Greetings once again from the 'Ville. Things
are going well, thankfully, with the new church. We have been blessed
with a number of good solid folks coming out to worship with us
on a weekly basis.
Dr. Brent Roth challenged us last Sunday, and it was great to have him and his wife Pam with us. We also had a very nice candlelight communion service recently. We really enjoy being able to meet at the Huber. It's a wonderful facility with a fascinating history.
I'm starting to go door-to-door to invite
people out to church, and also to share the gospel, and let people
know of our availability. I'm enjoying getting to know some
of my neighbors, and hopefully being able to minister to them as
well.
Pati and I had the opportunity to meet with Tseibu and Tia from Nagaland this week, and also some great folks from Keystone, a missions group committed to fulfilling the Great Commission. Hopefully some great things will come out of this meeting.
The boys are doing well, all working on their studies,
helping with the new church, doing odd jobs, and blessing us with
their presence. Pati continues to do a great job as church secretary,
along with a whole bunch of other tasks that she faithfully
carries out.
We have certainly appreciated the support
that has come
in for Gateway Chapel. Thanks again for praying and caring.
By the way, an article on the Chapel is coming out, probably next week, in the local paper. God is doing some good things. We are blessed by His amazing steadfast grace. Please don't
stop praying.
Love, Jack

Greetings from the 'Ville. A lot is going on as
usual.
We have our fall party for kids this coming Sunday evening, so we appreciate your prayers. The gospel will be presented, so please pray for clarity and the Spirit's power to work in the lives of the kids.
We've been having around 60 out on Sunday
mornings, so that is encouraging.
I've been working at the funeral home lately,
and a bit at the school. Pati does an invaluable part in doing secretarial duties,
along with everything else she does around home. The boys all pitch
in, too, and are a great help. Josiah's fiancee, Erica, comes out from Winona Lake each weekend, too, and she is a joy to have around.
We truly appreciate the prayer and financial support that a number of you have provided. God is doing a great work, and the best is yet to come. God's blessings to you.
Love in Jesus, Jack
(By the way, we had a great time in South Bend last Sunday night sharing
"the Notre Dame story."
Got to see good friends Craig and Jan Clapper, and also share the
riches in Christ.)

Greetings from the 'Ville,
Well, there's certainly a lot going on. We have
now been meeting weekly at the Huber for about a month, and we have
been averaging around 55 each week. We are blessed with new people
coming out to visit us each week, and we haven't really begun to
promote the new church plant in a big way yet. We are still learning
ways to "fine tune" the services, but we are encouraged with the
overall progress.
The church picnic last Sunday was very nice,
with incredibly beautiful weather, and a very good turnout.
We look forward to Mike Roy's powerful and touching testimony this Sunday night for the Jr.Sr. Highers at the Alley.
Next Sunday on the 26th of October, Pati and I will be able to share
the new work here with the Woodburn Missionary Church, so we're
looking forward to that opportunity. Dana Ballinger will be sharing here
on that Sunday morning.
Wednesday night Bible Study is going well, and
we are having some great discussions. There were 19 in my office
this past week. We will be looking at "Life's Most Important Question" this coming week, and how to share our faith.
Tomorrow is our outing at the river, so that
should be a good time also. I also get to share my "Notre Dame story"
in a few weeks over in South Bend, In. That should be fun.
Something different.
I've been doing some substitute teaching and funeral home work. We're keeping busy, but God
is keeping us afloat and moving ahead. The boys are a great help also,
and a growing core of good church workers is emerging as well. Thanks
so much for praying and caring. We appreciate you.
For the kingdom,
Pastor Jack

Greetings from the 'Ville. Well, it's starting to feel
a lot like Fall. And along with Fall comes, of course, football.
And the mighty Hicksville Aces are ranked in the state poll, and
are undefeated. Pretty exciting! The new varsity coach at Hicksville is a Christian, and doing a good job with the team.
We have now had 4 Sunday services in a row,
starting on September 14, and we are averaging a little over 50
each week. We had our Jr\Sr Hi kickoff event last night and it went
well.
We get a little more put in place each week,
and we are encouraged overall with how things are going. We know
that with this great opportunity will also come opposition from
the evil one, so we cherish your prayers.
I'm getting some work now and then at the funeral home and
also substitute teaching at the local schools. It helps with our
income and also is good for ministry contacts.
The rest of the family continues to work hard to help make the church plant a reality, and the core
group is a great encouragement and help as well. One of the faithful
men in the church had a beautiful new podium made for me last
week. No more borrowing a podium from the funeral home...
Again, thanks so much for caring and praying.
Much love to you in Jesus,
Jack

Greetings from the 'Ville.
Things continue to move along at the new
church plant. We met 3 times on Sunday morning during the month of September, and our average attendance was around 50. Joel
is doing a very nice job heading up praise and worship, and Jordan is also doing a very nice job doing our powerpoint. Their
help is invaluable.
Josiah is helping with ushering duties, and making
young adult ministries available on Thursday nights. He is also a great help and encouragement.
A number of other church folks are pitching in
to get things done also. We have begun to meet for prayer and planning in a number of areas. We had a mens'outing last Saturday
on the St. Joe River, and that was a great time. We have our jr\sr high kickoff event this Sunday at the Alley.
We seem to have new folks coming out all the time, and
showing an interest in what's going on. A group of us went to see Fireproof last Sunday, and it was great. I would highly
recommend it.
All in all, we are doing well. I am blessed with
good health, and blessed to be surrounded with encouraging people. We truly appreciate all the prayer support, and also the
financial support that is coming in.
We thank the Lord for His daily grace, and
His ongoing faithfulness. Come visit us when you can, and please don't stop praying.

Greetings once again from the 'Ville. Well,
there's a lot going on here in Hicksville.
We had our first weekly Sunday morning worship
service last Sunday, and we were blessed with a good day. We had
around 55 people out to the Huber, and met in the auditorium for the first time. It was nice to have my parents and brother-in-law out from Winona Lake, Indiana, and a bunch of good friends and
neighbors with us as well.
This Sunday we have a picnic, and open house
at the new church office following morning worship. We'd love to
have you come out to join us.
Hey, there's an excellent new movie coming
out next week. It's called Fireproof, and it's really well worth seeing. It's produced by the same people who did Facing the
Giants, and I would highly recommend it.
Josiah is still here with us, helping with
the new church plant, and finishing up his studies through Moody Bible Institute. Joel continues to develop his musical skills,
and is singing more at coffee houses, etc., while going to Northwest State Community College and leading worship at Gateway
Chapel. Jordan is doing well with his freshman year, and does our powerpoint at church. All the boys are a great
help.
Pati does our secretarial work right now along with all her other
many tasks. She does a tremendous job with all she does. I've been working part-time at the funeral home and doing a little
substitute teaching, as well as all the church planting duties. God continues
to be very gracious, and we're very thankful.
Thanks again to each of you also, for praying and caring.
God's blessings to you.

Greetings from the 'Ville,
Here is an update on what's been going on...
***August 17*** Our second meeting at the Huber went well. We had
around 45 people there, and we pretty well filled up the community
room in which we were meeting. The next worship service will be in
the auditorium.
***August 21*** Several people helped with the booth at kids'day at
the fair, and a lot of prizes and flyers were handed out. In the
evening Joel put on a nice concert at the fair also. A number of good contacts were made.
***August 24*** We had a great time at Grabill Missionary Church.
I had the opportunity to share at both services, and Pastor Bill
allowed us to share about the new chuch plant. It was really a good chance to encourage people with the riches in Christ, and talk about what lies ahead here at Gateway Chapel.
***August 28*** A lady who has been attending the Bible study and
worship services stopped by the house and accepted Christ as her
savior. It was a good reminder of why we are here and what is really important.
***August 31-September 1*** We had a nice trip to Winona Lake, Indiana,
where we had our 5 year family picture taken with all my side of
the family, along with a great Labor Day picnic.
***Praise the Lord that I am moving into my new office. The flooring
is down, and it's wonderful to be getting settled in and getting
organized.
***Looking ahead...We are spending a lot of time getting ready for
the beginning of weekly worship services at the Huber, beginning
on September 14 at 10 am. There is a lot of preparation to be done, but things are falling into place. We'd love to have you join us for the service on the 14th, and also invite anyone that you
think might be interested in the new church plant.
***Bible study at our house on September 10 at 7 pm. The last one
before weekly Sunday services begin on the 14th.
We do thank you for praying and caring.
Thanks, too, for checking in to keep updated on what's going on.
Jack

Greetings once again from the 'Ville. Things continue to move along as we look forward to the new church
plant meeting on a regular basis. We have been learning by both studying and visiting other churches, and we continue to make
good contacts with potential core group members.
Joel will be singing at the Alley tomorrow night
to help raise money for water wells in Africa. The concert is at 7:30 pm. Should be a good time.
Josiah is home from his summer missions trips and is hoping to get a lot of his remaining Moody Bible
Institute studies completed this fall.
Jordan got his fall schedule for school. Hard to imagine that he is a freshman this year.
I will be glad when we can have a church secretary helping here at the chapel. In the meantime,
Pati and the boys are shouldering a lot of the load. Overall we're doing well, and we feel very blessed.
We truly appreciate your prayers. I know that it is a matter of staying focused and staying in prayer and in the Word.
We look forward to next Sunday the 17th, when we meet again at the Huber at 10 am. Come join
us if you can. The following Sunday I get to speak at Grabill Missionary, so that should be fun. And don't forget, fellowship
this Wed. at our house, 7 pm.
Thanks again for praying and caring. There's a bunch of spiritual warfare ahead, as we try to
reach out with the Gospel. We covet your partnership.

Hello from Hicksville. Things continue to move along here in the 'ville. Workers are constantly making improvements on
the Huber Theater, so we are fortunate that we have such an incredibly nice place in which to worship. We look forward to
our next service there on Sunday, August 17, at 10 am, and we invite you to join us.
We had the opportunity to visit Pathway Church in Ft.Wayne last Sunday. It is a very large Missionary Church
with a great emphasis on world missions. It was a good reminder to never lose focus on reaching out way beyond the walls of
the local church.
Pati and I travelled to Ludlow Falls, Ohio this past Tuesday, where we were able to share the vision
for the new church with a number of pastors and their wives. We also talked to Pastor Joel from Woodburn Missionary Church,
and he was extremely encouraging regarding the support of their church. Ludlow Falls is where our district camp is located.
It will be a great place to have available to send the kids from Gateway
Chapel in the years to come. It's a beautiful cap.
Josiah is home from his travels, and he shared with us at Bible Study last night. I believe that it
was a very life-changing time for him, and we look forward to learning more about what he experienced. It's great to have
all the boys home with us.
We're continuing to prepare for what lies ahead.
We truly appreciate your prayers.

Greetings once again from lovely Hicksville, Ohio.
A lot has been going on. Here is some of the latest...
***Last Thursday we had a visit from Pastor Bill from the Grabill
Missionary Church and Joe Wenger, our District
Superintendant. They are both very supportive of the new church plant,
and they gave us some very good advice and input. We showed them
the Huber Theater, and they were quite impressed.
***Speaking of the Huber, we had our first worship service up there
last Sunday with 30 in attendance. We had a very nice
time together, and it was very encouraging. Afterwards we had a picnic,
and God blessed us with a great day.
***My uncle passed away last week, so I attended his funeral on Tuesday.
It was nice to see family that I had not seen for
awhile, plus I was able to spend some time with my parents, which
is always a treat.
***Josiah will be home from his mission trip next Wednesday, so it
will be great to see him again. Jordan is safely home from
his Youth for Christ trip to Minnesota, and Joel is getting ready
for a concert he's doing at a coffeehouse up in Auburn, Indiana this
Saturday July 26th at 7:00 pm. For info. on his concert you can call him for time and exact location.
***We have a Bible study and get-together at our house next Wednesday
night at 7 pm, and our next worship service at the
Huber is August 17 at 10 am. Come and join us if you can.
***I have been asked to speak at Grabill Missionary Church on Sunday
morning, August 24, so I appreciate your prayers for
that. Should be a fun time.
***Summer is fleeing quickly by.
Thanks again for caring and praying.
Pastor Jack
Hello from the 'Ville,
Well, it's been a pretty big week. Hicksville!
the Musical went over very well with over 1000 attending the 3 performances. It was a lot of fun, and a good opportunity to
connect with quite a few townsfolks. Dan Cole did an extraordinary job putting it all together. Also...
*****I had some nice chats with some Crossview friends this
week. It was a good reminder of how thankful I am to have had the
opportunity to be at Crossview Church for the past 10
years. I pray that God will use that church to reach many
souls for Christ in the days and years ahead.
*****We had a good Bible study here last Wednesday night with
a houseful of good friends. God continues to orchestrate the planting
of a new church here in Hicksville.
*****Yesterday we had a visit from Pastor Bill Lepley from
Grabill Missionary Church and our District Superintendant, Joe Wenger,
from Troy, Ohio. They were a tremendous encouragement and wealth
of knowledge in regards to the new plant.
*****Also yesterday Mark Miller put in a very long day painting
up at my new office, assisted by wife Connie, daughter Sam, and
good friends Jeff and Hannah. We are very appreciative to them for
their help and support.
*****Jordan and Josiah continue to be on their summer trips,
and Joel is preparing for worship this Sunday, as well as keeping
up on all his lawns. Pati is a great help with the church work, as well
everything else she does to keep us afloat.
*****We're looking forward to worship and fellowship at the
Huber Theater this Sunday at 10 am. We'd love to have you come join
us. Junior Church will be available for the kids. Picnic to follow afterwards
at our house at 208 S. Main. Please bring a side dish or dessert.
*****We truly appreciate your interest and prayers.
Much love to you.
Jack

that He gave His one and only Son,
that whoever believes in
Him will not perish
but have eternal life. (John

Saturday, July 12,
Greetings once again from the 'Ville.
It's been a big week in anticipation
and preparation for Hicksville! the Musical, up at the Huber Theater.
We had our first performance last night to a good crowd, and it
was a lot of fun. Ironically, Dan Cole, the creator, writer and director of the musical, and who had worked on the project for years, now has colon cancer and so the musical is now a fund raiser for him and his needs. He has done a phenominal job putting
this together, so it's great to see it being so successful. It was
very well received last night, and we look forward to tonight's
performance and tomorrow's as well. If you would like a entertaining evening out feel free to join us tonite at 7:30
or tomorrow at 2:00 in the afternoon.
Joel is safely home from Colorado, and Jordan
takes off for Minnesota for a canoe trip tomorrow. Josiah
has a few more weeks on his mission. The boys have had a busy but productive summer.
Things are moving along for the church plant.
There is really a lot of planning, research, and preparation that
goes into beginning a new church. Thankfully we have a pretty good number of people who are committed to this work, both through prayers and participation. The Lord continues to provide
and I look forward to more hours at the funeral home and other endeavors to help also. Church planting is definitely a faith endeavor,
and we truly appreciate your prayers. We really want Gateway Chapel
to be a place of encouragement and
healing, as there are certainly many hurting people all around.
Thanks again for praying and caring. By the way, the verse I mentioned on my last update was from the book of Jonah.
Jack
"For it is by grace you are saved, through
faith,
and that not from yourselves;
it is the gift of God,
not as a result of works,
lest anyone should boast"
(Eph. 2:8,9).

Hi there. Greetings from the 'Ville. Here's the
latest...
*****Jordan and I spent Saturday night at good friend Kathy's cottage
up at Wall Lake. We went to a little Congregational Church in Orland
on Sunday. The thing that attracted us to this little church was
a sign out front which said that they were having a 5 day club, which indicated to me that they must be sharing the gospel with kids there. So we went, and it was a good experience. There were
about 40 people there, and the pastor was a Grace College grad who
had been at the church for 30 years. It was a very traditional church,
and they still used an overhead projector. Very friendly folks. It's
nice to visit and learn from other churches.
*****Practice is every day this week for Hicksville, the Musical.
Shows will be on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Let me know if you're
interested in coming. It's an interesting show, a lot of fun, and fascinating historically. For example, did you know that Hollywood CA was begun by someone from Hicksville, OH?
*****Joel returns from Colorado today, and Jordan leaves for Minnesota
on Sunday. Josiah and his team are in Chicago at the present time.
They've had a good productive summer so far. Please continue to pray for
them.
*****Things are moving along for the church plant. Next Wednesday,
July 16, we will be having a get-together at our house at 7 PM for
anyone interested in knowing more about what's developing.
*****Sunday, July 20, 10 AM, Join us for fellowship and worship at
the Huber. Picnic to follow at our house. Please bring a dessert
or side dish.
*****Thanks again for caring and praying.

"Those who cling to worthless
idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs."
Great verse! Do you know what book of the Bible it's in?

Hello,
Church planters' boot camp is behind us, and now it's time to get
busy preparing for what lies ahead. Here's the latest...
***Boot camp in York, PA was great, very informative. There were about
30 planters there, from a number of denominations. We look forward
to sharing many helpful principles that we learned, with those who
are interested in helping with the church plant here in the 'Ville.
***We stopped in Ringgold, PA for a few days to see Pati's parents.
Her dad had a pacemaker put in, and he is doing well. Jordan and I got to do a little fishing. We also saw a huge black bear. Very cool.
***Josiah is out in Iowa at the present time on his mission trip,
and Joel is in Colorado. As far as we know, they are both fine,
and being stretched spiritually.
***My uncle Ron is dying of pancreatic cancer and probably only has
a short time left. I appreciate your prayers for him.
***Some of my Maui friends are in China ministering to 1000 misplaced
orphans. I appreciate your prayers for them as well.
***Jordan and I both have small parts in Hicksville, the Musical,
on July 11-13 at the Huber. Should be fun. It will be a fund-raiser
for Dan Cole, who wrote the musical, and has colon cancer. For info. you
can give me a call. (419-542 8898).
***We stopped in Cleveland on the way home from PA to do my blood
work. So far, so good...and I'm very thankful. Good friend Fran M. has a recurrence of her cancer, however, and needs much prayer.
***Coming Events***
*****Wednesday, July 16, 7 PM***** Get-together at our home at
208 S. Main St. to begin to share Biblical vision for Gateway Chapel.
Prayer and preparation. This will be a good opportunity to invite anyone interested in the new work in Hicksville.
*****Sunday, July 20, 10 AM*****Fellowship at The Huber Theater.
Come and join us, and invite anyone
who might be interested in the new work. Picnic to follow......
***Much more news to come. Keep watching the website and be praying.
Thanks for your partnership.
All glory to the King!

