Visit my Trekcapri Blog which I originally started so I can blog while traveling.
Since then, I have expanded it's use to also include serving as a creative outlet to write about my hobbies, interests
and other random thoughts (and trust me there can be a lot of them stirring up in my mind)!

Below, you will also find an archive of my past blogging prior to March 1, 2008. Since I no longer blog
here, I moved my FAVORITE BLOGS to my Trekcapri Blog site.

TGIF!!!!
It's Friday--and as always I approach each weekend with a feeling of "heightened excitement." I'm going
to get a lot of things done! This is the weekend that I will clean out my storage, wash my car, do all my errands,
go to jiffy lube to change my oil, buy groceries, get together with friends, organize my drawers, do more laundry and
the list goes on.
This is my agenda each and every Friday at the start of a glorious weekend filled with two free days. No work and
no set schedules!
Last weekend, all I did was run my miles and watch the AVP tournament (which was really fun by the way). Let's
see if I manage to get more things done this time around! Stay tuned!
Happy "TGIF" everyone!

Spiking Good Time!
Well, went running for 4 miles then stopped to catch the action at the Hermosa Beach AVP Tournament!
On the left, Olympic Bronze Medalist Elaine Youngs! They pretty much blew away their opponents!
To the right, Lambert (who happens to be fluent in Italian) and John! They won this second round match!
And then there's the veteran, Kiraly!
I walked through the maze of vendors passing out freebies ranging from key chains, shampoo, daypacks, sunblock and
the best thing I saw yet -- sunglass cleaning cloths! You can't have enough of these things. Honestly!
I approach one of those mindless "spin the wheel" games. The prize, a cheap old Frisbee! You know those cheap
ones that you end up throwing out after you fail to sell it on a buy one and get one for free garage sale!
Anyway, I go up to the wheel like a complete dork! Everyone is watching because there is nothing more entertaining
than watching a dork spin the wheel for a cheap frizbie prize! Yeah Right! I walk up to the wheel hoping
no one is watching or paying attention! No such luck! Just then a crowd gathers! In my mind --
I'm thinking that I'll spin this sucker really fast then make a quick and quiet exit! No such luck. I
place my hands on the wheel and crank up a tiny spin! Out of nowhere the guy who was nice and quiet for the five other
people that spun the wheel before me yelled out -- I like her style of spinning -- it looks like a winner folks!
The wheel slowed down and just when you think it was going to jump the last spoke and enter the winner's slot
- it stops dead in it's tracks! Loser! I smile and make a fast getaway on to the next vendor!
Other than the DORK episode, it was a great day at the beach! SIZZLING
HOT! If you plan on checking out the action at the AVP this weekend, make sure to take loads of
sun block! You're going to need it!

Someone should be paying me!
For the next 4 months my life
will revolve around training for the Las Vegas Marathon. I’ve done the half marathon
3 times before. This will be my first marathon in Vegas. There are a couple of notable differences this year. First, there is no Half Marathon only the full.
Second, the course will be a loop course starting and finishing in front of the Mandalay Casino rather than point to
point course starting half way between Vegas and the small town of Jean.
This year’s race is being heavily
promoted by the organizers “Devine” racing to being the first time in its 23 year history that the marathon will
run right down the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. Any woman or man who can
break the world record will be awarded 1.5 million dollars. Now, if you were
anywhere near a world class marathoner, you would be training for this race as we speak!
To run a marathon one has to
be focused and completely dedicated. The only possible way to survive and complete
a marathon is if you put in the miles and miles of training before hand. In my
infinite wisdom, one year I decided to attempt to do the LA marathon with no training.
On that day it was also the 2nd hottest day in LA Marathon history.
Needless to say, I finished with a horrible time and I suffered major heat exhaustion at the end.
People run in races for different
reasons. Some like the competition, the thrill of a race, the challenge to run
faster times or they just enjoy the excitement of the finish!
I like to run in races because
I like the idea of having a goal to train for. I like the camaraderie of belonging
to a group of people with similar interests. I like the thrill and challenges
of racing and the satisfaction and relief of the finish!
These reasons are put to the
test at the beginning of every race. Each year I’ve done the Vegas half marathon
I always say this is the last time. Being forced to wake up at 4:00 a.m. in the
morning, in 35 degree temperature and herded in yellow school buses and dropped off in the middle of the desert.

