Questioning from the Students’ Perspective

• Students need to be taught how to ask questions (Tower, 2000).

• Students need to learn to listen to each other’s questions and answers (Zander, 2004).

• Students should show mutual respect and courtesy to one another (Zander, 2004).

• Students need to be involved in making guideline rules for class discussions (Zander, 2004).

• Students need to develop skills in clarifying ideas that have been presented (Zander, 2004).

• Students need to practice listening skills that require analysis and understanding of what has already been said (Zander, 2004).

• Students need to learn to engage in meaningful dialogue without resorting to argument or debate (Zander, 2004).