Greetings from the 'Ville. A lot has been
happening. Here's the latest...
First a bit of rather sad news. This week, I came home from
my job at the funeral home to find our own cat Fuzzhead lying under our van. I thought that Fuzzy was just escaping the heat, but upon further investigation I found that she had expired, leaving
behind 4 of her own kittens and one adopted kitten. It's
good that I have this new funeral home job, as it has helped prepare me for such things...
On a brighter note, Wednesday Bible studies
are going well at my new office. We have another one this coming Wednesday, June l8 at 7 pm, at 102 S. Main St., just north of our house. We'd love to have you join us.
A very cool story... I felt led to call a pastor from New Bethlehem, PA that I have
met a few times, so I gave him a call this morning. I
mentioned to him that I was going to be in his area on Sunday, June 29, and I asked him if he would like me to preach for
him on that morning. He told me that he had just told his wife that
although he desperately felt the need to be gone from his church on June 29 so that he could attend to some important family business, he felt it was too late to find a guest speaker and therefore
he would have to be at his church on that Sunday. Then he got my
call. That was pretty neat, because I don't normally just call up pastors to ask them if they want me to speak at their churches, especially if we don't know each other that well. And
it was especially neat because this pastor really needed a speaker
on that particular Sunday. So we look forward to ministering to the folks in New Bethlehem.
A few more notes...
*I met with former missionary church planter Don
Rohrs this week. Don has planted numerous churches in Hawaii, and he was a big encouragement regarding the new coming Hicksville plant.
*Please pray for good friend Dave Hollander, on
his way to Russia to visit orphanages that he supports and that we visited when we were there 3 years ago.
*Please pray also for the Vanlaningham family.
Bob V. passed away today after a long battle with cancer. He received Christ within the past year, so he's home. "Absent from the body, present with the Lord."
Thanks again for caring and praying.

Greetings from the 'Ville. A lot has been
happening lately.
Pati's parents
were out with us last week for several days, and we had a nice time with them. After they left we had
a garage sale, which is always a great time... lots of good contacts and getting rid of a whole bunch of stuff.
On Saturday I got to see my youth leader
from
years ago (34 years ago), and his wife. That was a real treat.
We were able to go visit a mutual friend who is dying of cancer.
On Sunday I had the
privilege of preaching at a church in Ft.Wayne. They made us feel very welcome, and it was fun to be there.
We had a good Bible study at my new office last Wednesday, and we look forward to this week's study
at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 11. Come and
join us if you get a chance. It's at 102 S. Main St., just 2 blocks
north of our house.
Josiah made it safely to California, praise
the Lord. He called to say that they were there, and were going to a beach on Saturday. He was more excited
to be going to John MacArthur's church on Sunday. Please pray for him and his team
as they travel all over the US and Mexico for the next 2 months.
Also please pray
for our many friends who are battling cancer and other illnesses.
Oh, and by the
way, we got a letter last week telling us of a former church planter who had begun several churches in
the Hawaiian Islands and is now retired and living in Ft. Wayne. He had been feeling a burden for
Hicksville for a number of years and was hoping that someone might start a church plant here. I
am meeting with him this Wednesday morning to let him know what is in the works.
Anyway, we'll keep you posted here
at the website. We're working hard to learn as much as we can about church planting, and we will be excited
to share developments with you.
My health is good, and I am very thankful.
I'm due for blood work soon.
Thanks again for caring
and praying.
"As for me, I will always have hope. I will praise
You more and more" (Psalm 71:14).
All glory to the King.

June 2, 2008
Greetings from the Gateway. Just a brief
update. Joel graduated yesterday, and we had an exciting day. He
did a great job with his school career, and we're thankful for the godly testimony that he maintained. Pati's parents
were with us for the weekend, and will continue to be with us until Wednesday.
Josiah is getting ready to take off for California.
Please pray for him and his team as he takes a busload of senior
highers on a mission throughout the west and midwest. Jordan just finished up his exams. Hard to believe that he will be a freshman next year. He had a great academic year as well.
Things continue to make progress regarding
the new church plant. Each day seems to validate the fact that this
is where God is leading us.
Next Sunday I will be speaking at 10:30 am
at Highland Bethel FEC Church in Ft.Wayne. I am looking
forward to the opportunity.
Thanks again for caring and praying. Keep checking the website for updates.
Praise the Lord for each new day. My health
is good,
and I'm very thankful.
All praise to Him.
Pastor Jack
A brand new church plant is coming to
Hicksville, Ohio. Over the past ten years, as we lived in Hicksville and I pastored 14 miles away in Grabill, Indiana,
we referred to Hicksville as "The Gateway to the Midwest". We have had a lot of fun with that, and now the name will
take on new meaning and significance as we call our new church Gateway Chapel. We want our new church to be:
A gateway to Heaven, with an emphasis on sharing the gospel with
the lost
A gateway to God, so that people can grow in their relationship with Him
A gateway to truth as we stress the teaching of God's Word
A Gateway to the world, as we emphasize the Great Commission and reaching out to the
world through missions.
We are now beginning to meet with people for prayer and planning. We
thank the Lord for this new outreach, and on behalf of my wife Pati and our three sons, we thank the Missionary Church Association
for the opportunity to work together for the furtherance of the gospel and the fulfillment of the Great Commission.
If you would like to be a part of this new ministry in Hicksville please feel
free to email at RichinChrist@gmail.com or give us a call at 419 542 8898. We would love to have you join us.
We will be updating the web site on a regular basis as the Lord continues
to unfold his plans for this ministry.
First, we are thankful for those men and women
who have fought for our freedoms through the years. My dad was one of those men. He served in World War II, and we got to
see him in a parade this morning over in our hometown of Leesburg, Indiana. It was a very nice time with
family and friends, and a good time of remembering our veterans. One more thought as this day
comes to a close. As we approach the fall elections, I encourage you to really be praying for our nation, that our hearts
would turn back to God, and that there would be a great awakening. Think about this...II Chronicles 7:l4 says, "If my people,
who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear
from heaven, I will forgive their sins, and heal their land." Yes, I realize that this is referring to Israel,
but I do believe that the principles apply to God's people today as well. We do need to be fervantly praying, humbling our
hearts before God, and turning away from sin. And we certainly need to see God heal this land. I challenge you to pray for
our nation and for your own walk with God each morning and evening at 7:14, or close to that time, with that time as a reminder
to pray for a great revival. 7:l4, based on God's promise in II Chronicles 7:l4. I'm trying to get in that
habit. Time is short and the days are perilous. Let's pray.
Thanks for caring and praying.
Pastor Jack
May l9, 2008 Greetings from the 'Ville. Well, there
has certainly been a lot going on. Lord willing, this will be the first of many current and consistent updates.
Yesterday was Joel's graduation party. We thank the Lord for the many friends and family members who came out to support Joel.
The weather was beautiful, and a steady stream of well-wishers came to join us. Thanks to all of you who came, and a special
word of gratitude to those who helped in lending a hand to make it all happen. I now have a part-time
job working at the local funeral home. It is a great chance to meet and minister to people in the community. I
helped at two funerals last week, and I am very thankful to be able to have this great opportunity.
Please pray for the Hicksville senior class of 2008. With the sponsorship help of a number of local businesses, we are providing
75 copies of Rich in Christ to the seniors this year. Please pray that the graduates will respond to the gospel, and
then become established in the grace of God. Josiah is still here with us. He leaves in two weeks to help
lead Operation Barnabas up and down the west coast in June and July. Please pray for his safety as he drives and disciples a
busload of high-schoolers.
Jordan is finishing up his 8th grade year. He continues
to amaze us with his musical skills. He also put together the powerpoint presentation for Joel's graduation celebration, and
has been hired to do at least one more for another graduating senior. He will also be competing in the hurdles in the GMC
track meet. Joel will be leading worship at the HHS baccalaureate service. He has taken a strong stand for
the Lord. He is mowing a bunch of lawns this summer, and will be going on a training mission to Colorado. He plans on going
to Northwest State CC this fall. Pati continues to keep us all afloat. We needed to go to Troy, Ohio last
week, which is 2 hours away. When we got to Troy, she stopped in at the local Goodwill, bought one item, and will resell it
for an amount of money which will pay for the gas it took for our trip. Praise the Lord for always providing...
Well, it's official. We have been credentialed by The Missionary Church Association to plant a church here in the 'Ville.
They have approved the project. We plan on calling the new church Gateway Chapel. We will be meeting at the beautiful historic
Huber Theatre and Opera House. We are going to start meeting with key people soon for prayer, planning and Bible study, and
we are hoping to have a launch in September. Please pray for this new outreach. We'll keep you posted on the progress.
We're excited! Also please pray for good friend Marilyn Sumner. She is battling serious health issues,
and has just been admitted to Lutheran Hospital in Ft.Wayne. More news to come....
Thanks for caring and praying.
Much love,
Jack One more thing. A special word of thanks to the folks at Crossview
Church. We are very thankful for the 10 years we were allowed to serve at Crossview, and we appreciate the many who showed
us so much kindness during that time. The church had a very nice farewell for us on May 4th, and we are grateful for the friendship
of many. We will always have fond memories of our time at Crossview. "As for me, I will always have hope. I will praise
you more and more" (Psalm 71:14).

Hi there. Well, the winter keeps holding
on. I talked to someone in Pennsylvania the other day, and he told me that he thinks someone should shoot Punxy Phil because
of his lousy forecast. I'm not agreeing to that, however I am truly ready for Spring.
Here's a little update...
We went to the Cleveland Clinic last week
for my annual colonoscopy, and thankfully the results turned out fine. In
spite of my request to be "twilighted", so I would be unaware of the test going on, they kept me quite conscious. I got to
watch the monitor the whole time. I guess they wanted me to be able to fully maximize my experience. Anyway, I am very thankful that the results were good. I feel very blessed to be two years out
from my surgery, and to be cancer-free. It's also very nice to have another
colonoscopy behind me...
We only have 2 more months at Crossview Church.
It will be interesting to see what God has in store beyond that. We are excited at the possibilities.
Josiah went to Chicago last weekend to
visit Moody Bible Institute. He went by train, and had a great time. He's getting ready to start his senior year with Moody
Distance, and we're very pleased that he's sticking with it. It takes a lot of discipline to
do correspondence work...
Joel continues to improve his musical skills.
We love to hear him do praise and worship at church, and he's going to be in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers this Spring,
so that should be fun...
Jordan is going out for track again this Spring, and
he amazes us with his piano skills. Joel and Jordan are both doing well at school. We are blessed that the boys are following
the Lord. That's the main thing...
Pati is helping me with Rich inChrist Ministries,
a second book, plans for a Nagaland trip, and everything else that helps keep the household and family intact and moving ahead...
A number of friends are battling cancer, so
I appreciate your prayers for them.
Every day is truly a gift from God, and for
the believer in Jesus, the best is definitely yet to come! Thanks again for caring and praying.
Much love in Jesus,
Jack

hears my word, and believes Him who sent me, has eternal life. He will not
be condemned. He has crossed over from death to life." (Jesus)

Hello. Well, a lot has transpired over the
past few weeks.
We praise the Lord for a nice Christmas.
We got to go to Ashtabula, Ohio for Christmas Day to spend
time with Pat's family. Josiah's girlfriend Whitney then spent New Year's with us here. My parents and sister were in Florida
for the holidays, so we hope to get together with them eventually for a belated Christmas...
After much prayer and intense soul-searching,
I resigned my position as senior pastor at Crossview Church yesterday after being there for nearly l0 years. It was a
tough call, and it was hard to make the announcement on Sunday,
but I feel certain that it had to be done.
So...where do we go from here? We're
trying to figure that out, so we appreciate your prayers. It appears that we will continue to be at Crossview until May 4,
with hopefully a severence period following that. One of our concerns is health insurance, which unfortunately is a little
trickier to work with due to my little bump in the road a couple of years ago. We do know that God has a plan, and we want
to follow that plan and trust the God of that plan...
One thing that I hope to do between now and leaving Crossview is to go to Nagaland for a couple of weeks in March. I will keep you posted on that...
If you happen to hear of any openings that
you think might fit my gifts and aptitudes, please let me
know. We are excited to see what God has in store...
And wow, it's hard to believe that it was 2 years
ago right now that I was in the Cleveland Clinic, recovering
from surgery. I am doing well, praise the Lord, and I go back for my annual colonoscopy next month...
Pati is doing well, especially considering the
uncertainty of the future. Josiah continues to work
hard at his Moody Bible Institute studies. Joel continues to perfect his guitar and singing skills, and Jordan just got back from a winter retreat, and is playing junior high
basketball.
All in all, we are well, and are thankful
for God's ongoing grace.
Thanks again for your prayers and for caring.
Jack

Hi there. Well, here I go again, trying to get consistent
with my updates.
The last time I wrote,
we were getting ready to go to Atlanta for my wife's football competition. We really had a great time. Dr.Pepper and
Chick-Fil-A treated us like royalty, and so did the folks at the
Omni Hotel. We were very impressed.
Pati did great at the football throw. She got beat by a former high school quarterback, but she did beat out an 80 year old gramma and a guy who is legally blind, among others. She really did quite well, but as the rules were explained to all the contestants, we realized that
the guys would have a huge advantage over the gals, as it would be
largely a battle of strength as well as skill. So we realized very
quickly that Pati wouldn't be a million dollar winner, but we truly felt
very grateful to the Lord just for the opportunity to go on the trip. We had the chance to share some great fellowship with a number of Christian contestants, and to share with some others who didn't know the Lord. The trip was just a lot of fun, and we are very thankful
we got to go. The
LSU-Tennessee game was a treat, too. Great rivalry...
The boys are doing well. Jordan has been playing basketball, Joel has been playing his guitar, and Josiah has been doing
his Moody Bible Institute studies. We're glad to have them here.
My parents and sister and her family are on their way to Florida for some time together. It would be a nice time of year to be there. Lord willing, we will be getting to see some of my wife's family next week at Christmas.
My health
is good, praise the Lord. All in all, I just feel very blessed and thankful for each day.
We had dinner and shared great memories with some dear friends from
Maine this evening. I had the privilege of doing their wedding in Maine
a little over 10 years ago. They were here with his mom, very good friend Kathy, along with their two kids. Great time of reminiscing and catching up.
More news to come. Enough for now.
Thanks again
for praying and caring. May you have a blessed Christmas. "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet your sakes he became poor, so that you through his
poverty might become rich"(IICor.8:9).
In Christ,
Jack
November 16, 2007 Hi there. Warmest greetings from Hicksville, Ohio, historic
Gateway to the Midwest. Just a little update from the Teeples. We are well, praise the Lord. Josiah
continues to do well with his Moody Bible Correspondence Courses. He is also helping head up the work with the young adults
at church. Tomorrow he is helping with a bread handout at Love Church in Ft.Wayne, IN.
Joel continues to help with praise and worship at church and at the local
YFC outreach at The Alley. He is hoping to bag a deer in a couple of weeks out in Pennsylvania.
Jordan is out for eighth grade basketball this fall, and is involved in drama
at the church.
The boys are a blessing. They add quite a bit of entertainment to our lives.
My health continues to be good, for which I am very thankful. I got to speak at Taylor University in Fort Wayne a couple of
weeks ago, so that was a lot of fun. I do feel extremely thankful to the Lord every day for my health and my healing, especially
when so many are going through very difficult times.
Well, now for the BIG news...yes, my wife is expecting.... to go to
Atlanta in a couple of weeks to compete in a football-throwing competition. It is sponsored by Chick Filet and Dr.Pepper.
She won a contest a couple of weeks ago, and we get to go to the SEC Championship game in Atlanta on December 1. She also
gets to compete for a chance throw a football to win up to a million dollars. She's been out practicing in the yard ever since
she heard about the trip. It should be fun, even if she doesn't win any money. We'll keep you posted on the big competition...
Anyway, God continues to extend His amazing grace, and we are thankful for each day.
Thanks again for caring and praying.
Love, Jack
and Happy Thanksgiving...
"Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship
God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire" (Hebrews 12:28-29).
October 5, 2007
Hi there. Finally an update for those of you who still check in to see what's going on here in the Ville.
The beautiful weather still hangs on, praise the Lord. We have been scraping and painting
our house while these good sunny days continue. Josiah is here with us now, and he is a big help. He is doing his correspondence
courses through Moody Bible Institute, and also taking a class at Northwest State Community College. He is also helping Pati
with her ebay business.
Joel is also taking classes at NSCC,and is able to be picking up college credits while he is in his senior
year. He also is continuing to play guitar at The Alley, and also with the praise band at church.
Jordan is doing well in the eighth grade. He is also in drama at church. He's thinking about playing basketball,
and running track in the spring again.
Pati and I went down to southern Indiana last weekend so I could do the wedding of Seth Hollander and
fiancee Shannon. Seth is the son of Dave and Joyce, good friends for the past 25 years. It was an outdoor wedding, the weather
was great and we had a really good time. I even got to visit Jack Teeple Road, so that was kind of fun. On the way back we
stopped in Brown County State Park and Nashville, IN to check out the shops there.
Tomorrow I get to do another wedding, this time for a young lady and her fiance from up around
Montpelier, OH. Vanessa Mercer was up at Bridgewater when I was pastor there, so it's a neat privilege to get to do her wedding.
I am thankful that my health is now good enough to do some of these special events. Speaking of health, my
last checkup at Cleveland Clinic was good, thankfully, with no complications and no surprises.
I thank the Lord for His grace and mercy...I also recently heard that 8 or 10 copies of Rich in Christ
were taken to Africa, and are being used by pastors there to teach the riches to hundreds of kids in orphanages. That's pretty
cool.
Anyway, we're doing well, and trying to stay focused in these last days. Thanks for your prayers on
our behalf, and for a number of good friends who continue to battle cancer and other difficult struggles. Some of those battling
cancer are Betty, Jay, Tanya, Golda, and little Ethan.
Thanks again for caring. God is good. Keep running
the race and fighting the good fight of faith.
"God is able to keep us from falling, and to deliver us into His glorious presence, without fault and with great
joy."
Thanks to God for His amazing grace. We are great sinners but thankfully Jesus is a greater Savior.
In His grace, Jack
July 23, 2007
Hi there. Well, it's been a long time since
there has been an update. Summer is fleeting.
My health is good, praise the Lord. The trip
to Cleveland in May went well, with no bad news.
Joel had a good missions trip to the Dominican Republic
a few weeks ago, and Jordan just got back from his missions trip to Cincinnati. Josiah is now in Mississippi, helping with
the Grace Brethren National Youth Conference. Pati has been busy with her ebay, and going to auctions and garage sales.
It was a lot of fun going back to our old church
in Bridgewater a few weeks ago, to speak and to renew old acquaintances. Josiah also had the opportunity to speak at Bridgewater
a week ago. It's cool that he was 10 years old when we left the church there, and now he had the chance to return there at
21 as the guest speaker.
This week is VBS at the church, so that should
be fun. We're raising money to buy bicycles for pastors in the Congo
so they won't have to walk from village to village. Pati's sister and
daughters recently stayed a few days with us, as did her parents a week before that, so that was fun.
Our friend Fran is still battling cancer, and also Tanya
from our church is having cancer-related surgery today, so I appreciate your prayers for both.
God is good, and His mercies are new every morning.
Great is His faithfulness.(Lamentations)
Thanks again for praying and caring. Love, Jack
February 22, 2007
Hi there. We just got back from Cleveland Clinic yesterday, after
I had my chest xray, blood test, and colonoscopy. The colonoscopy
was a bit different, as they gave me no meds or sedation.
How exciting to get to watch your innards on TV! Actually the process wasn't too bad, although like a scary movie, I didn't actually watch much of the show...
Thankfully I got a good report, and another colonoscopy won't be
necessary until a year from now. I'm very thankful, and glad
to get this one behind me.
The night before, during the prep, drinking 4 liters of nasty solution, Pati and I stayed with our nephew
in Cleveland. It was very nice to stay there, and it
was only about 10 minutes from the clinic, and my nephew has
a very nice bathroom...So anyway, I thank the Lord for a clean bill of health.
I try to be very thankful for each day and
moment I'm given. All praise to God, from Whom all blessings
flow...By the way, my cousin Larry had his surgery today for his broken leg. We'll know more tomorrow...
Thanks again for caring and praying.

