on Friday, February 2nd.

God Bless.

Nick

Refrigerator magnet program:

Bert Bryan kicked off the refrigerator magnet progam that he has discussed at recent meetings.  The magnets will be distributed to all fifth graders in Religous Education programs and area Catholic Schools, along with the following letter:

DEAR PARENTS & STUDENTS

SUBJECT: VOCATION MAGNETS

Thank you for accepting our gift. We hope it will aid in your son or daughters discernment to follow a life of Christian Discipleship now and in the future. Please place the enclosed on your refrigerator or other prominent place as a reminder to assist in the vocations of our beloved Catholic church.

Serra Club members all over the world are in prayer to encourage our young men and women to choose a path of religious life and fill the need to assist in blessing our faithful now and in the future.

Please pray the Novena for Vocations with us each day for the current Priests and Religious and especially for our Seminarians and Sisters in formation from our Diocese

If you are interested in joining the Fort Wayne Serra Club please contact a current Serran Member for additional information and meeting times.

May the Lord Bless your family!

THE FORT WAYNE SERRA CLUB

SERRA MISSION STATEMENT

To foster and affirm vocations to the ordained priesthood and vowed religious life, and through this ministry, foster and affirm our members’ common catholic faith.

The magnets have a background image of the Blessed Mother holding the Infant Jesus.  The following is the text that appears on the magnets:

Ideas for Families to Nurture Vocations

1. As a family, pray the Rosary.

2. Support and participate in any school or parish vocation

activities.

3. Cultivate an attitude of service by responding as a family

to the needs of others. Seek out those in need and find

ways to care for them.

4. Encourage your children to be involved in the liturgical life

of the parish as servers, lectors, musicians and attending

masses.

5. Celebrate the family feast days with stories of their saint’s

special gifts or work for others.

6. Name the talents of each family member on their birthday.

Express gratitude for these talents.

7. Be thankful and remember in your prayers those called to

the priesthood and religious life.

Novena for Vocations

O God, Who wills not the death of a sinner but rather that

he be converted and live, grant we beseech you, through

the intercession of the Blessed Mary ever Virgin, Saint

Joseph her spouse, Blessed Junipero Serra, and all the

saints, an increase of laborers for Your Church, fellow

laborers with Christ to spend and consume themselves for

souls through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives

and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God

Forever and ever. Amen
