Send a cover letter and three (3) copies of the first thirty (30) pages
of a completed project in any of the above categories. Format with one (1) inch margins all around and double space.
Use Times New Roman 12 pt. font. Include a one-page, single-spaced synopsis including the ending. Include a SASE for
return of the judges’ comments.
In the header, include only the title and the page number. Your name must not appear anywhere in the manuscript pages. The cover letter should include your name, address,
telephone and e-mail address, along with the title and genre of your submission. The entry fee is $25.00 for each submission. (You may submit more than one MS). Make your check payable to: The Florida Writers Association. In the memo portion, write Literary Competition.
This is extremely important. Only non-published manuscripts are eligible. The competition is open to all writers.
The DEADLINE for submissions
is January 15, 2010. We will accept entries postmarked on that date, but no later. This is to give the judges time to read
the entries and return their grades to the competition coordinator. Then they will be mailed to the acquisitions editors.
The winning entries will be announced at the 2010 Do It! Write Literary Conference
April 11, 2010, in New Port Richey, FL. Winners will also be notified by mail.
Mail your entry to: Do
It! Write Literary Competition
7844 Datura Lane
New Port Richey, FL 34653
Prizes: The top three winners in each category will
have their entries read by an acquisitions editor for the appropriate category/genre.
The editors are from Medallion Books, Tor/Forge Books, Avalon Books
and Harper-Collins.
Note: We
will observe strict adherence to the guidelines. Any entry that fails to comply will be disqualified and your check and manuscript
returned. You may not submit a revision once we have your entry. If you have
additional questions contact the Competition Coordinator at: PascoRegionalWriters@verizon.net
As you all know, reaching an acquisitions editor is no minor feat. We are
bypassing the literary agent and getting right to the publishing house. The editors will note their comments and suggestions,
which will then be returned to you with your manuscript in the pre-paid mailer. If they are sufficiently enthused, they will
ask to read the entire manuscript.
Good luck to all of you.