Hi. Time to start keeping up with some regular
updates. A lot is going on.
Just got back from taking my wife
to Maui for our belated 25th anniversary. We stayed at my friend's condo while she was in Canada to be with her nearly
l02 year old mother. Had a wonderful time, and got to hand out a lot of How to Get to Heaven From Paradise
tracts, and I also got to preach at Pastor Roland's church in Haiku. The weather was great, and we saw whales, sea
turtles, mongooses, and even some deer.
My cousin and his wife were also there
during part of our stay, and we got to spend some time with them. Sadly, my cousin Larry was tossed by a horse
while there, and broke his leg in two places. He's facing surgery this coming Thursday and appreciates our prayers...
Tomorrow we head for Cleveland Clinic
to have my colonoscopy, chest xray, and blood test on Wednesday, and I appreciate your prayers for that
as well.
Good friends Ray Miller and Mary Barks both
graduated to Heaven while we were in Maui. They will be missed, but are at home...Little Ethen Teeple, at 4 years old is battling
cancer again. This little guy has gone through more than many people endure in a lifetime. Please pray for a miracle for him
and his family. Thanks. More news to come...
Thanks again for praying and caring.
Love, Jack

Hello to all of you still faithfully checking out updates
at this website.
Ah, memories... A year ago at this time I had just come out of
surgery, continuing on with the longest, most difficult l5 days of my life. So on this day of 2007, I am profoundly
grateful to be where I'm at. Instead of being at the clinic, this year has brought increased ministry opportunities
in many ways. I am thankful to be healthy, as there so many hurting people all around me who need to be encouraged.
I just really want to be able to reach out to others this year. So many were here for me last year, and now I hope
to return the favor to others...
Josiah spent the holidays with us, and now is back in Akron,
Oh. It was wonderful to have him home with us. Joel helped lead worship at church today. Although I miss seeing him
play basketball (as do many other Aces fans), I am thankful that if he had to give up basketball, he traded it for
a guitar, and he is using it to bless others. Jordan was gone this this weekend on a Jr.Hi retreat. They took a polar
bear plunge into the chilly waters of a Michigan lake. I wonder if that has anything to do with the hoarseness in
his voice he brought home...
Pati just got back from Chicago, where she helped our niece and
nephew sort through their dad's estate. He passed away a little over a week ago in Chicago, and I had the privilege
of sharing the Gospel at his memorial service in Jamestown, Pa. last Monday.
Over all, we're doing well. God continues to be very gracious,
in the midst of the good times and the not so good. Blessed be His name, now and forever! Thanks again for caring
and praying, and God bless you in this new year.
Love, Jack
December 21, 2006
Well, it's been a long time since there's
been an update. Sorry about that. However, I guess that no news is, as they say, good news.
I am doing well, praise the Lord. A year ago at
this time, life was filled with much uncertainty. I feel so blessed
to be where I now am at, healthwise, and in every other way as well.
Josiah is home with us, and it is great to have him here.
He had another appointment with the ear doctor and all is now well. Turns out he had a "rare" coating on his ear drum
from the ear drops that was causing the last of his problems. The Doc said he only sees this happen about once
or twice a year. This was a much easier visit than the first, (trying to the pry the coating off the ear drum! MAJOR
OUCH!) But the new drops he gave helped clear things up. He was at the church with me today, and tonight he helped me with a Bible Study at a nursing home, and then went on a couple
other visits with me. We had a great time. Joel has been
starting to run and get in shape, getting ready to run track
in the spring. Jordan has enjoyed singing in a local Christmas concert, and trying to figure out what is in the
packages under the Christmas tree for him! Pati and I are blessed with these 3 young men. God has been very good.
Even the December weather has been a treat. In the midst
of all the blessings, there certainly are a lot of hurting people
around. My prayer is that I will be much less selfish, and more caring
about others and their needs. Self-consumption is a hard thing to overcome, but that's the goal. Anyway, I hope you have a blessed Christmas.
Thanks again for caring and praying.
Love, Jack
Friday, December 1, 2006
Hello. Just a little update. Well, the warm balmy weather is about to end,
I guess. I went to visit a couple from our church last night
in the Ville, and there were nightcrawlers all over their driveway.
They'd better hurry back down their holes in the ground pretty quickly, or
they'll be frozen for sure...
It was tempting to go to PA last Sunday and Monday
to go deer hunting, but I opted out. The l2 hour round trip seemed
overwhelming, and some other issues seemed prohibitive as well. Besides,
Josiah was still with us, so I wanted to spend as much time with
him as possible. Josiah is returning from Akron again tomorrow, to see an ear specialist regarding a long-running ear infection. Hopefully we can get him some relief. Tomorrow night he and
Joel and Jordan are going to a Christian concert in Ft.Wayne, so
that should be fun...
I am very thankful that I don't have to return to Cleveland until next February. I must say, if regularity is the
key to a healthy colon, and general good health, then my multiple
trips to see "John" each and every day should indicate that I am
extremely healthy. Whenever I am tempted to be frustrated with my frequent visits to the throne room, I remind myself that it sure beats still having my ileostomy. I do try to just thank the Lord
for each day that He graciously gives me, and each good moment, and
that He has graciously given me 53 wonderful years, filled with many
blessings that I have in no way deserved in any way. So, all praise to Him. Thanks again for praying and caring. Much love, Jack

Hi. Happy Thanksgiving. Tomorrow my family is coming out to have Thanksgiving with us, so that will be nice.
I certainly am thankful this year for my health and healing, along with so many other blessings.
Last Sunday my family and I were at New Salem Church over in Milford, Indiana. We really
had a great time, and the people were very gracious and receptive. It was wonderful to see many friends from the
past, and to be back at the church where I grew up. Again, I just felt so blessed to even be there...
Josiah is home now for several days and it's great to have him here...And some very good news...Little Ethan
Teeple (no relation), who is now 4 years old and has had 2 bouts with prostate cancer in his very young life, has been declared
free from cancer. I pray that the little guy never has to experience any of it again!
Well, thanks again for caring and praying. "So we fix our eyes, not on what is seen, but on what is unseen; for
what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." II Cor 4:l8

Hi. Just wanted to let you know briefly what's been
going on.
We went to Cleveland Clinic last Thursday for my 3
month checkup, and thankfully everything went fine. I don't have to go back until February 21 of 2007, and at that time I
will have my exam, blood test and colonoscopy. So...it's nice to have a 3 month break until I have to return to the clinic.
While we were there, Pati and I had the privilege
of visiting a young lady from Ft.Wayne who had just had surgery at the clinic. She was doing well, and I'll admit it was nice
to visit her and then walk out instead of being admitted. Visiting there always makes me very thankful to be out and about.
On the way home we stopped to have dinner with Josiah
in Akron. It was great to see him, and he's doing well.
Last Sunday I got to speak at Central Church in Ft.Wayne
3 times. We had a wonderful time seeing old friends, sharing the riches in Christ, and going to lunch with Pastor Don Delagrange,
his wife Gloria, and good friend Gary Peters. The folks at Central were very receptive and enthusiastic, and made us feel
very welcome.
Today was a beautiful fall day. Truly every day is
a gift from God, and for believers in Jesus, the very best is yet to come...As Asaph said in Psalm 73, "Yet I am always
with you, you hold me by my right hand, you guide me with your counsel, and
afterwards you will take me into glory." We are blessed indeed. Thanks again for caring and praying.
By the way, I plan on speaking at New Salem Church
in Milford, Indiana on Sunday, November l9, so if you're in the area, come join us. Should be fun!
Love Jack
October 29, 2006
Hi.
Well, it's been a good, full weekend. After doing
a small wedding on Friday afternoon, I took off for Bair Lake in Jones,
Michigan to speak at a retreat on Friday night and Saturday. There
were about 50 kids there from the Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church.
They were a real sharp group, and it was a lot of fun sharing the riches
in Christ with them. After speaking 3 times, it was time to head back to get focused for Sunday morning.
On the way back to the Ville, I had the pleasure
of hearing Josiah on the radio chatting with a DJ doing a Saturday
night show. That was fun. I was also taking time to listen to Joel
on a CD, singing some tunes written by his friend, Ben. Joel's musical
abilities continue to amaze me. I hope he keeps working at developing the
gifts that God has given him. It was also nice to talk to Pati and Jordan as I was driving home. Jordan had just gotten back from a Youth for Christ outing, and was pretty exhausted. As I got
closer to home, he called me again to tell me that he and his mom were
hiding in the bathroom, thinking they had heard a bat. Yes, I also
heard the bat when I got home, but was unable to discover his whereabouts,
and headed up to bed. I told Pati to holler if the bat showed up. She assured me that she would...
We had a great time of fellowship and worship at church
this morning. Attilla and Tamara, missionaries and church planters
were with us, challenging us with the great spiritual needs in Hungary. It was very challenging and enlightening.
All in all, it was a good day, capped
off with the annual Adventure Club bonfire and hayride. Thankfully,
God gave us a beautiful day.
On Thursday of this coming week we head back to Cleveland for my blood test and exam. Hopefully it will be a very uneventful
time at the Clinic...
Next Sunday I get to speak at Central Church
on the east side of Fort Wayne. It will be two services in the morning,
and then again in the evening, sharing about focusing in, rejoicing in, and responding to, our riches in Christ. Should be fun. Thanks again for caring and praying.
Love, Jack

October 20, 2006
Hi.
A week ago at this time, Pati, Joel, Jordan,
and I were out in PA. The boys were out of school on that Friday and on the following Monday, and since my birthday was on
Sunday, it was a great time to be gone. Hard to believe that I am 53 years old. My doctor says I have the body and mind of
a 52
year old. Maybe he's just being kind...Anyway, it was a nice time out
in PA with Pati's family, and Josiah came out to join us for a couple of days also.
On the way back to the Gateway, we got to see
where Josiah works and lives in Akron, Oh. It was wonderful to have the whole family together for awhile. While in PA, Joel
was deer hunting and I was squirrel hunting, and the animals were in no danger, apparently. It was a beautiful time to be
out there, and I am thankful that I felt good the whole time.
My plumbing is still a bit unpredictable at
times, but I feel blessed that that is the main thing I have to contend with. God has been very gracious, and I certainly
have nothing to complain about.
On a bittersweet note, my good friend Pat passed
away on my birthday. She was 56. Pat is now in Heaven since she had put her trust in Jesus as her Lord and Savior. It is somewhat
ironic that she died at 9 AM on Sunday. She had been teaching a Sunday School class on "Heaven", but on this particular Sunday,
instead of teaching about Heaven, she got to go there in person. How ultimately cool is that. "To be absent from the body
is to be present with the Lord." She left behind a grieving husband and 2 daughters, but they rejoice that she is now cancer
free and HOME.
Thanks again for praying and caring.
Much love, Jack
By the way, please pray for a mini Rich in Christ seminar this Sunday
at Crossview, and sharing the riches with about
50 senior highers up at a camp in Michigan next weekend. Thanks.
October 7, 2006
Hi there. Greetings from beautiful Hicksville,
historic Gateway to the Midwest. We have been enjoying some wonderful fall weather here lately. I thank the Lord each day
for the opportunity to walk outside and take in a breath of fresh air.
I am often reminded how very blessed we are
in America. Praise the Lord for the freedom we still enjoy, and as Christians, the many riches in Christ that we possess.
It has been fun starting to do some mini
Rich in Christ seminars at church during our Bible Connection classes, as well as continuing to preach through the riches
during our worship services. I look forward to speaking at Central
Church in Fort Wayne on Nov.5, and at New Salem Church on Nov. l9. At Central it will be two services in the morning, and
then again at 6pm in the evening, and at New Salem it will be homecoming.
It will be nice to see old friends that I haven't seen in quite awhile. Of course at my age, pretty much all my friends are old...
Anyway, God has been gracious, and I feel a little
stronger all the time. Do please pray for dear sister in Christ, Pat Hurd, and her family. Pat is in the late stages of her
cancer, and it is inoperable. She is strong in the Lord, but this is a very tough time for her and her husband Gary and their
2 daughters.
Again, thanks for caring and praying. God's
blessings to you.

Hi there. Praise the Lord for the beautiful
fall weather. Actually, according to the calendar, I guess it's still officially summer.
Josiah is back in Akron, following a two-week
orientation for the new 412 Commission students. He seems to really be enjoying his work. Joel is preparing to lead worship
at the JV weekend coming up in a few weeks, and is faithfully cheering on his Fighting Irish. Jordan is memorizing lines for the big Adventure Club opening party next Sunday.
The church's Adventure Club float will be in
the Grabill Days parade this coming Saturday, so that should be fun. I was asked to be Jesus on the float, so that would
what I would call bad casting. It will be a very imperfect person playing the part of a totally perfect person. Anyway, the
beard is pretty well all grown in, so I guess I'll be pretty well ready.
Good friend Bill Z. got the 1903 replica car, up and running
again, so I hope to take that in to Grabill this week also.
I did get the results of my blood test today
from Cleveland Clinic, and everything is fine at the present time. I do believe that the cancer is gone, and I will continue
to believe this until proven otherwise, which I don't plan on happening. I am truly thankful each day for my healing, and
for the opportunity to be out and about.
Please pray for good friend Bernie, facing surgery
soon, and good friends Pat, Tanya, Jay, Jeff, and Fran, Todd, and Ethan, still battling cancer, and Dennis, battling daily
pain from severe neck problems.
Thanks again for caring and praying.
In Christ Love,
Jack

Just a brief update on what's going on. First of all, healthwise, I continue to get better,
praise the Lord. I feel that my strength is better all the time, and my plumbing is also more predictable. I feel very blessed,
and thank the Lord for feeling so well, and for giving me a new lease on life. I am truly grateful for each day and each moment.
The boys are back in school. Joel is starting his junior year, and Jordan is now in Jr. High.
Josiah is in Winona Lake, In for awhile, and then back to Akron, Oh. Pati had her garage sale last week, and we now have an
organized walk thru garage.
We had our annual church picnic last night, and 5 people got baptized. It was a really nice
evening, and God held off the rain until after we were done.
Good friend Pat is having a really tough time right now, and I would appreciate your prayers for her.
Also for good friend Fran, also continuing to battle cancer. Both ladies are really neat sisters in Christ, and their
cancer battles seem to ongoing and very difficult.
I am praying that the Great Physician will grant them healing. Certainly He is more than able.
Thanks again for caring and praying.
Love in Jesus,
Jack

Hello. Well, a number of things have happened
since the last update.
On August 5, we had the opportunity to attend
the annual Teeple family reunion over at Stanton Lake in Indiana. It was nice to see people I hadn't seen for quite awhile,
but we were missing my cousin Mike, who is presently battling a brain tumor. Your prayers are appreciated for him.
On Monday, August 8, a wonderful thing happened.
Our friends Terry and Sue committed their lives to Jesus. Terry is the man I met at Cleveland Clinic at the time of my second
surgery, and he is the friend who has been bravely fighting cancer for quite some time. Anyway, shortly after Terry and Sue's
commitment to Christ, Terry began to fail healthwise quite rapidly, and early Sunday morning the l3th he passed away. I had
the opportunity to share at his memorial service yesterday. Praise the Lord for His amazing grace and mercy, and bringing
Terry and Sue to Himself.
We were able to spend a little time at our good
friends' cottage up at Wall Lake last week. The lake is very nice, and extremely clear and clean. All it lacks is spearable
rough fish. The bass and bluegill are pretty plentiful, and Joel caught 8 bass one day. He has become quite the fisherman,
and quite the musician as well, now playing piano and bass guitar, along with his acoustic and electric guitar. He must get
his musical talent from his mom. I used to play banjo a little bit, and I did get a lot of requests--requests for me to stop
playing--so I did.
Josiah is now in Akron, settling in to his new
duties there.
Jordan and Joel go back to school in less than two weeks. Pati continues
to keep us all going in the right direction.
Do please pray for Sue Coombs, widow of Terry,
and also for Mrs. Stairhime, who has a recurrence of brain cancer. Pat, Fran, Carolyn, Todd, Andy and Jeff continue to wage
courage battles with cancer as well. Thanks again for caring and praying.
Love, Jack
...and some riches in Christ and some new ones to add to the list...
All my sins are forgiven.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
God is able to save me completely.
God is able to deliver me
God is able to make all grace abound
God is able to help the tempted
God is able to do immeasurably more than I can
ask or imagine.
God is able to deliver me safely to His eternal
kingdom.
And all these riches are yours in Jesus.
Praise God from Whom all blessings flow. Keep looking
up.

