Questioning from the Teacher’s Perspective

• Questioning is such a vital part of teaching. “Teaching is as much about what we ask students as what we tell them” (Feldman, 2003, p. 8).

• Questioning skills is one of a teacher’s greatest assets (Feldman, 2003).

• Teachers should ask questions that relate to student experiences and personal knowledge (Zander, 2004).

• Teachers should use a combination of random and pattern selection when calling on students to answer questions (Feldman, 2003).

• Teachers should give students adequate time to answer questions (Johnson, 1999).

• Questions should be direct, well-timed, and well-placed (Feldman, 2003).
