Our Review of The
This is the layout of the Los Angeles Convention
Center. The South Hall has 347,000 square feet of exhibit space, accessible
by six freight doors and 36 freight docks. It also has 16,614 square feet
of registration space.
Just underneath the South Hall is Kentia Hall,
with 162,000 square feet of exhibit space. It has 9 freight docks.
The West hall is the original Convention Center. It
has 9 docks available and 4 freight doors. The West Hall has 210,685 square
feet of exhibit space. It also has 9,230 square feet of registration space
available to use.

The South Hall is a piece of cake to work. Plenty of docks
and good outdoor unloading areas. Unless you are producing a full-facility
show, you should not have to worry about getting a marshaling yard. There
is enough truck parking on Convention Center Drive to hold aprox 50 trucks.
Just be prepared to have people at the main truck entrance, at the bottom
of the truck ramp, and possibly at the top of the truck ramp to allow for
good traffic behavior. If not, the city will come down on you and hold
things up until the traffic is cleaned up.
-
As for the West Hall (the old hall), there are 12 usable
docks at 2 different dock areas. These docks are usually used by the contractors
for their usage and for empties so there are limited docks available for
unloading direct trucks shipments. This should be taken into consideration
when signing in truck drivers to load or unload.
-
There are no docks available for both Petree Hall or the
Concourse. If docks are needed, use portable docks or be prepared to travel
some distance with forklift loads back and forth between the West Hall
docks and the Concourse or Petree Hall.
-
Kentia Hall is just a converted parking garage with pillars
running throughout the "Hall". It does have 8 usable docks and a nice big
freight elevator that runs between Kentia Hall and the South Hall which
is directly on top of Kentia Hall.
-
Outside empty crate storage is allowed outside all halls
as long as they keep within the designated "empty storage" areas. Trailers
are allowed to be kept at the dock but any trailers parked near Petree
or Concourse Halls will have to be pulled back to a suitable staging are
once the show is opening.

Getting the Freight doors opened up at LACC can be a tricky
process, especially around the Security shift change. The first thing to
know is that Convention Center security will NOT open any freight doors
until the HOUSE security company orders it. So you must plan ahead and
make sure that Show Management has given security the correct time in the
morning to open the doors. The shift occurs at aprox 7:00am every morning.
It can delay the door openings for up to an hour. That's right. It seems
that communication between shifts is not high on the priority list for
LACC Security.