Hello. We just returned from Cleveland Clinic on Thursday night. Everything went pretty well. My surgeon
met with us, and checked me out, saying that things seem okay at the
present time. I had blood work done, and I will have testing every 3 months, and a colonoscopy each year.
So...I'm relieved to not have another test until November.
We had a nice trip to Cleveland, and a nice time with relatives in Ashtabula. We celebrated
Jordan's l3th birthday, and his cousin Katie's 20th birthday, and saw Josiah off to Akron, OH.
It is good to be home, and hopefully off to the Teeple reunion for awhile tomorrow. It's also nice to be back to check
up on a number of friends who are going through tough times. God is good in the midst of it all, and I praise Him for His
amazing grace. Thanks for praying and for caring.
Love, Jack

Wow, time does indeed go by way too fast. Whenever
I do an update, I think that now I'll do a much better job of doing
more frequent updates, and before I know it, another week or more has
passed again.Well, anyway, here are a few updates of what is going on...
*Josiah is home! We picked him up on Tuesday
morning in Indy. It's really nice to have him home. He will be
with us for a little over another week, and then it's off to Akron where he will be helping with the 412 Commission there and doing Moody Bible Institute studies. His time in Maui was very good for him, and I think he has really grown in the Lord.
*Joel is also home from NYC, and back to his
guitar, piano, and mowing his lawns. His trip to NYC was a good one,
learning to share his faith on the street, and minister to others. He also got to fish at a pond in PA, where he caught a 23 inch, 6 lb bass, so he was excited about that also.
*Jordan's fractured thumb is healing, and his
CT Scan came back normal. So,healthwise he seems to be doing better, thankfully. He is enjoying his summer, and is a good help around home here in the Ville.
*Pati has been busy with ebay, and her many other duties.
Her continual hard work is appreciated, including added duties in view
of my surgeries and recoveries.
*Healthwise, I'm feeling pretty good, and I'm
very thankful to be active and basically putting in full days pretty
frequently. I just need to be careful not to overdo it. I get to do a wedding for a young couple in our church tomorrow, and then speak twice on Sunday morning at Crossview Church, and at Love Church in Ft.Wayne on Sunday night.
I am just extremely grateful to the Lord for
each day that He gives me, and for each day and each moment that I
feel good.
All praise to God from Whom all blessings flow. Thanks again to all who care and pray.
Love, Jack
"As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for
the living God." (Psalm 42:l-2)
Tuesday, July 11, 2006 Hello. Just a little update in a
number of areas.....
Thankfully I seem to be getting a little stronger all the
time. I am very thankful for each day I am given. Josiah should be returning in about a week from Maui.
We are anxious to see him again. Joel is in NYC right now on his mission. Sounds like he and the
team are doing well. Jordan got his thumb checked out today and got permission to remove his "cast".
However, he is going in tomorrow morning to have a CAT scan done of his lower colon/side area. He has had side
aches again and has run a low grade fever. It has been an off and on problem for a long
time. We want to make sure it has nothing to do with his appendix or a hernia. Pati is once
again doing a great job juggling many things to keep everything moving around here. Jordan and I just
returned from a day at my parent's. While there I got to visit good friend Pat Hurd, who is having a tough time with cancer
and her chemo treatments. Please pray for her, that she will be able to do well with the treatments, and that the chemo destroys
any cancer. Please pray also for her family at this difficult time. The second printing of Rich
in Christ has been ordered, and hopefully it will be here in about l0 days. The end of an
era, apparently...While visiting my parents, I walked down to a pond near where they live. Only about 8 feet from the shore
was a gigantic snapping turtle. He was facing away from me, and his shell was sticking out of the water. Now, in the old days
I would have kicked off my shoes and waded out into the water when his head was down. I would have have reached down and found
his tail and wrestled him out of the water and carried him to the shore. Why? Because he was there. Today, however, although
I did consider grabbing him, instead I just watched him for awhile and then walked away. I realized at that time that apparently
I am truly getting older. Pretty scary...I guess after the cancer, I'm more content just to enjoy the sunshine and being alive,
instead of being compelled to do all the stuff that I would have done in the past. Yeah, probably, but tomorrow,
given the same opportunity, I may still be wading in after that turtle. The end of an era? Maybe, maybe not...
Praise the Lord for His promises to His children. Indeed, our citizenship is in Heaven, and from there we eagerly look for
the return of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. (Philippians 3:20).
"I
tell you the truth, whoever hears my words and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has
crossed over from death to life."
John
5:24
July 2, 2006 Hello! A lot is happening,
so...a number of things to talk about...
*Thursday, June 22, I was asked to share at the Brotherhood Mutual chapel, and we had a real good time. The people were
very gracious, and it was fun to share about keeping our focus, based on Psalm 73, and then talking a bit about our riches
in Christ. I felt real encouraged to see people excited about their position in Christ.
*Friday-Saturday, June 23-24, the Relay for Life was held in Hicksville. It was extremely humbling to be around many fellow
cancer survivors, most of whom had been through a lot more than I had. On Saturday it was a good opportunity to share my story
for about l0 minutes, and tell about God's grace and faithfulness in the midst of tough times, and to share about assurance
of eternal life in Christ. *On Sundays, I'm starting to go through the riches in Christ, illustrating
and amplifying each one. It is amazing to me how truly rich the riches are. Next week will be the third sermon on "All my
sins are forgiven."
Today I had a nice surprise to see good friends
Sue and Terry Coombs at church at the first service. Terry is fighting a tough battle with cancer, and he was at Cleveland
Clinic when I was there. Some updates on others... *How exciting! The Murbachs have returned
from Russia with their 3 adopted children. What a great new chapter in their lives. *Son Jordan's fractured thumb is healing
nicely, thank the Lord. *Son Joel is on his way to NYC this week on his Sr. Hi. missions trip. *Son Josiah preached
his final Maui sermon today, and will be heading home in a couple of weeks. *My wife Pati continues to keep us all afloat
in the midst of all the busyness. I'm thankful for all her hard work. Some cancer prayer and share
updates... *Fran Mortenson is beginning a new series of chemo. *Todd Moser is beginning chemo. *Pat Hurd is beginning
a new series of chemo. *Please pray, too, for Carolyn Moore, Jeff Sauder, Jay and Tanya Bigham, for continued improvement
and strength. *Sympathy and prayers on behalf of the Gerbers family, who lost their 23 year old son after a brief illness
last week. So many hurting folks. Thankfully we have a caring God, who loves us so much that He
sent His Son Jesus, to provide forgiveness for our sins by His death on the cross. All praise to Him, and yes, I do thank
God each day for being able to walk around, and for continued improvement in my health. I feel very blessed. And thanks to
everyone who continues to pray.
I appreciate you very much.
Love, Jack
June 21, 2006 Hello from beautiful Hicksville, the Gateway to the Midwest. Sorry it's
been awhile since there's been an update. I'll try to do a bit better. It was nice to be able
to preach at church last Sunday. My good friend Dave and a brother and sister from Bangadesh were also with us for the weekend,
and we had a really nice time.
Our nephew Willy was also visiting this week for a few days before he starts is residency
program on Friday at Case Western Reserve.
Tomorrow I am supposed to speak at a chapel service in Ft.Wayne, and then we have the Relay
for Life here in the Ville on Friday-Saturday, and I've been asked to share my story briefly there as well, so that should
be a good opportunity. Jordan returned from his missions trip with a broken thumb, so he's in
a bit of pain at the present time. Joel is going to a Christian concert in Winona Lake, IN. this weekend, and then is off
to Miracle Camp in Michigan.
Josiah preached his second sermon last Sunday, and will be joined by the young adult missions
team from our church this Thursday. Pati is gearing up for her garage sale this week, so there's a lot going on.
I seem to be getting a bit more strength all the time, so I am thankful for that. The plumbing
unpredictability is getting better, but is still a bit iffy at times. It is truly a small price to pay, however, in view of
the overall picture. We are supposed to return to Cleveland Clinic on August 3 for my checkup, so I'm praying that will be
rather uneventful.
A number of good friends are still battling their cancer situations, so please remember them
in prayer. So many hurting people in the world, more than we could ever imagine. I look forward to Jesus' return, and the
day when the curse on this old world is finally lifted. Come quickly, Lord Jesus!
Thanks again for your prayers for me and my family. We feel extremely blessed to
have so many caring friends. God bless you. Jack "The creation waits in eager expectation for
the sons of God to be revealed.
For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will
of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into
the glorious freedom of the children of God." Romans 8:19-21,
Monday, June 11, 2006 I thought I would do
a little update tonite. Well, I feel pretty good at the present time. A very kind neighbor and friend who knew of my
cancer situation stopped by a couple of weeks ago, and invited me to come fish at his pond and catch some of his bluegills.
So today Jordan and I took him up on his offer and caught some bluegills and after fileting them and preparing them, we had
some delicious fish. Not only was the fishing good therapy, but fresh fish like that is high on the list of what is good for
me to eat. So praise the Lord for good neighbors, and praise Him for all good gifts from above.
Also, my chasm left over from the reversal surgery is almost healed up completely. My main challenges now are consistency
with my plumbing, and endurance, which are both getting better, thankfully. More than ever, I truly see each day as God's
gift, to be thankful for and utilized.
*Josiah is doing well on Maui, learning many aspects of ministry and servanthood, preaching again his coming Sunday,
and doing yard work to earn money for this coming fall. *Jordan leaves for his Cincinnati missions trip this Wednesday,
so he's excited about that. *Joel is preparing for his NYC missions trip coming up in a few weeks, so that should also
be a great opportunity to grow and share. *Pati is preparing for a garage sale next week. Hopefully it will be a smashing
success, and EVERYTHING will sell.
Anyway, lifestyle and eating habits will no doubt be different from here on out. I have no intention of ever spending
another extended stay at the Cleveland Clinic by the grace of God. PRAYER NEED
**Husband and wife Jay and Tanya are both really battling their cancer situations right now, and really need prayer.
All around us, people are having monumental struggles, and really, everyones fighting battles of some sort. May those of us
who know Jesus be willing to reach out and make a difference.
Oh, and speaking of that, good friends Bob and Dawn are leaving this weekend for Russia to adopt 3
siblings. How incredibly cool and totally unselfish is that....
Thanks again for praying and caring.
Love, Jack
How great is our God!!
Tuesday, June 5, 2006 Hello. Just a note to update you on what's going
on. Thankfully, the crater left over from the removal of my ileostomy is almost completely healed
over. I have very little discomfort now from the greatly reduced hole in my gut. Just five weeks out from surgery, that is
a real blessing. My only real challenges at this point are the ongoing inconsistent plumbing habits, and my limited endurance.
I am learning what I can and cannot do at this point in time, and trying to adjust accordingly. I just feel extremely
blessed to be doing as well as I am.
My wife's parents are with us for
a few days, and we are having a nice time with them. Pati's dad is a handyman, so he's getting some things done around here
to help us out. Josiah is doing well in Maui, and looking forward to the young adult missions
trip heading that way in a couple of weeks. Joel and Jordan are also preparing for their upcoming missions trips.
By the way, if anyone is interested in an adorable
kitten, we have 3 available. They really are cute, and are in need of good homes, otherwise we will sell them to the local
Chinese restaurant, as we have done in the past...only kidding...
Anyway, God is truly
good, and I am constantly humbled by His grace. Please continue to pray for Jeff, Andy, Todd,
Pat, Carolyn, Jay, Tanya, Ethan, and others who are fighting tough health battles. Keep looking up. Jesus is coming soon. Love,
Jack (and thanks again for praying) "God
is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:l)
Thursday, May 25, 2006 Well, just a brief note from the pastor\patient. Wow, 4 weeks ago today we were on our way
to the Cleveland Clinic to get ready for my reversal surgery. Time really does fly. It's nice to be able to say that in less
than 4 weeks I have made really good progress, praise the Lord. Thankfully, everything seems to be getting more regular, plumbing-wise,
and my wound is healing nicely. I feel that I am getting a bit stronger each day. The last couple
of days I've been able to go in to work at the church for awhile, and it's really felt great to be back. The leadership at
Crossview Church has been extremely patient in the midst of my cancer situation and following, and I am extremely appreciative.
And every day I thank the Lord for my health and His miraculous gift of healing. I realize that I have been very blessed.
Other notes... *Josiah is adjusting to island life, and preaches his first sermon this coming Sunday. *I heard
from a missionary in the Philippines who used Rich in Christ last month for the theme at their Conference, teaching the riches
to the folks who attended. It went well, and 5 people accepted he Lord, and it sounds like it was a very encouraging time.
Praise God for always honoring His Word. *Please pray for friend Terry, whose cancer situation is very tough right now. *Again,
thanks for caring and praying. All glory the King of all kings! Keep looking up. He's coming back soon.
Love, Jack
Saturday, May 20, 2006 Hello from the
pastor/patient. Well, just a little update. It was 3 weeks ago yesterday that I had my reversal surgery, and I thank the Lord
for my good ongoing recovery. The hole in my gut is now about 1\3 the size it was after surgery, and the last few days I have
felt much more regular with my plumbing. Lord willing, I plan on going to church tomorrow. Each
day I feel extremely thankful to the Lord for my health and the removal of the cancer. I am getting very eager to get back
more fully in ministry. In the meantime I enjoy my phone ministry, checking up on various folks and hopefully encouraging
them and praying with them.
Hopefully soon I will be able to reschedule
my Rich in Christ seminars. This website will be periodically updated with Rich in Christ developments, even as my cancer
situation continues to diminish. I do thank all those who have prayed for me and been such a blessing to me and my family
during the last several months. It has really been a tremendous learning experience, and again, I feel extremely thankful
and blessed. Other notes... *Josiah is safely on Maui, praise the Lord, and will be beginning his internship with
Pastor Roland. *Please pray for good friend Doris, who fell and broke her hip this past week. *A number of good friends
are still battling cancer and need ongoing prayer. *Joel and Jordan have about a week left of school, and both are looking
forward to summer missions trips, and some warm summer days. *Pati has been tremendous in the midst of the cancer
situation, and I am extremely grateful to her.
*Special thanks to my parents, who took Josiah down to Indy
VERY early on Friday morning for his flight. Again, thanks for checking in at the website, and
all praise to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is my reason for living. It is truly all about HIM.
Friday, May l2, 2006 Well, it is a rather cold,
dreary, rainy day here in the ville, so it's time for a little update from thepastor\patient.
As I read Scripture this morning, I was reminded
of the need to have more of an ongoing attitude of thankfulness. In Psalm 34:l, David wrote, "I will extol the Lord at all
times. His praise will always be on my lips."
I realized I can't get discouraged by my slow
recovery time, but instead I need to focus on all the blessings. Each day I get a little stronger. The crater in my gut is
getting smaller, even to the point where I don't think I could be used as a putting green any longer. And I need to
be thankful for my newly revised irregular plumbing, just being grateful that it does work, and I'm home to adjust
to it, instead of being at the clinic. And I could go on and on ( and I do, but that's not what I'm referring to here), but
the bottom line (and gain, no pun intended) is that in Christ, we are continually and eternally blessed, and have much to
be thankful for.
May God continue to be praised and glorified
in our lives until we are truly home. Thanks to those of you who continue to pray for us and encourage us in so many ways.
God bless you.
Love, Jack
Tuesday May 9 2006,
What a beautiful spring we are having in Hicksville, OH. The weather has been perfect and flowers
are in bloom. Jack has enjoyed reading outside in the sunshine.
Jack's parents came to visit for a few hours today. We were able to sit on the porch and
watch the wirlygigs fly off the trees. Looked like a snow storm. When the boys came home we enjoyed some homemade
ice cream.
We were also blessed today with another great meal from a very kind and supportive couple from
our church. We also appreciated so much friends Jerry & Bob's ministry of helps to finish up a project
out of our fix-it abilities.
Jack was struggling more today with discomfort. He gets relief by laying on his side in bed.
With it not being 2 weeks from surgery he realizes that this is all part of the healing process and it will take time to adjust
to his new "piping" as well as continued healing of his wound.
We are looking forward to Josiah's return for a few days before starting his internship.
If you think of him, please pray for his safety for the drive back from Florida. He will be traveling alone and
(being his mom) I am concerned about him staying awake while driving on the long trip.
Please continue to pray for Jack that the Lord would continue healing his body and give him comfort
and strength. I'm sure our friend Terry would appreciate the same prayer as well.
We all have so very much to be thankful for. Too many days we allow all the negative things in this world
to drag us down and lose our focus on what REALLY matters. And that is our relationship with Christ. When one
leaves this world, it is the only thing that matters. May we who know Christ, keep our focus on the many
daily blessing he gives us. We are indeed rich in Christ! Not by what we own or aquire but but his grace in our
lives.
In Christ,
Pati
1Therefore, since we
are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles,
and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus,
the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down
at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men,
so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Saturday May 7, 2006
Well, it has been a busy but good week. Jack has spent a good part of the week in a recliner trying to get
relief from the pain of an open wound and sleeping. He does do his walking every day to gain strength and keep
moving. He does not go very far from the house as his "functions" are working a bit too well. It
will be a while before things will be back to "normal" but he is so very thankful for this being a final step to recovery.
Since the weather was nice this week he did spend time outside reading and getting his vitamin D from the
sun as well.
Considering surgery was just over a week ago Jack is doing well. He just keeps reminding himself
it's so nice to be home and it will just take time to recover and for his wound to heal. If he bumps into something
or strains for any reason it is not very pleasant!
We have been blessed this week with meals from some gals in the church. They have all been wonderful
and very good!
Please continue to pray for Terry and Sue. He was able to get home this week but is having
a tough time with some of the major adjustments of an illisotomy and just being weak from surgery. We were able to spend
some quality time with Sue this week and tried to encourage and help share what was helpful for Jack and maybe would
help Terry as well. They have been one of the many blessing that have come from Jack's cancer.
We are looking forward to Josiah's return home on the 16th for a few days before he
heads to his internship for the next 2 months. Time sure does fly!
Thanks for all the continued prayers, cards, and meals! We have been truly blessed.
In Christ love,
Pati
Monday May 1, 2006
Well it has been a fast weekend! I got
a call Sunday morning that Jack was going to be dismissed. He had the "variety of functions" that were needed for dismissal.
After showing me how to change his wound (big enough to pop a ping pong ball into) we were gathering up our things to head
home.
We decided it would be more restful to be home
rather than to stay in the hotel. We are just trusting in the Lord to keep things moving along. If he would have
problems we will deal with them, but we are praying he will continue to progress.
The trip home was helped greatly by some "good
drugs". They took away the pain and he slept most of the way home. It is amazing how many bumps in the road there
is when you need a smooth ride! He is so very glad to be home so quickly.
He woke this morning feeling like he had been shot
in the gut. He is very grateful for medication that helps take the edge off the pain. When he was taking the bandage
off to shower he was rather queasy and hoping he would not pass out in the shower after getting a good look at the wound.
He is not cut out for a medical occupation! LOL All went well and I got him patched up again until tomorrow. The
wound has already started closing up some since surgery. It is amazing how complex the Lord has made us and
the ability we have to heal!
He has spent most of the day in the recliner
resting and reading while I try to get things put away from being gone.
Thanks again for the continued prayers and encouragement!
We are so very grateful this weekend has been a major positive answer to prayers.
Please continue to pray for Pat, Terry, Lynn, Andy
and others that are continuing to fight the battle with cancer.
In Christ love,
Pati
As Christians, sometimes we wonder why the Lord allows things to happen
to people. We will probably never understand fully why some things are allowed but the following verses share some interesting
insites into one mans life in the New Testament....
As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth.
His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
"Neither this man nor his
parents sinned," said Jesus,
"but this happend so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Having said this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with
the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes. "Go," he told him, "wash in
the pool of Soloam". So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.
John 9:1-8
Saturday April 30, 2006
My sister Tina spent last nite sitting with Jack. Although he was awake a good part of
the night it was nice to know she was there if he needed anything.
Jack had a good low key day today. He did lots of walking and had 3 soft diet meals. His
pain level has been kept under control.
Jack is very thankful for all the prayers and requests continued prayer for function to kick
in. I saw his wound today and was surprised by the large size and depth. It is just amazing the
bodies ability to heal.
Our nephew Willie was here today to visit as well. He will be moving to the area soon and
was house hunting. I was able to get a break and go with him to check out some of the possibilities.
I enjoyed seeing some beautiful old neighborhoods in the area.
Kathy has been such a blessing to have her with us to do what ever we might need.
Thanks for your continued prayers and encouragement!
Pati
Friday Nite April 28, 2006
Jack continues to be doing well. He has slept most of the day. They moved him to a room early
this evening. He requested an ocean view room but they were all ready occupied. Figures. As would
be expected he is dizzy when sitting or trying to stand but they did get him up once today. Tomorrow I'm sure he will
be challenged to be up and moving more.
He is sticking to very soft diet this evening and will move to more soft solids starting tomorrow.
Pray that all of his "functions" will start to function in the proper way.
I had a nice visit with Terry and Sue from Leo. It is cool how the Lord worked the
timing that we would be 10 rooms away from each other! Please continue to pray for them as they have
been through very much in the last several months. I told them we have asked for prayer for them. I look forward
to spending more quality time together while we are here.
Jordan is on a weekend retreat with Youth for Christ. It is a wonderful ministry under the direction
of Jack Fetters. He has been teaching the kids from Jack's book and they have memorized the first 27 alphabetical riches.
What a great encouragement to my Jack at this time!
Thanks again for the prayers and encouragement.
The Teeple Family
Friday 2:15 pm -
I just got a call as we were ready to head back, that Jack is in a pre surgery room until
they can find a bed in a regular room for him. His voice sounds weak but he says he is doing ok.
Friday April 28, 2006 - 2:00 pm
Well it was an early morning but a good one. After a very short nite we were up at 5:00
am getting ready to head to the hospital.
Surgery started at 8:00 am and went very well. He was in surgery about 1-1/4 hours. There
were no complications or spasms, PTL, after about 2 hours Dave and I were able to go back and see him for about 10 minutes.
He is alert and asking for a cd player and Christian music. He said he has been praying and thanking God for His
mercy and grace in his life. He did start to laugh and realized that is not a good thing to be doing yet.
They don't have a room available for him so we are not sure how long he will be staying in
the recovery room. The helper said he's never seen any one in there for more that 2 days. Surely he was kidding
but I think not. They will be calling it "bed pan alley" if he is there that long. LOL
Kathy and I came back to the room to update you all before heading back to the hospital.
Please continue to pray that everything keeps working and that the progress so far continues.
I will update you this evening and let you know how things are going. (no pun intended!).
Seriously thanks again for your love and prayers for our family.
Pati & Jack
Therefore we do not lose heart.
Though outwardly we are wasting away,
yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an
eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.
For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Thursday April 27th,
Hello everyone, it is me, Pati. I am back in the update mode as Jack is getting ready
for surgery in the morning.
We made is safely to Cleveland and had dinner with our good friend Dave Hollander. He
& Jack were able to visit Terry from Leo and I was able to spend a few minutes on the phone with his wife.
Surgery will be at 7:15 in the morning. We will need to be there at 6:15 am. Jack will
be Dr. Strongs first surgery of the day. We would appreciate prayers for a good nites sleep for the Doctor and nurses
and rest for Jack & I.
I will try to get an update to you as soon as I can tomorrow.
Thanks for all the prayers, kind words and acts of kindness as well as financial help during
this time of our life. May the Lord richly bless each of you.
In Christ,
Pati
Wednesday, April 26, 2006 Greetings from the Pastor\Patient. Well... the time has come. Tomorrow
we leave for the Cleveland Clinic, and the surgery will be on Friday. Prayerfully, everything will go well,
and soon I will be "good to go." We will keep you posted, and I truly appreciate the prayers. Please pray that I will be strong
and a good witness, and that God's will will be done.
Also, I hope to share Christ with a man named Terry tomorrow evening. He has serious cancer
issues, and had surgery at the clinic last week. He and his wife Sue are from Leo, IN. We have talked several times
and prayed together.
Well, anyway, praise the God of all grace. Our lives are in His hands, and every day is
a gift from Him.
Much love to you all.
Jack

