V-AMP EPROM REPLACEMENT

I suggest that you go to http://www.v-amp.com/ and download the installation instructions Behringer has provided.  Use my instructions in conjunction with Behringer’s and you shouldn’t have any problems…

1.      Remove 5 screws from bottom of unit and remove the rear cover.

2.      Ground yourself by touching a metal conduit or other grounded object such as the unpainted metal surface of a PC. You should wear a grounding wrist-strap if you have one. NOT FOLLOWING THESE INSTRUCTIONS COULD ZAP THE V-AMP AND/OR  EPROM AND KILL IT (THEM)!!!

3.      Locate EPROM and CAREFULLY remove the hot-melt glue from each end of chip.

4.      Gently pull chip from socket. You may need to insert a small screwdriver under each end of the chip and pry the chip out. Be careful not to damage the PCB.

5.      GROUND YOURSELF! Yes, AGAIN!!!  ***Note: If you aren’t using a ground strap, you should repeat step 2 often. Static electricity can build up quickly, especially in low humidity situations. Any movement can produce damaging levels of electric charge. DON'T shuffle across a carpeted room before handling the EPROM! DON’T play with a Tesla coil before handling the EPROM! ***

6.      Remove the new V2 EPROM from the static-shielding bag and, WITHOUT TOUCHING ANY OF THE EPROM PINS, Insert the new chip into the socket on the V-AMP. Make sure you install the chip with the correct orientation. There is a notch on the chip that indicates the proper alignment. Push the chip firmly, but no too hard or else you might crack the PCB. If you install the chip backwards, you may FRY THE V-AMP AND/OR  EPROM AND KILL IT (THEM)!!! Then you’d be pissed!

7.      Replace the rear cover. Be careful to align the plastic pin of the AUX LEVEL volume control into the hole in the rear case. DON’T FORCE THE UNIT TOGETHER. If it doesn’t go together easily, then stop and look for the problem. Hint: It might help to remove the screws from the rear panel until you have seated the rear cover on the unit.

8.      Now it’s time to activate the V2 F/W!

You’ve got two choices:

a)       Activate the new presets and parameters and overwrite your old presets. OR

b)       Activate only the new parameters without overwriting your existing presets.

For choice (a): Hold down keys D and E while powering up the unit.

For choice (b): Hold down key C while powering up the unit.

9.      Press the BANK UP and BANK DOWN keys.

10. Plug in your instrument of choice and wail.
