"Until one has loved an animal, part
of their soul remains unawakened"

Remember me, Carlito? Well, I just made a new buddy and thought
you might like to meet her too. Her name is Salmon, and she's a little, four month old kitten (but she sure looks big to me).
Salmon is a special needs pet. She has some neurological problems which give her head tremors and affect her balance, so she
falls down a lot. Salmon and I love to play together. We roll around the floor and wrestle and even take a nap together when
we're tired. Don't worry, Salmon isn't in any pain, but she will need medical care for her entire life. I go easy on her since
I'm a dog and she's a cat. She's a great girl.
I really love Salmon, and I know you will, too. If you'd like
to meet her, take a peek at our video. It's a real kick! | | |

Hi everyone,
Hi. My name is Carlito. I'm a teeny tiny Chihuahua puppy. In
fact, I'm the smallest of my three brothers. I know what you're thinking: all Chihuahua puppies are small. Well, that's true,
but I'm really small. I'm six weeks old and only eleven ounces. That's less than one pound! |

All my brothers are all the size they should be right now, and
soon, they will be ready to find forever homes. But I have to wait in foster care until I'm big and strong enough. I still
have to be watched closely so that no harm comes to me. I'm actually the size of a candy bar!
The reason I'm so small is because I didn't develop fully. I'm
the runt of my litter, which is often smaller than the others, but I'm even smaller than normal. You see, I was bred from
backyard breeders. Backyard breeders are people who don't breed responsibly. The League thinks that my mommy was made to have
so many litters that things started to go wrong. When animals are over bred, the bloodline gets tainted and genetic disorders
are common and likely. Because of this, I may be facing medical complications in the future – but only time will tell. |

My brothers and I live at North Shore Animal League America because
when all of us were born, the breeders were sad that we weren't females. They only wanted female dogs so that they could keep
making more babies to sell. But we are very lucky that we wound up at the League instead of being left out to die, used in
laboratory experiments, made to be breeding machines or brought somewhere else where we may have been destroyed. Being tiny
isn't too bad, except that I had to be separated from my family. I sure do miss my mommy and brothers. I'm a little nervous
about being on my own, but the League told me that I'm going to need regular medical care in the coming months, and they will
be with me every step of the way. I have to be monitored daily to make sure that I develop properly and grow up healthy, that's
why I'm on a special diet which includes high protein puppy food. This will help me to gain weight and strengthen my bones.
I also get cold all the time, so regular naps on a heating pad help keep me warm and toasty.I am so lucky I'm being taken
care of by everyone at the League. Here I'll be able to get all the care and medical attention I need thanks to caring people
like you who make sure little guys like me aren't forgotten. Because you're so generous, I have the best chance at growing
up to be a healthy dog.
Thanks for making a tiny puppy like me feel so big.