Sunday, April 23, 2006 Hello everyone!
This was a nice weekend. Joel did a great
job in South Pacific, as did the rest of the cast. My family came out for the Friday show, as did former church secretary
Betty Henry and current church secretary Kathy Cox, and a number of other good friends and neighbors.
Church was also a treat today, as we enjoyed a very nice service as well as our groundbreaking on the new land. God provided
a beautiful day and a good spirit of unity. Former pastor at Grabill, Scott Wagonner, shared the morning message, and did
a fine job challenging us from the Word. We had a number of special guests at the groundbreaking, including Pastor Bill Lepley
from our little church plant down the street. Bill is a totally classy guy and a great friend, and it was very nice to have
him and his wife with us. Please pray for a man named Terry, and his wife Sue. Terry is at Cleveland
Clinic right now, having just undergone serious cancer surgery. The outlook is not very good. Please pray that both Terry
and his wife will come to know Jesus, and also for his physical needs. Also fighting tough battles tonight: Jeff Sauder and
Ethan Teeple. They can definitely use our prayers as they are dealing with cancer. Fellow cancer survivors Jay and Tanya,
and Pat and Carolyn are doing better, praise the Lord, but could also use ongoing prayer, along with FEC missionary Andy in
England, fighting the same fight.
Well, 5 days til my surgery, and I
do appreciate your prayers as well, that I would be strong in the Lord, and a good testimony to those I have contact with,
and yes, that there are no complications with this surgery.
Thanks and God bless you. Our God is an awesome
God! Love, Jack

Friday, April 21, 2006
Hello. Yesterday was a good day at Cleveland Clinic. The testing wasn't fun, but thankfully the
results were encouraging. Everything is on track for next Friday.
We will go to Cleveland next Thursday. We will find out the time of surgery
on Thursday after 3:00pm. Prayerfully there will be no complications, and my time there will be relatively short.
This week I got to meet a Palestinian from Israel, and we had a nice chat. After some friendly conversation, he received
a couple of tracts and was quite gracious. His name is Fayez, and I pray he will understand the Gospel. Another guy who looked
like he could play for the Cleveland Browns also took a tract. He works at the hotel where we stayed. There are
a lot of opportunities to share with people at the Clinic. The second man's name is James, and he could also use our
prayers.
Please pray also for little Ethan Teeple (no relation). He is having a very rough time with
cancer. Thanks.
Good friend Dave Hollander spent the night with us last night, and he and I went to the South Pacific
dress rehearsal. It was quite well done, and tonight is the first show. Should be fun. Hopefully the bat that showed up last
night inside the Huber won't be there tonight.
I do appreciate your ongoing prayers and support!
God bless you, and thanks again.
In Christ Love,
Jack

Greetings!
Just a little update tonight. We had a nice Resurrection
Sunday Service yesterday, and of course a full house. It was a good opportunity to share the Gospel, and hopefully challenge
the folks with the Word. Time is short. I've been reading about the situation in the Middle East, and prophecy is really coming
to pass. Fascinating days!
Today was a good day off. Pati and I got a lot of work done around here. Our 99 year old neighbor called,
and Pati had a good talk with her.
Well, this is kind of a big week for us. Wednesday we return to Cleveland Clinic for pre-op testing
prior to the surgery on the 28th. The actual testing starts early on Thursday morning this week. Also this week,Jordan has
a speech on Wednesday at school, and Joel will be Captain Brackett in South Pacific on the weekend. Should be fun!
Josiah is doing well in Florida, and gearing up for finishing out his 412 Comission.
We feel very blessed to have our sons following the Lord. God has been very gracious, and we
are very thankful.
Speaking of family, we had a great time with my family from Winona Lake on Sunday, also. We had a
nice lunch together, and then a good time at our house for the afternoon. And, in Sebring Josiah was enjoying being taken
out to lunch with Grandpa and Grandma Caylor, while also enjoying a visit from good friend, Josh Sauder from Grabill, In.
Well, enough for now. Thanks again for all the kindness and prayers. God is good. May He be glorified
with each
day that he graciously gives us. Love, Jack
Thursday, April l3, 2006 Hello from the patient\pastor. Well, it is truly a beautiful day, and I am extremely thankful
to be here at home to enjoy it. Tonight we celebrate Communion at church, so I am looking forward to that. It is always a
special time to focus on the death of Christ, and the ultimate price God paid for our salvation.
Sunday will also be a special day to celebrate the resurrection of Christ. One of these days
we will actually be HOME with Jesus, and that will truly be a very special celebration! Well,
next Wed. we will be heading to Cleveland once again, this time to prepare for the upcoming reversal surgery. I will go through
a bunch of tests on Thursday to make sure that everything will be ready for the following Friday, April 28. My time with the
iliostomy has really gone by quite fast, and I know it is really a blessing to have the reversal, rather than having the iliostomy
permanently. Hopefully the procedure will go well, with no complications, and shortly after its completion, I will be "good
to go."
I do appreciate your prayers for the surgery and recovery. Have a wonderful Resurrection Weekend,
and do keep in mind what it's all about. It is truly all about Jesus!
Thanks again, and God bless you all. Love, Jack "That if you
will confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will
be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and
are saved." (Romans l0: 9-l0)
Friday, April 7, 2006 Hello once again.
Well, we had a very nice trip to Pennsylvania. It was great to see a lot of Pati's family,
and it was a wonderful opportunity to share the Gospel at Uncle Duane's funeral. It snowed on the day of the funeral, and
was sunny and nice as we left on Thursday.
I just felt very thankful to be at the farm for those couple of days, and was again reminded
of God's grace and kindness in allowing me to be there.
On the way home my wife and I stopped in Archbold, Ohio for the Crisis Pregnancy Center banquet.
I had been on the first board for the CPC 20 years ago, and so they were honoring that first group of board members on this
night.
It was a really nice time, and we saw a number of old friends. I guess at my age, almost all
of my friends are old. Anyway, Jill Briscoe was the main speaker, and we got to sit with her for awhile and talk to her. She
is a very sweet and godly lady, who is very sold out for the Lord. It was an honor to get to meet her.
Today was a good day as well. I was able to put in a pretty good work day, making some phone
calls, a hospital call, and a visit to the Bigham's. These are good friends who are fighting a tough battle with cancer--both
husband and wife. It was also a productive day of work at the church, and it was a real treat also running into some Amish
friends at Wal-Mart who had been praying for me. The Amish lady's first husband had died several years ago of cancer at a
young age, and we have had a rich friendship for a number of years. I am daily overwhelmed at
the grace and goodness of God. He has been teaching me much in the School of Cancer Recovery. And by the way, three weeks
from right now, I should be in recovery from my reversal surgery. I greatly appreciate your continued prayers.
Much love to all of you who are reading this, and God bless you.
Jack "Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ
Jesus." (I Thes. 5:l8)
Monday, April 3, 2006 Hello from the ever increasingly healthy patient. Just a brief note once again. Today my
wife had her colonoscopy, and everything was okay, praise the Lord. We got to see the nurse who had been so kind to
us when I was diagnosed with cancer last December, and found out that she has recently become a Christian, so that was really
exciting. It was good to see her again, and I also got to meet another new Christian out in the waiting room, and we had a
great chat while his wife was also having a colonoscopy. All in all it was a great day of sharing and fellowship, and also
a day of good news regarding Pati's tests. Tomorrow afternoon my wife and I are planning to leave for
Pennsylvania. Pati's uncle Duane passed away early this morning and I have been asked to do the funeral. Duane was a good
friend, and thankfully he knew the Lord. This will be a good opportunity to share the Gospel, and I appreciate your prayers.
Well, only 25 days til the reversal surgery, and by then I do believe I will be ready.
Today I got some good stuff for our little neighbor girl's birthday on Saturday, including a video
of the Donut Man, reminding us all that, yes indeed, life without Jesus is like a donut, there's a hole in the middle of your
heart. Now, that's good theology... Anyway, thanks again for reading, and for praying.
Love, Jack "For by grace are we saved,
through faith,
and that not of ourselves.
It is the gift of God, not of works,
lest anyone should boast." (Eph. 2: 8-9)
Sunday, April 2, 2006
Hi there. I just wanted to share a brief update on this beautiful Sunday night.
It was nice to be able to preach once again this morning at both services, and at our new Crossview
Church. I am still rather humbled to be back at church, and extremely thankful for renewed health.
As I write this, my wife is preparing for her colonoscopy tomorrow, if you know what I mean. If you
have ever had one, you know how much fun it is preparing for it the night before. It is good that she is getting one, however,
and hopefully her results will be a lot better than mine were.
Well, it is now 26 days until my reversal surgery, and I think I'll be ready, Lord willing.
I think I've figured out why the surgeon has a person wait at least 90 days for their reversal surgery. First of all,
it takes that long for everything to pretty well heal up from the first time.
Secondly, I think the surgeon knows that it takes at least 3 months for the patient to forget
how bad it was the first time, so that he will be willing to go back for another surgery. Give me another 3 and a half weeks,
and I'll be willing to venture back. Not too long ago I was thinking, "Gee, maybe this iliostomy isn't really that bad, compared
to another surgery." So anyway, time heals, in more ways than one...T
Thanks again for all the prayers and encouragement. Please pray also for my friends the Bighams. Both husband and wife
are currently battling cancer. God's richest blessings to you all.
Love, Jack
P.S. It was great to see good friend Sam last night, along with many friends from Bridgewater CC. Christian friends are
indeed an eternal blessing.
Tuesday, March 28, 2006 Well, just a brief update from the patient\pastor. It has been a nice past several days, and
kind of out of the ordinary. We went to Winona Lake to a reception for my nephew Tim and his new wife, Chie on Saturday
afternoon. It was wonderful to see family and friends, who have been such an incredible ecouragement to me.
On Sunday we went to church at Grace Village with my parents, and I was able to thank a number
of dear folks who have been praying for me. It was a great weekend with family and friends, and of ministry and encouragement.
I also got wonderful news that the daughter of one of my old college buddies had just gone l5 days without a siezure after
suffering from siezures on a regular basis for over 22 years! Please pray for Bethany, that she will continue to be free from
physical ailments that have plagued her for so long. For the last couple of days, we got away to Middlebury,
In, since the boys are off school this week for spring break. We were able to stayed at an Inn, where Jordan swam, Pati rested and
scoped out the antique malls to learn more about her trade, Joel memorized lines for South Pacific, and I read and rested,
and proved that old men with iliostomies can still beat young healthy men at ping pong.
And at church this week, in my absence, Grabill Church became Crossview Church, and voted
to begin work on our new land outside town. Boy, the things that happen when a guy gets away for a few days...Actually, that's
exciting stuff.
It will be fun to see what God has in mind for the days ahead. And then tonight,
we got to go to church for a Christ in the Passover presentation. The lady who shared was a former atheist, now a converted
Jew, who was from Ukraine, and now lives in Brooklyn, NY. It was a nice night, and I was thankful to be there...
And finally, only 31 days til reversal surgery. I do appreciate your prayers as that takes place
on April 28. Thanks again, and I truly thank the Lord for so many friends who care and pray.
God bless you.
Love, Jack "May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought
back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will,
and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen." Hebrews
l3:20-21
Thursday, March 23, 2006 Just a brief update from the patient\pastor. Yes, it is really nice
to be able to be doing some ministry again. It was fun to be able to preach at both services again last Sunday, and
yesterday I went in to the office for awhile. Each day I am reminded how blessed I am and how thankful I should be to be doing
as well as I am.
Today as I had a nice long drink of water, I remembered at the clinic when I was on morphine,
and my mouth was so incredibly dry and I was terribly thirsty, how I longed to be able to drink water again. They gave me
ice chips for awhile, and then I wasn't even allowed to have those. I thought to myself that when I could actually drink water
again, I would give great thanks to God. Well, I'm sure that I don't always remember to do that, but today I certainly did,
and I was reminded how often I take things for granted. I am trying to give thanks for more of the "little things" that we
have, but that many people around the world don't have the privilege of enjoying. So whether it's a drink of water, or having
the health to walk out the door or look up at the blue sky, I see the need to praise God for His gracious blessings.
For those who know Jesus Christ as Savior, we are truly rich in Christ for all eternity, but
we of all people on earth should be full of thankfulness to our great God and King ...
Well, by the way, 4 weeks from today we'll be back in Cleveland for pre-surgery preparations,
and then on Friday, April 28, it will be time for the reverse surgery. This has been a real learning experience, and
again I thank you for your prayers and many acts of kindness to our family.
Jesus is coming back soon, and then we will be home. The best is yet to come.
"Be devoted to prayer, being watchful and thankful..."
the Apostle Paul to the Colossians
Friday, March l7, 2006 Hi again from the patient.
Well, yesterday was quite a day in Cleveland. We had arrived in Cleveland the evening before,
and because of our late arrival at the hotel, it was already full, so we were upgraded (for the same price) to the Intercontinental
Hotel, just down the way from the Clinic. It was quite a nice place, and we enjoyed the stay.
On Thursday morning we met with the stoma nurse, and she assured us that the stoma looks good.
We then met with Dr. Strong, my surgeon. He was able to give us more information about my tumor
and follow up testing to catch any reoccurance early and have it dealt with. He answered our questions, explained the
reversal surgery, and we then made arrangements for the date for that surgery. That date set is Friday, April 28.
The recovery time in the hospital is supposed to be much less than the first time, so I pray that that will be the case,
and that there won't be any complications like last time.
Thanks again for prayers in that regard, and that God will be honored and glorified through
all that takes place. I also met with a dematologist while we were there, and the doctor removed something from
my stomach to make sure it's not cancerous. The irony of the day was that after meeting with my surgeon,
he said I could begin to lift things once again, carefully of course. A few hours later, after my minor skin surgery,
the orders were, "No lifting!" for the next l2 days. Oh well, at least I had "liberty to lift" for a little while.
One of the highlights of the day was getting to meet Dan, a marine who was badly injured last
May in Iraq. The two soldiers closest to him were killed in the roadside bombing, and Dan was hurt the worst of anyone who
survived. Since May, he has had 22 surgeries, and has 3 more to go. We thanked him for his service to our country,
and told him how much we appreciated our military and the great job they are doing. Dan plans to spend the rest of his life
fulfilling whatever plan God has for him. He is married and has two children.
We also met Bev, a sweet lady who had brain cancer 4 years ago, and now has a reoccurance. She
was facing intense radiation, and we assured her of our prayers, and we promised Dan of our prayers as well. Lots of hurting
folks out there... May we make a difference in this hurting world.
"Yet in all these things we are more that conquerors through Him who loved us." (Romans
8:37)
Thanks again.
Love, Jack
Wednesday, March l5, 2006 Greetings from the patient. Well, we leave for Cleveland in just a little while, so I wanted
to get off a brief update. Please pray for opportunities to share with people while we are there, and that we will be bold
in taking advantage of those opportunities. I have some good tracts to take along, and I'm sure that we will have chances
to praise God for the reduction and removal of the cancer. We will also find out when my reversal surgery will take place,
and we will meet with a dermatologist. All in all, this shouldn't be a bad trip, Lord willing. I should have some time
to work on my sermon for Sunday, and I know that the hotel where we will be staying has a lot of witnessing opportunities.
It's a beautiful, sunny day. Nice day for a trip to Cleveland, especially when I don't
have to stay there for long. Thanks again for all the prayers. Jesus is truly Lord, and coming back soon Love
, Jack
Sunday, March l2, 2006 Hi again from the patient. It was fun this weekend to be able to do
some of my ministry duties. I went in to the church yesterday for awhile to get focused on the service today, and then today
I was able to preach the message at each of the two services. It felt good to be back in the pulpit again.
Josiah went to a rodeo with his grandpa and grandma Caylor yesterday down in Florida.
His mission team is getting a few days off after their Israel trip before they start classes again.
This Wednesday Pati and I are off to Cleveland Clinic to meet with my surgeon and
find out when my reversal surgery will be. We will also meet with a dermatologist on Thursday as well.
Today we talked about some of the reasons we go through trials, from
I Peter l:3-9. The great news is, for all believers in Jesus, that all our trials are temporary, and
we have a wonderful eternal future. Praise God for His amazing grace, made available to anyone and everyone who will trust
Jesus Christ as their Savior. In the midst of the storms of life, Jesus is truly our only rock.
"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word,
and believes Him who sent me,
has eternal life; he will not be condemned,
he has crossed over from death to life."
--Jesus (John 5:24)
Thursday, March 9, 2006 Hi there. Well, the patient is a little stronger each day, praise the Lord.
I actually went to Executive Council at church Tuesday, and to Council on Wednesday.
If all goes well, I hope to preach at church this Sunday, for the first time in a long
time, at both services. I am thankful for each day, and that I continue to make progress.
Next week at this time we should be heading back from Cleveland Clinic. At that time we will
find out the date for the reversal surgery, and I will also get checked by a Dermatologist.
We got a call from Josiah, and he is safely back in Sebring, Fl. It was great to hear
his voice again, and have him back in the States safely. It sounds like he had an awesome time in Isreal.
And for all of you who are 50 plus years of age, or have a family history of polyps or colon cancer or other risk factors,
the question of the day is "Have you had your colonoscopy yet?". I pray many will learn from my experience and
be checked for colon/rectal cancer. Caught early as a polyp it can be removed during the colonoscopy and never become
a tumor. It is worth the test. It really is not that bad of a procedure, especially compared to the much
longer road.
That's all for now. My love and gratefulness to you who are reading this, and thanks for your ongoing
prayers. Hope to see some of you at church on Sunday.
In Christ love.
Jack "For you died, and
your life is hidden with Christ in God.
When Christ, who is our life appears,
then you will also appear with Him in glory."
(Colossians
3:3-4)
Sunday, March 5, 2006 Hello everyone, I thought I would catch
you all up on the end of our week.
Friday afternoon I had a nice visit from the rest
of my pastoral staff . We got to cover some business and spend some good time together. Hal and Jonathan have been doing a
good job in my absence, doing a lot of extra things that normally would be my responsibility. I am looking forward to getting
back to work, and especially preaching and visitation, but in the meantime I try to cover what I can from home.
I also had a nice visit Friday from good friend Rita Wilson. As some of you may know, Rita Wilson is the wife of actor
Tom Hanks. However, this is a different Rita Wilson. This one is from our former church in Montpelier, Ohio. It was
wonderful to spend some time with her once again. She's memorizing her riches in Christ, and working to get others to
do the same.
Pati and Jordan and I took a road trip to Winona
Lake on Saturday. It was a beautiful day to get out for a little while. We visited my parents and the rest of my side of the
family, and we had a wonderful time. Joel had to stay behind to practice for praise band for church, and
Josiah is still in Israel. We thank the Lord that our 3 sons are following Him. God is very gracious.
I also had the joy of visiting my uncle and aunt. They both have some pretty tough health issues, but their faith is strong,
and they are a great encouragement and inspiration to me. I also called my good friend Pat, who has been fighting a tough
battle with cancer. She's been enjoying a few good days before her next siege of chemo, and our prayer is that the next
round of treatment is not as harsh.
Today was a beautiful day and we enjoyed fellowship
with our church family and a nice Sunday afternoon nap.
Well, enough for now. How very grateful
I am to God for His healing grace, and to you, my friends for your prayers and friendship. May we all walk close to Jesus
in these last days. Love, Jack
"But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ." (ICor.l5:57)
Wednesday March 1, 2006
Hi there. Another brief update from the patient.
I was able to go to church again on Sunday.
It's really good to be back. I look forward to the day that I can be strong enough to be back in the pulpit.
Monday I had a visit from Bernie, a good friend and fellow pastor. Bernie went with me on the trip to Russia last fall.
It was great to see him again and catch up on what the Lord has been doing in both of our lives. I had
an appointment with our family Dr. on Monday as well. There had been some changes in my stoma and we needed to
make sure they were "normal". Thankfully all turned out well. I do have an irregular shaped skin mole that
we are going to have biopsied when we return to Cleveland on the 16th of March.
Tuesday I got to sit outside in the sunshine
for awhile, and I thanked the Lord for my improved health, then walked around the block rejoicing in my riches in Christ.
Joel has landed a role in the school play - South Pacific. That should be fun. We'll keep you posted.
Thankfully my weight seems to be stabilized at l60 lbs. I am happy to report that the swim fins are no longer necessary in
the shower! Today is the 25th wedding anniversary for my wife and me. Praise the Lord for His
goodness, and congratulations to my wife for her perseverance.
My wife has set up another page on this web sight
with prayer requests and praises for others around us that have needs. If you have any requests or praises to add please
feel free to email us and we will post them for you. I praise God for how prayer can indeed change things!
There are so many hurting folks out there. Truly we can spend much time in prayer, and we need to. Thanks for your prayers
for me as well. And I pray for you also, my dear friends who I know also have your own struggles and battles. Praise the Lord
that in Jesus, we have a wonderful future, and a gracious God who lovingly sees us through all the difficulties of this brief
life.
Love in Jesus,

