UNDER STATE AND COUNTY REGULATIONS PERTAINING TO DISCIPLINE IN FAMILY DAY CARE HOMES:
1) Children in a Family Day Care Home should be disciplined only in a constructive manner.
2) Children shall not be subjected to discipline which is severe, humiliating or frightening.
3) Discipline shall not be associated with food, rest or toileting.
4) Spanking or any other form of physical punishment is prohibited.
In compliance with the above, and with recommended child care practices, the following method of discipline will be used
in my Family Day Care Home:
If the child is out of control: e.g. hitting, kicking, throwing, biting, or pushing, etc... He/She will be taken to the
'Quiet Area' where there is a table to relax at and be alone for awhile. There is a puzzle and some small manipulatives he/she
may use. When the child has calmed down we will discuss the feelings he/she was experiencing. Acceptable alternatives will
be discussed. When the child feels in control, he/she may rejoin the other children. The children may use this area to come
to any time they feel they would like to be alone for awhile.
