AT THE DOCK IN NY

Well, the weather here finally has improved. Last Tuesday on arriving it was 48 degrees and raining. As a result, both Brenda and I have wound up with upper respiratory infections, needing doctor visits. To add insult to injury it turns out that I also needed a minor surgical procedure which was performed sucessfully today.

Since I won’t be re-evaluated until next Monday, 6/6, we are making the best of it by continuing to visit friends and do minor maintenance projects. We now plan on departing for the Hudson River on Tuesday 6/7 if all goes as planned.

Unfortunately, as of this writing, my ability to post photos of our trip is non-existant. I will be attempting to upgrade this computer to allow posting pictures. Just keep on checking on the photo section from time to time and maybe we’ll all be surprised.

One thing that truly amazed us was just how much in the way of supplies one can store on this boat. Three giant trips to the supermarket and we still have room for more. We may not have to buy food for the entire trip!!

GETTING READY IN NY
We arrived at LaGuardia on Tuesday, 5/24 around 1PM and headed right to the boat yard to pick up Heart's Desire.  There was a lull in the weather, which had been predicted to be rainy and cold.

By the time we pulled the boat around to our yacht club the winds had picked up, the sky turned grey, the temperature dropped to the low 50's and the rains started.

Bren and I immediately began to clean up the boat just enough to allow us to spend the night aboard.  Thank goodness the heating system was working!!

The next two days have been a whirlwind of cleaning and doctor appointments and lots and lots of cold weather and rain.  Why oh why did we leave sunny FL???

Will try to post some more, but with the cell phone connection this is taking quite some time to accomplish.  Stay tuned for further updates.

By the way, the sun is supposed to show itself tomorrow.  I'm not holding my breath.

ABOUT TO BEGIN THE DREAM

We will be returning to NY on 5/24 to commission Heart’s Desire for our long awaited journey north. We will spend the next week cleaning, supplying the boat and visiting friends and family before departing for the Erie Canal via the Hudson River on 6/1.

Our plan is to travel the Erie and Oswego canals to Lake Ontario, hang a right to Sacketts Harbor and then cross the lake to Kingston, Ontario. At that point we will decide whether to do the Rideau Canal now or when we return in August. From Kingston we will be off to Trenton and the Trent-Severn Waterway to Georgian Bay as far as Killarney, before heading south to Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula. We’ll then travel down the peninsula and head back to retrace our outgoing path back to NY. As they say, stay tuned for further developments!!