is but a mist, here for a little while, and then vanishing away." James
Saturday, February 25, 2006 Hello again. Just another brief update from the patient. It's been
a good week, and thankfully each day gets us a little closer to Spring. Joel drove me to church yesterday, and it was nice
to spend a short amount of time with the rest of the staff.
We went to the doctor's yesterday, where they checked my stoma and found it to be okay, despite
some changes which had concerned us. My weight is stabilizing so I thank the Lord for that. We found out my "wrinkle
free face" was from dehydration and not reversed aging! Funny how the wrinkles came back once my out put
gets regulated again! Today we had lunch with my parents and that was very nice. It's always
nice to get caught up on what's been going on back around the Warsaw area. I was glad to get out for awhile.
Please continue to keep Josiah in your prayers. He is in Isreal until March 7th.
He needs to be deciding where the Lord want's him to do his internship when he returns. He has shared he feels called
to be a pastor. We are excited for what the Lord will be doing in his life in the days to come.
So again, thank you for all your encouragement and prayers. Our God is an awesome a gracious God. All praise
to Him. Love, Jack
Wednesday, February 22, 2006 Hi there. Just a little update from the patient once again.
It's been a pretty good week so far. Pati talked with the stoma nurse this week and got some more insite of what is most
important to watch for. We're monitoring the output of my stoma, to make sure I'm not still in overdrive. Right
now it's borderline on being too much in a day. The good news is, my weight has stabilized, and seems to be holding
steady at around 158 lbs.
Yesterday was fun, although I think I over did it, and needed a pain pill before bed last night. I
stopped by the local Christian book store yesterday afternoon to thank brother Steve for his prayers during the cancer situation,
and to see how he's doing. While there, a couple of ladies stopped by and requested to be prayed for and anointed with oil.
So Steve, a fellow pastor, and I had the privilege of ministering to them. It was neat that God provided that opportunity.
All in all, we are well, and we feel very blessed. Josiah is on his way to Israel today, and Pati has been hard at work
on our taxes. It's not one of her favorite things, to say the least, but she faithfully works hard at it to get it done right.
My wife does a great job doing all that she does. She's actually quite amazing. In closing today,
we thank God for His continual grace and mercy and faithfulness. Thanks again for praying.
Love,
Jack
Monday, February 20, 2006 Hello. It's the patient once again. Today was a good day of making
phone calls. There are sure a lot of hurting folks out there. My aunt Mary Ann recently fell
and broke her shoulder, and then yesterday she fell again and broke her wrist on the other arm. Her husband, my uncle Bob,
was just diagnosed with sugar diabetes, and is now adjusting to that. My good friend Pat is really having a rough road with
her chemo, and good friend Caroline is just coming off a rough round of chemo as well. Scripture says to "pray continually."
I can see why. I talked to dear friend Velma from church today. She's had two bouts with cancer
over the years, including one almost identical to mine back in '91.She's doing great today, and she's a real inspiration to
me. It was a thrill to see her come to Christ several years ago, and then see her son come to the Savior not too long ago.
Nothing is more fun to see people receive Jesus, and then grow in Him. Well, I guess it's time
to get around for bed. Every day is truly a gift from God. What we do with each day is our gift back to Him.
Love, Jack
"This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."
(Ps.ll8:24)
Sunday, February l9, 2006 Well, hello. Greetings to you on this chilly February night.
Joel is presently filling up the woodburner for the night, and it is nice to know that spring is not too far away.
Just a note of praise that I drove today for the first time since my surgery. My nurse allowed me to drive to church this
morning, and it was great to be there. It was so good to be back in worship, and to see so many brothers and sisters in Christ.
It was also a special morning to have our FEC President Ron & Anita minister to our church family today.
Some of my wife's long time friends took her out to dinner today for her birthday.
I was able to catch a needed nap in the afternoon to re-energize after the full morning.
I am very thankful to the Lord to feel a little stronger each day, and that my vision has
been restored.
Thanks again for the continued prayers, and praise to God for His kindness and mercy.
Love, Jack
"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared
with the glory which shall be revealed in us." (Romans 8:l8)
Saturday night, February l8, 2006 Hi there. Just a brief note on what's going on during this chilly winter evening.
Joel is gone with friends. Jordan is at a sausage and pancake supper provided by Rotary. Pati's off to Fort Wayne. And
Josiah is preparing for his trip to the Holy Land.
I've spent part of the day been checking on some fellow cancer patients. Pat H. is having a rough go of her chemo
treatments. Please pray for her and husband Gary. Caroline is nearing the end of the worst of her chemo, and Jeff is looking
at a very tough road ahead. I can see why Scripture says to "always keep on praying for the saints." There are so many hurting
folks out there. As for me on this cold night, I feel very blessed. I'm sitting in a warm house
with food in the fridge. I'm still losing weight, but I think I'll begin to gain it back after my reversal surgery. At my
present rate of weight loss, however, I would eventually get back down to my original weight, which my Mom tells me is 8 lbs.
2 oz. I am really not worried about the weight loss. I believe it will turn around. One more thing...friends Jay and Tanya,
Stacey and little Kiley from church stopped by today and we had a wonderful time of fellowship and encouragement. Jay has
had a couple bouts of cancer, and Tanya is in the midst of chemo right now. Kiley has some special needs as well. As they
came here to encourage us, I was reminded of how much we all need to be encouraging one another through life's many trials.
As someone has said, "Life is fragile. Handle with prayer." Thanks again for all your prayers and encouragement.
Love, Jack
Friday, February 17, 2006 Well, it is I once again, the patient. I will once again attempt a brief
update. ***Yesterday morning we were visited by friends Pastor Don and elder Gary from Central Church. Along with
so many others, they continue to be strong in prayer for me and the family. I am blessed to have so many praying friends. ***I
received a card and check from Joel's class of 2008. They had a bake sale to raise money for our expenses in the
midst of the cancer surgery. How gracious of them! This has certainly been a humbling experience in many ways. ***I had
the privilege of hearing Jordan and a friend sing, "I Can Only Imagine" Thursday night at the PTO talent night. It felt
good to be out, and I did ok, and the Lord was honored by the boys' song. ***My vision is pretty well back to normal, praise
the Lord. ***The Cancer Treatement Center from Zion, Illinois called today to see how the cancer surgery turned out, and
I was able to share how the cancer was reduced from stage 3 to stage 1. They were amazed, and I was able to share the fact
that it was an answer to many prayers, and a miracle from God. They said, "Well, we hope we never hear from you again." Amen
to that! ***Spaghetti and ice cream tonight. Trying to gain back some of my 23 lbs. ***The Lord reminded me again today
to not get too anxious about tomorrow, but to focus on and be thankful for today. Every day is such a gift, and an opportunity
given to us by God. All praise to Him. Thanks again for praying.
Love, Jack "I have been crucified with Christ
and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me
and gave Himself for me" (Galatians 2:20).
Wednesday, February 15 Well, hello. It's the patient
again. My nurse has busy with taxes the last couple of days, so I will give the update again.
Today I decided it was like spring outside so
I thought I would shave my winter beard off. The Hicksville groundhog did not see his shadow so I'm
getting ready for our early spring!
I've also gotten in a couple of good walks while
the weather has been so nice. The walks are not only good therapy, but a good time to pray and recite the riches in Christ.
Since the episode with the cancer, many of the riches mean more to me than ever before, and I get choked up when I recite
them and think about them. I was encouraged to get an e-mail today from some missionary friends in the Philippines who are
using the Rich in Christ book as the main theme for their family camp this April. Praise God for
the fact that we are truly eternally rich in Him! May He be honored by our lives. I appreciate so much your continued prayers
for my recovery. Please also pray today for three others I know who are presently battling cancer--Pat, Jeff, and Caroline.
Pat and Caroline are right in the middle of some strong chemo, and are having a rough time of it. Well, thanks
again, and all glory to God, Whose unfailing love sees us through each day.
Jack
Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us,
set his seal of ownership on us,
and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit,
guaranteeing what is to come.
II Corinthians 1:21-22
Tuesday, February l4 Happy Valentine's Day!
Hi. It's me, the patient. My wife is busy with our taxes, so I thought I'd drop a short line
to bring you up to date. Praise the Lord, my vision is getting better. I seem to have very little double vision now.
I've been hinting to Nurse Pati, that maybe I'm almost ready to drive, but so far she hasn't taken the hint...
I've been having a little more pain and discomfort in the gut lately, and some fascinating "phantom pains" that have subsided,
thankfully. Weight is something I need to be working on. I seem to have lost a few pounds again. I'm not saying that I'm getting
thin, but I have to wear swim fins in the shower so I don't wash down the drain. Okay, I'm exaggerating, but you could pray
that I start putting on a little weight. And seriously, I truly appreciate your continued prayers, for no further complications,
but above all for God's will to be done and that He be glorified. The rest of the family is good.
Joel is helping with an after-school Bible Study for elementary kids, and working hard on guitar. Jordan is trying his hand
at wrestling. Josiah is working hard in Florida, and looking forward to going to Israel. And Pati continues to be the main
one to keep us all above water.
We continue to experience God's amazing grace. All praise to Him forever!
Love, Jack
Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing
love,
that we may sing for joy and be glad
all our days.
Psalm 90:14
February 11, 2006
Hi, I'm back. Hope you enjoyed the last
update from Jack. I figured you all would like to hear from him for a change. As he feels
up to it he will be doing more updates sharing what he is learning through this "opportunity".
Yesterday his folks came to visit for a few
hours. He had a big outing and went to the Dollar General with them. When he got home he said he wished
he had not went as his "guts" were hurting him. He spent the rest of the day sitting in a chair with his knees up trying
to relieve the cramping and abdominal pain or walking trying to move it. We tried to figure what he had eaten that was
causing the pain. Amazing how the time passes watching what went in your mouth coming out your side! It seemed
like he was clogging up even though he had an excess of fluid coming out. What ever we were doing was not working so
we prayed and for the first time out of the hospital he took a pain pill. That helped him relax and sleep (sitting
in a recliner with his legs up by the woodburner). He is feeling much better today but he did lose over 2 pounds yesterday.
So today we are trying to beef him back up to post hospital weight and hydrate him with the loss of extra fluid.
Our church ladies have been providing wonderful meals
and it has been such a great help during this time of adjusting. I'm not one to think about food much so I'm
trying to get ready for when the meals stop and it's all up to me again. I know I cooked before all this started but
making sure to have all the right stuff with his diet changes will take some concentration and time for me. He
eats small amounts often during the day and I want him to continue to have variety within his diet limits.
Today we had some short visits from neighbors
and a few church friends. We appreciate the encouragement!
We are looking to alleviate some of our debt to my
sister Tina for her service in taking care of Jack. She says this will get him off the hook and she will even take
care of him for a whole week (if I'd let her) after his next surgery if we help her. You all
can be a part of this. If anyone is looking for a good lap dog, a pure breed Pomeranian they are looking for a
new home for their dog Fluffy (He is a male, named by her girls). He is current with his shots and has been fixed.
His only negative is dog breath. We did not smell it, we are taking her word for it! He is a nice family dog
and is house trained. His birthday was February 6 and he is 10 years old. They will give him free to a good home.
He would be great with a family or someone looking for companionship. If you are interested just send me an email or call
and I can get you more information. I will post a picture when she emails one. It's just a time of life thing
where they want him to have a home where he can have more attention to given to him. They are willing to
bring him to the Hicksville area if anyone has an interest.
Please continue to pray for several friends of Jack's
that are undergoing or starting chemo this next week. We are thankful that Jack has escaped that part of cancer
but realize it is a tough time for those that go thru it. Pray they will be encouraged in the Lord and their side
effects will be few.
Josiah is in the process of deciding where to go for
his 4:12 commission internship and would appreciate prayers on clarity of where the Lord can best use him during that time.
He is also getting ready to leave for Israel on Feb 22 with his mission group. Prayer for safety in the air and
protection while in Israel would also be requested.
Thanks again for the ongoing support for our family
during this time of healing and learning and growing.
Thursday, February 9 Well, hello. This
is the patient, giving today's brief update. First of all, words can never express how much I appreciate all of the encouragement,
kind words, and most of all the prayers that have been offered up on behalf of me and my family. So thanks to each of
you who have prayed and encouraged us in so many ways. I certainly want to praise the Lord for
His amazing grace throughout this period of our lives as well. This has been a difficult, but a life-changing time, and I
do hope that I am forever changed in many ways. Please do continue to pray that the Lord will be glorified in whatever lies
ahead, that I will be strong in Him and a good witness, and that the reversal surgery will take place without complications.Thank
you! Little updates and praises... Yesterday I walked to the post office and back without my
cane. Today I took a brief ride with friend Dave Hollander, and didn't see double! Each
day I seem to be a little stronger. My wife and sons are a wonderful daily blessing. We're
also thankful for the wood provided for our wood burner, delicious meals provided by dear friends, cards, calls and
visits, and the kindness and love shown to us by our dear friends. Again, thank you. I am eternally grateful,
too, for the grace extended to us by Grabill Church in so many ways, and for so many other churches that continue to lift
us up in prayer as well. "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most
High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the
LORD, 'He is my refuge ande fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'"
(Psalm 91:l-2) My love and gratitude,
Jack
February 7, 2006
Monday the Dr office called and said that
Jack's protein & sugar levels were somewhat low yet. They said that he might want to see an eye doctor to check
out his eyes more carefully. Joel had an eye appointment today and the Dr said she would research a good doctor for
him and let me know by the end of the week. She said it should probably be an eye/ neurology doctor. It is now
more blurry at times, with movement aggravating it. So imagine what a fright he would be driving on the road right now!
There is no driving for him anytime soon. What little he has ridden in a car, he shuts his eyes. He would
appreciate continued pray that they would clear up before he would need to see an eye doctor. A few others that
have had cancer surgery have shared with us that they have had the same issue and that it has improved over time.
Jack does look better every day. His weight
is still the same, but he's not losing so that is good. A times he looks better than he is really feeling. But Jack expresses
on a regular bases how nice it is to be home and not in the hospital any more. As he is feeling up to it he has been
reading and responding to emails that have been sent over the last few weeks. I have been entertaining him with some
of the goofy things he said while on drugs in the hospital. He is perfecting laughing without hurting his incision.
I needed to leave him for awhile this afternoon to
get some supplies for his ostomie. While I was gone he did something he has not done since he had surgery.
He sneezed! The miracle of it he could never sneeze once. It was always at least 5 times in a row. Well,
he was very thankful it was only 1 sneeze! Thankfully it was not a stitch buster!
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his
mighty power.
Put on the full armor of God
so that you can take your stand against the
devil's schemes.
For our struggle is not against flesh and
blood,
but against the rulers, against the authorities,
against the powers of this dark world
and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Therefore put on the full armor of God,
so that when the day of evil comes,
you may be able to stand your ground,
and after you have done everything,
to stand.
Stand firm then,
with the belt of truth buckled around your
waist,
with the breastplate of righteousness
in place,
and with your feet fitted with the readiness
that comes from the gospel of peace.
In addition to all this,
take up the shield of faith,
with which you can extinguish all the flaming
arrows of the evil one.
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword
of the Spirit,
which is the word of God.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions
with all kinds of prayers and requests.
With this in mind,
be alert and always keep on praying for all
the saints.
Pray also for me, that whenever I open my
mouth,
words may be given me so that I will fearlessly
make known the mystery of the gospel,
Ephesians 6:10-19

