Glaskolben - Making Blown Glass Ornaments

Level: Beginner

Class Length: 2-1/2 to 3 hours

Imagine your Christmas tree covered in colorful, frit-streaked blown glass ornaments. Now, imagine you created them yourself - choosing the colors and mouth blowing the glass cylinder until a beautiful glass orb emerges! Don’t miss the opportunity to create one-of-a-kind item and learn the art of blowing glass ornaments.

 

Spend an afternoon (or evening) with us and we’ll give you the skill and provide you with the material to create 12 round and elongated blown glass ornaments. Limit 3 students per session.

No prior experience required. You will learn the basics of fused glass, like; COE's, different types of glass that can be used in a kiln, about kilns. Plus,you get to create a fused glass item. We have different molds that you get to choose from for your project. You will learn to program a Skutt HotStart Pro Kiln. Limited to 4 students.

This hands-on class lasts 4 sessions. No previous knowledge or skills required. The class covers glass selection, cutting, assembly in copper foil along with many tips and techniques. Provides a strong foundation in stained glass and opens the way for Stained Glass ll or any other classes requiring cutting experience. Tools and Glass used for the class will be supplied (and you get to keep the safety glasses, fid and starter glass cutter).  Limited to 4 students.

Morton Portable Glass Shop Workshop #1
Level: Beginner/Intermediate
Class Length: 1 session, 3 hours

Learn how to use the Morton Portable Glass Shop to make perfectly straight borders or geometric pieces to include in your stained glass panels or for ease of cutting shapes for fusing. Minimum 2 students, maximum 4 students. Glass cutting skills prefered but not required. If you have your own cutting tools please bring them, otherwise I will have tools to loan during class only.
Discount on Morton Portable Glass Shop available the day of class.

Fused Glass Mirror Frames

Do you have a ton of fusing glass scrap and are looking for a creative way to use it?! Just wondering what fused glass is all about... Well look no further...Learn how to make these free-form mirrors that will make awesome Christmas presents... Minimum 2 students, maximum 4 students.
Glass cutting skills prefered but not required. Bring any fusible scrap you have, but make sure all the glass is COE compatible.

Fused Glass Pendant Lamp

Learn how to make your own Fused Glass Pendant Lamp in this hands-on class.
No previous knowledge of fusing or glass cutting required. The class covers glass selection and assembly techniques. This is not a full-blown fusing class, so only some information about fusing will be touched on. Glass and other items required to create your lamp are extra...Please contact us before the class to discuss you wiring requirements. Limited to 4 students.

This hands-on class lasts 4 sessions. 
Previous knowledge of glass cutting required.  The class covers glass selection, cutting, assembly in different types of lead came along with many tips and techniques. You will also learn how to properly seal your window to make it weather-proof. Tools (for class use only), Supplies and Glass used for the class will be supplied.  Limited to 4 students.

Use art glass to create a mosaic stepping stone in this two-day class. You can display these beautiful custom stones in your home or garden. No prior glass or mosaic experience needed. (You get to keep the square mold used in class.) Limited to 4 students.

Repair Class

This hands-on class lasts 1 session. The class covers how to repair damage to your foiled or lead projects. You bring one of your projects that needs to be repaired and you will repair it in this class...If you don't have anything broken, come and learn on our limited number of example panels.  Please call ahead to let us know if you will be repairing a lead or foil project.   Limited to 4 students.

Fused Glass "Bubble" Dish Workshop

No experinece required.
Come and make a very unique dish with incased bubbles. Extra fee for glass and stringers to make the dish. Then it will be fused and/or slumped for later pickup.

Fused & Wire Wrapped Jewelry
2 sessions - each 3 hours long

This hands-on class lasts 2 sessions. No Previous knowledge of glass cutting required.  In this class you will create 1 small fused glass cabachon (plus, one will be supplied to you...for a total of 2 cabachons) to be wire wrapped. You will learn about fusing in a small table top kiln and 2 different techniques for wire wrapping your creations in Sterling Silver. All materials are included in this fun and easy class. (if you have your own wire working tools, bring them, otherwise we have tools in the studio for your use during class) Limited to 4 students. Mosaic Serving Tray

Mosaic Blocks
2 Sessions - 3 hours each

Come join this fun class and learn how to make a Mosiac Glass Block (just like shown in this website.) Materials included are scrap glass, drilled glass block and electric wiring, paint, grout and glue.  You supply the elbow grease... Limited to 6 students.

In this very intense class each student will build a 4-sided flat panel lamp shade. Previous knowledge of glass cutting is required. This class will cover glass selection, base selection, cutting and assembly of a flat panel lamp shade. Materials used in this class are extra (average cost $50-$100 depending on lamp base purchased). Limited to 4 students.

Fused Glass Christmas Ornaments

No Cutting Required.... Come and make christmas ornaments using ready-made COE 96 fusing cut-outs. Make as many as you want, you only pay for the materials you use.... We will fire the ornaments and you come back the following weekend to pick up your finished ornaments

Intro to Lampworking
(Beadmaking with Beckie)
1 session - 3 hrs long

Come learn the fine art of lampwork bead making.  You will learn the basics of lampworking, including preparing your mandrels, familiarizing yourself with the torch, annealing and safety.  You will create round beads and learn to embellish with stringers, dots.  Limited to 6 students

Open to anyone who is having trouble getting a smooth solder bead. This is a hands-on workshop, so bring your scraps of glass foiled and ready to practice on. Tools will be supplied. Class is limited to 6.

Safety rules everyone must follow regardless of age when taking any of the above classes.

  • No open-toed shoes
  • No food or drink in the class area
  • No running or throwing in the glass store
  • Wash your hands when leaving the work table (some products contain lead)
  • Long hair must be pulled back out of your eyes
  • Whenever possible, wear long pants to protect your legs from burns and cuts  (solder is hot and glass is sharp!!)
  • Safety glasses should be worn at all times
