For 2006, the original plan was to go to Peru to
hike the ancient Inca trails to Machu Picchu. Unfortunately, my friends informed me that they could not do a trip this
year because of other financial commitments. I was at first slightly disappointed (not in them), but in the fact
that I wasn't going on another international trip.
Then I asked myself, couldn't I just do a solo trip. I had
read of many accounts from my favorite travel community (Slowtravel) of others who have done it and had a good time.
I'm a capable person. Certainly I could do the same. Part of me was a little scared of doing this solo
trip, but I could not bare the thought of not being able to travel internationally just because I can't find
someone who was also in the right place to take the trip with me.
I picked somewhere familiar and then added someplace new
to balance the trip out. I was toying with several options and destinations and decided on the following places:
Prague and Cesky Krumlov (Czech Republic), Salzburg (Austria) and Munich (Germany).
I will admit that I'm going to miss having a travel companion
along, but I've come to the realization that not only is life too short, but it is also filled with "New Beginnings."
I have a feeling that this will be one of many solo trips to come!
This is essentially how my Back to Europe Trip 2006 was born and why I
gave it the theme of "Life is Full of New Beginnings."