Jack continues to gain strength every day. His
endurance is slowly coming back a little bit at a time. He says his vision is not double as much but
seems to be more blurry. I find him looking out one eye a fare amount during the day. I don't think his mother
ever told him if he kept imitating Popeye some day is face would freeze that way! Oh well sometimes you have
to learn the hard way~
He had his Dr. appointment on Friday. We then
went to the hospitial to have his blood drawn to have a complete workup. They want to check his levels
to make sure nothing is off balance. It could be caused by a few different things. Hopefully we will
know something by Monday. In the mean time he is starting to take his Reliv nutrition again to help build him
up.
Home health care came today to
check on his progress as well. She was talking about the reversal surgery and he really is not wanting to think about
it much now. It's too overwhelming at the time being.
We had a wonderful visit with
Josiah today. He traveled by van from Florida with his 4:12 Commission group to Akron for training and preparation for
the trip to Israel the end of February. The group will be here until Tuesday so the leader was very gracious to all
Josiah to come home to see his dad. His friend Wade had a car so he drove him home. We got to watch a bit of video
of Jordan in his play last week and just hang out for a while together. Just long enough for me to cry because I was
glad he was here and cry because he was leaving again. Jack showed off his battle scars and I think Josiah got
and instant idea of a bit of what his dad has been through!
We would appreciate prayers for his
continual healing and for his eye sight to return to normal. We are still working out his diet to keep everything
in balance. He has not gained any weight yet but he has not lost any more either. He is not looking forward to
the reversal surgery in a few months but is trying to focus on day by day getting better for now.
Our friend Jeff that suffered the head injury came home
from the hospital today. Please continue to pray for his complete healing.
Thanks again for the prayers, emails, cards
meals and financial help at this time. It has all been a great encouragement. We know the prayers
sustained us through the days past and are why Jack is doing as well as he is today.
Be joyful always, pray continually,
give
thanks in all circumstances,
for
this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

