Summer vacations and gardens
We can't put a garden on hold just because we are going on vacation. My gardens will be taken care of by my Master Gardener Mom. But not everyone has access to these helpful people. There are options however.

You could get a timer for a drip irrigation. Basically, this is a hose system that has holes in it that allows the water to seep out. With a timer, you can set it to stay on for so long, at such and such time and then it will shut off. I think the downside to this is if something goes wrong with the time, power or water supply you might not get the greatest results.

You could also try making a drip irrigation bottle for the gardens. You drill a small hole into the bottle top and then put water in the bottle, screw the lid on and turn the bottle upside down. The downside to this method, is the cap could become blocked by thick soil and not drip out. You have to make sure the hole is big enough to let water pass. Trial and error seems the best method for determining the hole size.

Gardening is My Life

Check out my newest articles at http://www.gardenandhearth.com/LittleGardeners.htm

I love gardening. It’s hard work especially with a baby on the way. My body at times wants to give up. But I am not ready to put the garden on the back burner. It’s a great thing for my family. Good gardens, good food. It’s all organic. I don’t use sprays unless I make them myself using garlic, cayenne pepper and vinegar and natural safe dish detergent.
