This site was launched on June 5, 2007 - Hunger Awareness Day - to recognize more than 35 million Americans
suffering from hunger or food insecurity.
Hunger Awareness Day is an opportunity for Americans to show their united support for one of the most solvable
social issues in the country!
FOUNDER
Mark Scott, Jr. (16) is a junior at Tusky Valley High School with a 4.0 GPA. He is a 3rd year letterman on the
varsity golf team - PAC-7 player of the year, and selected for the National Honor Roll and Who's Who Among American High
School Students. Mark has a passion for golf, and hopes to someday be on the PGA tour in addition to pursuing
a degree in business law/engineering. He has compiled a book titled "The Flood of 2005" in Ohio's Northern Tuscarawas
County. Mark donated the proceeds from the sale of his book ($3,000.00) to the local chapter of the American Red Cross
c/o the Disaster Relief Fund to benefit those affected. "It's a great feeling to win, but an even greater feeling
to make a difference in the lives of others!"
PURPOSE
"I CAN" is a youth volunteer program founded in 2007 by Mark Scott, Jr. to educate, empower and affect a positive movement
to end hunger in your community and around the world! Together we can make a difference to ensure that those at risk
of hunger in your state and across the country get the regular healthy meals they need to learn, grow and thrive.
MOTTO
"Feed the body and the mind!" "I CAN" signifies a strong commitment to make a difference in the lives of others,
as well as continually instilling a positive attitude in believing in yourself to achieve anything in life you strive for!
GOAL
"I CAN" encourages everyone to make a difference in the lives of others, and especially the youth of the nation - the
future leaders of tomorrow. Please contribute to the immediate needs at hand. Accept the challenge! Develop
initiative, confidence, motivation and responsibility! It is the hope that "I CAN" inspires a global effect with your
annual hunger relief contribution.