While standing there in the cold,
you ask yourself, “why am I here, why am I torturing myself, I paid good money to do this, heck someone should be paying me!”
And then you see the sunrise
over the mountains, the people around you are cheering, the organizers crank up the music and the people around you are dancing! The starter’s pistol goes off and as you cross the start line you hear the high-pitched
beeping noise of the runner’s timing chips! As you cross the start line you say
to yourself, “this is so cool!”
Frankly,
not everyone can be an Olympic champion or world class athlete. So
racing is the “everyday” person’s Olympic and world class event!
Okay, I’m out of here!
Today is my long run! Ciao’

Back in Training!
Well, I have about
4 months left to prepare for the Las Vegas Marathon. Normally I wouldn’t
care about my time, but this year the marathon course will be going right down the Las Vegas Strip and that's exciting!

This painting is located at the end of the Hermosa Beach Strand and marks the end of my long running routes.
I can't tell you how much I always look forward to seeing this painting. Especially after a long and difficult run!
My training
is progressing a bit slow, but I'm trying to stay consistent. I ran about
20 miles this week but will need to pick that up to maybe 25 next week. I swear,
it's like starting all over again!
As I ran up towards PV I crash into a familiar site. A summer volleyball class. Did I mention that I signed up for this very same class a couple of summers ago! Boy does this bring back memories! Anyway,
while attending college at Washington State I actively played in a recreational volleyball team. We
weren't great, but we weren't that bad either. So then I thought with my previous indoor volleyball experience, I
could easily learn Beach Volleyball. I mean how hard could it be right!
So I take this class
with my friend! After the first 2 classes, I come to the painful realization
that I actually “SUCK!” Heartbroken . . . I continue with the class just for
the laughs. The only consolation was that we all sucked! Anyway, it was definitely
an experience.
It's funny what you think about while running!

. . . this haunts me!
Today, I was saddened to hear
about the bombing attacks that occurred in London’s very busy Underground system.

It was only two months ago that
I was in London and riding on their underground trains. As soon as I heard the news, I began to visualize that nice British man who took the
time to guide us through the underground trains on our first day. I also began to remember the very people that
we sat next to on those trains. And this thought haunts me!
For America it is a reminder of 9/11. For
the world it is a reminder that Terrorist attacks are heartless, mindless acts of violence that serves no purpose on this
earth. I pray that the people that we met weren’t the ones that were killed or
injured. Sadly if this were the case, then it was someone else who was
killed or injured.
My thoughts are with the people
of London. Take care and stay strong!

Feeling Patriotic!

There are a myriad of ways in
which one can show their patriotism! During my early morning run yesterday, I
found this huge American flag spread out on the sands of Hermosa Beach.

I also observed some other creative ways along the strand in which people
celebrated. For many, this day will also mean getting together with family/friends for a barbeque or
watching a fireworks display!
My
thoughts on this very special day of patriotism and celebration were on the many men and women overseas. Hoping
they return safely.

Red, White & Blue!
It's looking to be a great
weekend for the 4th of July. The fun, the sun, the pacific ocean at
our feet and the smell of coppertone lotion No. 30. It’s going to get crazy on Monday. On this day the volleyball courts will be busy and there will be coolers filled with ice cold drinks. All the joggers, cyclists, volleyball players and in-line skaters will converge onto
the Hermosa Beach Strand to see and be seen. You just have to love it!
As the day draws to its end,
we’ll be treated to spectacular fireworks that will light up the sky. Happy Independence
Day “America!”
