Competition Team Rules and Expectations

  • Must wear leotard and shorts for jazz and pants for hip hop.
  • You are only allowed three absences and you must let April know ahead of time.
  • Tardiness is unacceptable.  Please be on time!
  • There will be no talking allowed while April or the assistant is talking
  • Teasing, harassing, etc. will not be allowed!  If it is brought to April’s attention that this is going on, serious action will be taken to correct it.  This is a team effort which means that you are all equals and in this together.
  • If you miss a practice, it is your responsibility to learn the choreography from another team member before the next practice.
  • Attending your regular classes is a must!  Competition team is not about learning how to do certain steps, it is about learning and perfecting choreography for a performance.
  • Absences before and after competitions are not allowed.  It is important that everyone feels ready before performing to keep this experience positive.  Also, the weeks after competition, we go through video and taped critiques that help us to improve our performance.
  • Costumes are to be kept clean and intact.  You will wear them many times so keep all pieces together.  A garment bag with a check list will be provided.
  • During competition, everyone must arrive promptly with every piece of their costume.  You must check in with April and receive instruction on where you should be or what needs to be done.
  • Team members must remember that you are representing Ms. April and the Spring Into Motion studio.  Any bad behavior will result in termination from the team.
  • April expects kindness towards other dancers from other studios.  You must compliment one other dancer from an opposing studio and make new friend at every competition (even if they aren’t so friendly to you!).

This is supposed to be an exciting learning experience for everyone involved.  If we can work together and follow the rules, competition will surely have you hooked.  Please keep in mind, competition classes are not like regular classes!  You will be pushed and forced to work hard!  There is critiquing involved but it is to make us all better at what we’re doing.  You will be amazed at the growth in your abilities at the end of the year!  I always am!  I’m looking forward to a great season with lots of new faces and exciting new oppurtunities!  Good Luck!
