Lent 2009

Dear Brothers & Sisters, 

Boy how time flies!  We are already in the middle of Lent, a time for reflection on our own spiritual lives.  Where have we been and where do I want to be.  But this year Lent also is different, we are in the middle of a recession, people are unemployed, people’s retirement funds have taken severe losses…how can we reflect on our spiritual lives?  Maybe more than ever we should take the time to look at ourselves, and realize that the Lord is with us and helps us during these difficult times.  Prayer is one of our tools to help us get through these tough times.

As deacons we must always be on the alert for those who are struggling with the economy.  We as servants are called to reach out and assist those in need.  We also need to keep in mind our own deacon community in case we have those who are experiencing difficult times.

We know that if we take this time during Lent, to pray, to meditate and reflect on our own relationship with God our spiritual lives will become deeper with the Lord.
