     Lea Salonga was born in Manila, Philippines on Feb. 22, 1971. She started singing at age 3 while her aunt babysat her while playing the guitar. At age 7, she made her professional debut in Repertory Philippines' production of "The King and I." She received her first gold record album titled "Small Voice" at age 10. At age 13, she won three ALIW awards for Best Child Entertainers in 1981, 1982,and 1983.
 
     In 1991 she played the role of Kim in the Broadway play, "Miss Saigon" where she won the Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards. She's made special appearances in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II, Presidet and Mrs. George Bush; First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton at the Women's Forum during the Asian Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) in Manila; and at the 65th Annual Academy Awards where she sang "A Whole New World." The song won an Oscar. She was also the singing voice of Jasmine for the Disney hit movie Aladdin.
 
     In April 27, 1995 she starred in an ABC television movie called "Redwood Curtains." Other than Miss Saigon nad The King and I, her other theatre performances were "Les Miserables," Grease !," "Into the Woods," My Fair Lady," The Fantastiks," "Annie," "Paper Moon," "The Goodbye Girl," "The Rose Tattoo," "Fiddler on the Roof," and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."
 
     She says of her greatest achievement "...Hopefully, the world's awareness of the Filipino artist remains."
