Dr. Henry John Minthorn practiced in Newberg 1885-1889; born 25 Apr 1846, Ontario, Canada, died 11 Oct 1922.

     Attended Iowa State Medical College, graduating with honors in 1874. Training at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia 

     and the medical college in Cincinnati, Ohio. Practiced medicine in West Branch, Iowa, and married.

     Moved to Oregon in 1883, and to Newberg in 1885 (his nephew, Herbert Hoover - later 31st president

     of the US - lived with him in Newberg, and in his memoirs recalled going on patient rounds by horse and

     buggy with his uncle) The Hoover-Minthorn House is open to the public.