It has been nice to have Jack
home. He is staying on the first floor for a while until he get's stronger. We have a friend Jeff that has skimmed
and painted our bedroom while we were gone and finished the floor as well. It was great timing and it will be nice to
have a fresh clean & pretty (that part's for me) bedroom when Jack is ready to go back up stairs.
When Josiah was home at Christmas he said it had a nice World War II look it with the paper off and the cracks and stains.
It will now be more relaxing and restful.
Please pray as Jack's vision
is not improving. I called his surgeon's office and they said he needs to get to a local Doctor and get checked.
He has an appointment in the morning at 11:20 a to be checked. Hopefully they can give us some insights as to
why it is double / blurred at times. He takes his cane outside and walks the sidewalks and back yard for his exercise.
The weather has been ideal for him to be walking and getting fresh air.
Our church is providing evening
meals for us since Jack got home and they have been a tremendous help. They have been delicious and a nice break
for me.
Please continue for the man from our
church (Jeff) who fell ice skating last Saturday. It sounds like he is improving but has a ways to go. Also pray
for his wife & son as they are with him at the hospital and helping care for him.
January 31, 2006
Today Kathy and I woke up at 6:30 am and headed to Ashtabula to bring Jack home from my sisters
and also to return Kathy to her husband Monte. Not too many men would be as kind and understanding and willing
to share their wife has he has been during this time. She has been a tremendous help and support to Jack and I both.
Tina and her family and my sister in law Tracy took great care of Jack. He was able
to get plenty of rest and excercise the last few days to work up to the long trip home.
I think they were disappointed I was taking him home! My niece was having fun listening
to him hiccup! Yes, they are back! He said he's going work on perfecting the cure for them. He thought
now that he can stand on his head (I don't think so), he could try swallowing peanut butter at the same time!
Tina said he had a hard time with the hour trip on Saturday so it was a blessing he had a few
more days to rest up before coming all the way home.
He is now 21 pounds lighter than he was before surgery. He is looking good but very
thin. He is still struggling with his vision. It is sometimes double and other times it is just hard
to focus.
After a very, very, very, quick visit with one of our neighbors in her 90's he rested
with the boys and quickly went to sleep for the night. He is quite tired from the ride home. The motion of the
car was a bit much for him.
He is working through his new soft diet and chewing his food very well. He eats very slow,
(yes even slower than me) but quite often. Hopefully in the next few weeks he can start gaining strength and some
weight back.
PRAYER REQUEST:
This last weekend was quite a challenge for several folks in our church body. The church
is becoming more committed to fasting and prayer and that always brings more spiritual warfare. But that
also means that there will be much good spiritual fruit to come from it all.
Please be pray for a young man and his family in our church. He fell ice skating
and got a very severe concussion. Last I knew he was still in the hospital in much pain. We do know the
Lord can work a miracle in his life!
There are others that have need of prayer for medical needs as well and I'm sure they would covet
your prayers.
Thanks again for all the wonderful cards and emails an mostly the ongoing prayers. Sorry I've
not had time to respond to any yet. They are read and greatly appreciated!
I love the emailed suggested name for our ongoing story - The
Teeples' Trilogy " (Trials, Tribulations and Triumph). That's a winner!
"I know your afflictions and your poverty--
yet you are rich!" (Rev. 2:9a)
We who know the Lord are all spiritually rich indeed!
Well what a wild ride the last
2-1/2 days have been. Kathy & I made it home just in time to get the theater to see Jordan do a fabulous job
(I know, I'm just his mother) in the school play "Annie". The kids have really worked hard the last few months
and did a great job. After the play Jordan went to a friends house to spend the nite, with a promise he would nap
on Saturday.
When we got home from the play and were visiting
with our nephew and his new bride, Josiah called to let us know he had gotten back from his Mexico mission trip safely
but had brought back the gift of Montezuma revenge. What a souvenir! LOL
Early Saturday morning at 2:30 am I got a call
that Jordan was on his way home and that he had vomited at his friends house. When he got home a few minutes
later he was having severe pain on his right side and a fever 102+. Having gotten 1 hour of sleep by that time
of course, appendicitis came to my mind. So.... I awoke my faithful friend Kathy to tell her I was headed to the
hospital with Jordan. In a daze she got up and dressed and fell back a sleep on my sofa while I was gone. After
x-rays, a shot, blood work, IV and more they sent him home with the promise I would call our family doctor if he was
not better in 24 hours. I figured the director of the play might want to know about his night incase he was
not better and possible contagious, since he still had 2 more performances to do this weekend! Well he slept
late and we gave him lots of fluid, meds and rest and his fever went down.
Oh it only gets better! I couldn't sleep when
we got home from the ER so I was getting caught up on mail, reading our new health insurance policy, (yes, I read it
all but not a good idea with no sleep) and then laid in bed trying to figure out what to do with the main character of this
unfolding story... My husband! I fell asleep by 6:00 am to be awoken at 6:50 am with a call from Jack saying "I can
come home, so you might want to head out soon to get me". After a short exchange we hung up and I called "Florence Nightingale"
- my sister Tina. She like mornings as much as I do so, but this gave her a jump start to the day. She agreed
to awaken her husband and head to Cleveland to pick up Jack and take him to Ashtabula. Oh no, it doesn't end here.
They had a good ride home but Jack started seeing double when looking at a distance! I ask her tonite if she has
looked at his eyes when he's seeing double to see if he was crossing his eyes. Seemed to me
a logical question. She said she'd look. I'll let you know tomorrow what she says! Anyway, she
bundled him up (makes him sound like an old man) and set him out in the sun for a short while telling him it was
good for him to get some fresh air.
Saturday Jack's family came to see Jordan
in the play. He got rested in hydrated enough to muster another stellar performance! All the kids
were in peak form.
So of course not wanting to be left out of this
mix my tooth started bothering me again ! I need to figure out if it is the same one or a different one. Some
times it's so hard to tell! No biggy but not the best timing.
Today Jordan & Josiah are doing better. Jordan
did his last performance as Daddy Worbucks. We will get a tape of it so Jack can see what a great job he did.
We had a care giver's reunion tonite with the Murbs & Kathy after
Jordan's play to swap updates. Bob got a nice fire going with the seasoned wood that was brought while we were
gone.
We are now trying to work out a time to get
Jack back home. It sounds like he has made great strides at Tina's house. He has a good appetite and is getting
his stoma output regulated. He is using a cane to help balance him while he is walking since they wouldn't let him
take his IV pole home from the hospital. Every day he is doing better. He feels weak but is trying to
keep moving and eating. My sister in law (a nurse) is helping Tina to monitor him until he gets here to have
Home Health Care. I think he's liking directing everyone with his cane and wants to stay a little longer for the special
attention and pampering he's getting.
Seriously, I'm planning on heading out on Tuesday to return Kathy to her very patient loving
husband Monte, and then going on to Ashtabula to bring my honey home. Hopefully each day he will be getting
stronger will make the longer ride home easier.
So, all of the above is why I didn't take the time to update until
now. Thanks for all the folks that came to the play and encouraged Jordan. He really wanted his dad there but
I know he was praying for him through each performance.
I think this might be turning into a Christian replacement
for all you soap opera junkies who are trying to give them up. How's "As the Teeples Turns" sound? Sorry, it's
late again when I'm doing this and there is no one here to tell me "You'd better not say that!"
Let me end by saying the last few days have been at times a challenge,
it does not change who the Lord is to us. It just inforces our continual dependence on his provisions and protection
for every breath we take.
All heaven will praise your miracles, Lord;
myraids of angels will praise you for your faithfulness.
For who in all heaven can compare with the Lord?
What mightiest angel is anything like the Lord?
The highest angelic powers stand in awe of God.
He is far more awesome than those who surround his thone.
Where is there any one as mighty as you, Lord?
Faithfulness in your character.
Our power is based on your favor.
Yes, our protction comes from the Lord,
Psalm 89:
January 27, 2005
Yesterday Jack got a visit from Pastors Hal and Jonathan. It was nice to see some folks from
home. They were able to go on one of his walks with him and see him eat his first soft solid meal since the tube was
removed. Jack was on good behavior while the Pastors were there! When the left they went to Pastor Ralph's room
and join his Pastor, deacons and family in singing a praise song and Pastor Hal lead everyone in prayer.
Jack was doing better than the day before. He continues to improve little by little.
He keeps wanting to be assured that things are moving forward. It's nice to say and mean that he really is.
He still tires very easily but that's pretty normal.
Dr Strong said if he keeps moving forward he might go home on Saturday morning. Jack had
a soft solid dinner last nite and seem to do well with it. He is chewing, chewing, chewing his food so there is no chance
of it clogging. He is VERY motivated to be heading home! If all goes well today and tomorrow morning he should
be able to leave.
I will be leaving towards evening today to go home so I can see Jordan in his play tonight at
8:00. I'm very excited to see him in the play. I know all the kids have worked very hard and are doing a great
job.
My friend Kathy is coming with me home to help drive if needed. If Jack does indeed get out tomorrow
we will leave early tomorrow and come to get him. If not my sister Tina will come to Cleveland and stay with him until
I get back.
PRAYER:
Please pray that Jack's stoma will keep slowing the output to just the right amount. I
think we all prayed so hard to get it started it is now in overdrive! They are using Imodium to help regulate
it so he won't dehydrate and that will probably take a bit of trial and error to get it to the right amount.
That Jack will have an easy ride home from the hospital. It should help that he has had
an extra week to be healing the incision but it will be more activity than he has had the last few weeks.
For Jordan and the rest of the cast on their "opening night" performance.
For safety on the roads the next few days.
Praise:
We will never stop thanking you for all the prayer support and many ways we have been encouraged!
January 25, 2005
Jack is progressing well.
Today he is more alert and making more sense. He only made a few interesting (odd)comments.
They are struggling to keep his
ostomie bag sealed to his body and not making a mess. I was ready to leave for the night after his last walk of the
day and his bag sprung a leak and made a mess of his clothes and the bedding. This is when I'm glad they are doing his
laundry! I think when I get him home and help him with it we will be able to manage it better. His
staples are still in and that makes it harder to keep it on as well.
Today was a big day as they started
adding liquids to his diet. The broth makes him cough (probably effects from the tube) so he's passing on that but able
to tolerate the tea and a few fruit juices. He still has nutritional IV's in so they told him to just pace himself and
go slow and easy. I think tomorrow they will step him up to custard type of foods.
It appears that he could get home
sometime close to the weekend if all progresses well. He is trying so hard to do every right to not have anymore setbacks.
I really think if someone could make deliberators for the intestines to shock them into working they could make good money
on them. It would save the insurance companies lots of money and patients alot of pain! Just a thought for
any inventors reading this who needed an idea.
His favorite PA came in again today
and answered many questions we had. What a wonderful blessing and encourager he is. He really allows Jack to
share his heart for the Lord with him.
Ralph ( the 82 year old pastor)
is going to be transferred within the week and his family would appreciate ongoing prayers for him. He can not
communicate verbally with the family due to his strokes.
Last nite he talked to the boys on the phone for a short
while. A small thing but major for him at this point. It is tiring but its good to see him coming back to life.
When he takes his walks for the day he does well but comes back to he bed and sleeps.
I hope everyone that has prayed for Jack since his diagnosis realizes
that each one of you are part of his miracle. We have felt the prayers and know that is what has sustained us during
this time. Jack is very humbled by all the prayers and encouragement and many acts of kindness.
Psalm 112
1 Praise the LORD.
Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands
January 25, 2006
Praise the Lord! Jack has
finally turned the corner and is hopefully heading closer to being able to come home! Yesterday he started
talking a bit more and was somewhat more alert than he has been for some time. He got the good news this morning that
the tube in his stomach would come out at 12:30. He was like a kid counting the minutes till it was time. The
last few hours seemed like they would last forever. We finally decided to get him cleaned up for the day so that would
take more time and keep him occupied for a while. He was so very grateful when it was taken out! The
catheter also was taken out today as well. He feels so much less confined.
He has nothing yet by mouth but
they will probably start back on clear liquids tomorrow. They continue to increase fluids in his IV's as he is losing
an excessive amount out of the stoma. It only needs to be about a fifth of what it is. They are really working
to keep him from dehydrating. It is slowing a bit but needs to be slower.
He started to talk more and was
sharing some of what the Lord was teaching him in his time of silence. It was hard to know what all he was going
through in his head with such little communication. The Lord truly ministered to him during this time. I'm sure
he will be excited to share with everyone when he's feeling better.
For all of you that he has picked
on during the years, today would be the day you could have gotten even with him. He is talking more than he has in 12
days but ocassionally it doesn't make sense. The nutritionist was going to check his meds and levels to make sure
he's not deficient in something. He remembers things that I didn't think he would but some things have
very interesting twist to them. The problem is he is such a tease it's hard to tell if he's kidding or if he really
believes what he is saying. Usually I can tell but it's even getting tough for me to figure it out!
I'm trying to convince him that
I need to get my rest so I can spend the rest of the time with him and be alert. He did just fine last night without
me. I try to leave after they have given him the last shot of the night so he will sleep. I'm sure tonight he
will sleep very well without the tube in his nose!
He took the time today to look
at cards that had been sent to him. He really enjoyed the encouragement but when he was done he said he needed to rest
as it made him dizzy.
Jack has been his true kind character
the whole time. The nurses all love him and tell him what a kind man he is. They have been wonderful to him.
Several have had some similar surgeries and were empathetic with some of the tough times he has had.
He got a new roommate yesterday.
He has many challenges with his health that are more permanent in nature.
Prayer:
Please continue to pray for the 82 year old Pastor.
They think he has had 2 strokes since surgery. He has a very supportive family who are very full of the love of the
Lord.
Pray that Jack will tolerate the introduction of fluids
by mouth and that the small intestines will keep working but produce less fluid.
I am now on my own this week as Kathy needed to go
home for a while, so prayer for safety for me getting between the hospital and hotel.
Thanks again for the prayers and emails of encouragement.
I haven't had time to answer any yet but they have been read and are a great encouragement!
God is good all the time!
All the time God is good!
17I
keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[a] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18I pray also that the eyes
of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious
inheritance in the saints, 19and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is
like the working of his mighty strength, 20which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the
dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21far above all rule and authority,
power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.
Ephesian 1:17-21
January 22, 2006
Today was another day with a rather interesting start. My sister Tina spent
Saturday nite sitting with Jack so I could sleep. She called about 5:00 am saying that I might want to go the hospital
as Jack had blood all over his bed. They were in the process of figuring out what had happened
a making sure he was not hemorrhaging. Not the kind of wake up call you really want to get. It appears that is
was something they had found in an ultrasound earlier this week and so it was not as serious as it seemed (especially at 5:00am).
They do continue to monitor him closely.
Today they did start clamping off the suction from his stomach for 3 hours at a time the
connecting for 1 hour. He did not get nauseated so that is a step in the right direction. He is still
very tired but he was more alert in the afternoon for a short while.
Jack was able to take 3 walks today and each really tires him out, but he
wants to do what ever will work to get him better. He has a bit of a rise in his temperature today
so they are keeping an eye on that as well.
Tonight Jack's sister Pam & her husband Jeff have come to set with him through
the night tonight. He really likes and seems to need someone sitting with him. We are so grateful for the help!
Thanks for all the prayer support and words of encoragement. We continue to thank the Lord for so many
prayers already answered. I know that is how we are making it through the days.
Please pray that his bowels will get moving and that his strength will increase.
Jan 21, 2006
I've been too tired to write the last few days
so I thought I'd best keep you all update so you will know what to be praying for.
Jack is healing but the intestines are not working
yet as they should. The tube in his nose to his stomach is bothersome to him. He really doesn't complain
but he is struggling to stay positive. We continually assure him that we are in the right place and this will
pass in time. He is resolved that it could be a while before leaving but his goal is now to try to get home by
next weekend to be able see Jordan in his play.
The Murbach's have spent the last 2 nights with him
and the first night he slept very well. Last night was a rough night. He has not had much
morphine the last day and a half and I think that much of the struggle is due to the change of drugs.
He did not sleep much last night until the morning when they were able to give him something to level him out.
It makes him say some goofy stuff (that I won't share) but it does mellow him out.
They had to put the catheter back in yesterday and are adding extra
fluid so he does not dehydrate. Last night they started IV nutrition to help him gain some strength as he has had
nothing by mouth for 3 days.
When I arrive this morning I helped him get cleaned up and
he seemed to be doing pretty good. He has slept most of the afternoon.
Bob and Dawn went home today. I don't know
what we would have done without them! They have been the night shift and a steady dose of encouragement to Jack.
Kathy went home last night to do some laundry for me. She came back today and my sister Tina
also came to help sit with him until tomorrow. I am so very thankful for the helpers that Lord continues
to provide. I took the time today to take a rare nap back at the hotel and do this update before heading back over
for the evening.
Yesterday we met a wonderful family in the waiting room
who was supporting their 82 year old family member who is a retired pastor. They have been such a blessing to all of
us here. Two of the men waiting were pastors and were kind enough to come to Jack's room and pray a powerful prayer
for him. One of the ladies came along and she sang "How Great thou Art". It was a boost of encouragement
he needed. The lady was on the front of the "Plain Dealer" on Tuesday for singing a solo on Martin Luther King Day.
A joyous lady and such an encouragement. The Lord truly does know what we need and when we need it.
We were blessed with another visit from Dr. Strong's PA
again on Thursday. He is such a kind man. He is a real blessing to Jack and I. We appreciate his gentle
spirit and encouragement in the Lord.
I was able to ask Dr Strong again on Friday about the cancer.
He said it had not penetrated the wall of the rectum and was not in any lymph nodes. What a tremendous miracle!
In Fort Wayne it was diagnosed as a Stage 3 cancer that was through the wall of the rectum and in possibly 4 of the nodes.
We are so very thankful for all the prayers from every one and the persistant encouragement from my brother to come to
Cleveland Clinic. We know the Lord opened this door for a reason. Had we not come to Cleveland he
would be in Radiation/Chemo Therapy that he did not need! We are so very thankful to the Lord for working
in our lives and providing the skilled Doctors and Nurses for his care.
The nurses have been very kind to us. They have been
very attentive and willing serve Jack in any way he needs.
PRAISE:
We are continually grateful and overwhelmingly thankful for the miracle
of a stage one cancer. We realize that God is a good God even if the outcome had been different.
Jack is doing well with the incision. It seems to be healing well and he is
able to move about without much pain. At the present time he is taking little if anything for pain. The extra
time spent here healing will make the ride home more pleasant.
We are thankful for all the emails, cards, flowers, and words of encouragement at
this time.
His hiccups have almost completely stopped. The holding the breath and swallowing
seems to be working when he starts up. I believe the real cure was when you all started praying for him. The day
we ask for prayer they almost completely stopped until today.
For Lord's provisions in every way in our life.
I've heard that the men at church delivered more wood to our house last Saturday.
I'm sure Jack would love to be home right now enjoying the heat from the fire! Thank you all!
PRAYER:
Please continue to pray for his sleeping intestines. He needs to have
less fluid from the suction tube and more output from the stoma that has substance. That will let them know that they
are starting to function to a level that is normal.
Pray for the Pastor and his family that has been such an encouragement to us.
He had a 7 hour surgery this week for prostate cancer that paralyzed his legs.
Please pray for the boys and Jack's parents in Hicksville.
Pray that Jack will continue to gain strength. He is still not up to much talking.
It wears him out very quickly.
January 19, 2006
The last few days have had many twist
and turns. I will start with the thrill of
victory! Wednesday the doc stopped by and shared that Jack's cancer was a STAGE 1 CANCER! What
a testimony of God's grace and answer to many many prayers and ultimately the Lord's healing hand on his body.
When he gets past the surgery and healing
up and then has a second surgery to reverse the stoma, he will be DONE. NO CHEMO AND NO RADIATION!
We are so thankful for EVERYONE who has prayed
and those that annointed him with oil and prayed. What a mighty God we serve!
Wednesday when I went to the
hospital to pick him up he had a tube in his nose and a new IV. During the night he started to vomit and his stomach
was very distended. The tube is quite bothersome and when the Doctor's come by his question is are you going to take
it out today?
To compound things the tube triggers the
hicups! So rest is now between bouts of hicups. He has tried some meds, holding his breath, saying pineapple,
massaging his eyes & ears. If anyone has any better ideas once you quit laughing, please let us know. (Would
you believe Joel found these on the internet. Sorry don't send the one about standing on your head because that is not possible
at this time.) He has confided in the nurse that he would "just like to go home now".
He had an ultrasound this morning and
a CT scan tonite. They believe the bowel has a general slowing.
PRAYER REQUEST: Please pray for the intestines to awaken and function
again as they should. We were told this sometimes happens from being moved in surgery. Not pleasant but it happens.
PRAISE: We are so thankful to our very good friends Kathy Scantlen
and Bob and Dawn Murbach! They both returned yesterday to help with Jack and to give me a break. Their
comfort and company is priceless at this time.
Yesterday I read the "riches" to him when it all
seemed to be overwhelming to us. The truth of the Word how God loves us allowed him to calm and sleep.
January 19 11:00 p.m
I just talked with Pati and Jack is just not doing well. The doctor came in and commented
on his "peeked look" and did a cat scan on him. He has also picked up hiccups on top of everything else. We deeply appreciate
your continued prayer support for him.
January 18, 2005 10:30
Pati called this morning saying that she got up and went to Jack's room expecting
to take him home from the hospital she was surprised to find tubes in his nose and looking very exhausted. She found
out that he was throwing up last night and they think he has a blockage in his intestines. His throat is so sore he is unable
to speak at this point. So he will not be leaving the hospital today. She is not sure when but said it could be days.
We will keep you updated. So we ask for your continued prayer support of him as his recovery has been so difficult.
God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
January 16, 2006
Today was another day full of eventful happenings.
I tried to be at the hospital early to catch the doctors and of course they were there before I got there a little before
8:00. (we were told they usually come between 9-11). I walked in the room to hear Jack talking to his new best
friend, his room mate. Sounds like they were both unable to sleep last nite.
Jack's neck has really been bothering him and
we are still searching for the best way to alleviate the sore muscles. I think it is from him sitting up all nite the
day after his spasm's stopped. He was not wanting to lay down for fear they would start up again!
Our best friends the Murbs left last evening
and my best friend Kathy had to leave this morning, but the Monosmiths (my other best friends) came late
last nite to be with me today. You can never have too many best friends!
The surgeon's p.a. came to talk with Jack
and we had a very good conversation. He said he prays every day for the Lord to send the people they can help in their
office. Jack was a definite answer to their prayers as well. They had a nice time of sharing and Jack ask him
to pray for him and he did. (He has the gift of stretching Christians even outside the church!).
Dr Strong came in today to see Jack as well.
He said that by the way indeed the tumor was in the UPPER RECTUM! Thank you Jesus for send us to this man!
It is such a blessing to have another major confirmation that Jack indeed is in the right place! He said it could be
Thursday or Friday before the Pathologist Report comes back to know more about the cancer and staging.
Jacks parent's brought the boys to see him today
as well. They are out of school for 2 days and will head back tomorrow as Jordan has play practice. They
are sitting with him this evening so I can have a break.
The tentative plan is that Jack will be dismissed
on Wednesday if he continues to progress. Today they removed the spinal pump and catheter. He now only has the
IV for liquids and morphine. The rest of the pain killers are by mouth now.
Today he was able to have his first "real" food.
He was careful not to over do as he was quite hungry since he has been on liquids since last Thursday.
"God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never
will I forsake you' So we say with confidence, 'The Lord is my helper;
I will not be afraid. '"
(Hebrews 13-5b-6)
And my God shall supply all your need according
to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19)
Jan 15, 2005 -
Today was a better day for Jack. He was able to walk the halls 3 times today. Each walk
adding a bit more length to his walk. He gets extremely exhausted by the time he is done but he knows it is good for
him. My sister Tina and her daughter Katie and her friend Tim came today and Tim was Jack's spotter in case he would
get dizzy.
Bob and Dawn left for home this evening. We were so blessed to have them ministering to
us for several days. Exactly what we needed. They were a big help to sit with Jack when I needed a break
and encourage me as well.
Kathy's husband Monty stopped by for a few minutes to see where his wife had disappered
to over the weekend. He said a very quick hello to Jack and prayed for him and sat with me in the waiting
room for a few minutes before heading to work. A very quick visit but it was great to get a hug of encouragement from
him.
Katie and Tim took me to lunch and Tina sat with Jack, praying and meeting his needs.
Bless her heart she massaged his feet with his socks on and then remembered he'd been walking the halls and did a major
disinfecting of her hands!
Kathy was a great runner for me today. She went back to the hotel several times
to run errands for me and is always ready and waiting to help me in any way I need.
Jack is slowly getting better but is weak enough that he is not talking unless he needs something.
It is just so draining to try to visit so one at a time we sit quietly with him and try to help with whatever he needs
when his wakes up. His neck is aching this evening and we are trying to find a way to get him more comfortable.
I hope to talk with his surgeon tomorrow morning to learn more about the tumor and staging of
the cancer.
And we know
that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28
January 14th 11:00 pm - Thank you all for your prayers and many notes and calls of encouragement. I left Jack in
the watchful eyes of our Lord to try and get some rest for another day. It has been a very long 1-1/2 days.
Friday morning on the way to the Surgery Center we were waiting for the bus to
come and Jack started to go back into the Hotel. I asked where he was going because the bus would be there
in a few minutes and he said, "I'll be right back, I just want to stick a few more tracts around the lobby".
While we waited for him to be called to get ready for surgery I asked him to say all
the "riches" so we would not lose focus on how much the Lord loves and cares for each us. It
was the reminders we needed to hear from scripture.
PRAISE: The surgery did go very well as was shared by my sister. We will not
know the results of the lymph nodes until sometime next week but the surgeon was encouraged by how well the surgery went and
what he was able to see.
We had a corner of the waiting room filled with folks who came to encourage us and pray for
us. What a major blessing!
We enjoyed swapping stories about Jack, reviewing the "Riches in
Christ", fellowshipping with each other and praying for his surgery.
It was a great time of rejoicing and thanksgiving when the surgery was complete and the
surgeon reported that it had went well and he was in recovery.
The first 27 hours of recovery were very tough. They had a very hard time getting the
spasms under control. As Denise said, finally about 6:00 pm they were able to get him out of bed without him buckling
under the severe pain.
Thankfully since then the pain has been managed and is decreasing. He has been
able to get up a second time. He is very exhausted and tired from getting no rest for the last day, so we are
hoping he can get up and about and do some walking tomorrow and spend the rest of the time sleeping. Talking or
movement in the room has been kept to a minimum. We have talked little other than the essentials of I love you, need
some ice, hi, "I need more pain meds". My last words tonite after I love you were "Don't get out of bed without someone
with you because they won't find you for a long time if you fall! " Then I left the Murbs behind to keep an eye
on him just in case he tried. I found more tracts in his closet and figured he'd be handing them out if he thought there
might be someone who needed to know Jesus.
I am so greatful for all the support over the last several days from Bob & Dawn and Kathy. They
have stayed with me and have been there for all the ups and downs to encourage me, give me some breaks, and help
think through what we could do to get Jack the best care.
Thanks again to all that have had a part in our lives in prayer. We do indeed serve a God of
miracles!
Jan 14 7:40 Jack did get out of bed. He is requesting no visitors until his pain is more managable. Thanks
for all your love, concern and prayers!
Jan 14 5:15
I am writing again to update you on Jack. He is still in great pain and with severe cramping and it is getting worse.
It is putting him behind in his recovery because it has been 24 hours without any sleep or rest. I will update again
shortly as they are now trying to get Jack up --he was unable earlier. Please keep praying. Denise
Jan 13, 06 11:00p.m.
This is Denise again. Please pray for Jack. Pati called and Jack is having SEVERE cramping and in a lot of pain.
They say it is normal but he is really hurting. He is still in recovery and really needs us to continue in prayer for him.
Thanks so very much!!
Jan. 13, 06 3:15
Hello, This is Pati's sister Denise. She has called me with an update on Jack. He went through surgery well! The surgery
was to take 4 hours but it only took 2 and 1/2. The doctors said the cancer did not look like it had spread. They are waiting
for a lymph report. The doctor was very positive. Pati will be able to see Jack in a few hours as he is now in recovery. We
praise the Lord for all your prayers and the good report. We will keep you updated.
Jack's surgery will be at the Cleveland Clinic Surgery Center in Building P at the corner of Carnegie and
East 89th Street on Friday, January 13th.
Jack will need to be at the Surgery Center at 9:00 am and the surgery is to start at 11:00 am.
It is supposed to be a 4 hour surgery. When we know something more we will post it here.
Thanks so much for all the ongoing prayer support.
God is good all the time. All the time God is good!

Health Update on Pastor Jack
Jan 12, 2006 - We are ready to head to Cleveland. We will post the
surgery time when we find out when it is.
O God, your ways are holy. Is
there any god as mighty as you? You are the God of miracles and wonders! Psalms
77:13
January 11, 2006 - Well, sorry for not updating
sooner. When I tried last nite Verizon was updating their sight and would not let me in.
Answers to prayer: My tooth is fine. I'm sure
it is because of prayer but it stopped hurting the next day so I'm trusting it will be fine while we are gone. My lungs
are doing better as well.
Jordan
is back in school and all of his flu symptoms appear to be gone. We were told to try rice water and it seemed to
work very well. He sure did not like the taste but it seems to have done the trick. So far no one else
has gotten it.
Josiah made it safely
back to Sebring, Fla. Grandpa & Grandma Caylor picked him up at the airport.
A mom and
her son from Hicksville visited on Tuesday nite and brought us a wonderful supper. The young man brought
along a card with money he had collected from some of Joel's friends at school to help with our travels and stay in Cleveland.
Jack was very touched by the kindness of these young men. He was overwhelmed by their thoughtfulness and can't hardly
share what they did for us without tearing up. We have always known that Hicksville was a great place to live
and the thoughtfulness of those young men has touched our family in a very special way.
We
had another special friend from town bring us some cured firewood to help keep the fire going while we were gone.
We
were blessed with so many acts of kindness this week from so many others as well. Some were anonymous, and overwhelmingly
generous. We have appreciated all the cards, phone calls, visits and words of encouragement.
Tonight we got packed up so we can
leave by late morning and get settled in so Jack can start his "preparation" for surgery on Friday. We will post the
times of surgery after we find out after 3:30pm Thursday.
Prayer requests:
Safe travel
to Cleveland for us and safety for Jack's parents and the boys while we are gone.
That the
surgeon gets a good nights sleep Thursday so his mind is sharp and clear, and his hands are steady. (We forgot to
ask what his grade was in his Colorectal Surgery class in Med School!)
Pray
for our friends Pat and Gary. She had extensive surgery on Tuesday and did not get a good report. She
will not know the type of cancer until next week. The family is in need of comfort and encouragement
as Pat is healing from surgery and Gary travels back and forth to see her. Please pray that God's grace would cover
them at this time and that they will feel His love and comfort.
That
God's will be done in Jack's life and health. We would love to hear that no lymph nodes contain cancer, but are trusting
Christ for whatever he has for us.
We are grateful and overwhelmed by all the many ways that the Lord is working in our lives
and the lives of many around us. If we continue to focus on the truth of God's word and the many spiritual
riches he has already given us, by the grace of God we will get through this bump in the road.
Thank you all for your prayers, love, and
various ways of encouragement you have shown to us these last weeks.
The Teeple Family.
Jan 9, 2006 -
Well, my apologies to my wife's many devoted
fans who faithfully visit this website on a regular basis. Due to the day she had today, I'm going to try to fill in for
her.
Jordan stayed home from school today, and was
taken to the doctor--probably flu. Pati went to the doctor in Ft. Wayne for x-rays--maybe pleurisy(sp?)and hopefully not pneumonia.
She will know tomorrow about her tests, and prayerfully Jordan will be better tomorrow. (and thanks! to some very special
friends who came and stayed with Jordan in the midst of everything).
Joel and I took Josiah to Toledo Airport today
to fly back to Sebring, FL. Josiah's stay was a good one, and we were thrilled to have him home. Thanks to all who have supported
him and prayed for him. Soon, Lord willing, he will be off to Mexico and then to Israel. Please keep him in prayer.
Went to lunch today with a very good doctor
friend from Hicksville. I have been very blessed to have prayerful support from him and so many others. Thank you!!
Been reading through Isaiah and been very convicted
about what God would have me be and do in the coming days. Cancer has shone the spotlight on many areas in need of change.
Please pray for my friend Pat tonight and tomorrow
morning. She's a cancer survivor who is facing serious surgery at 9:30am.
In closing, God is good, time is short, and
everything is tentative in this life. Again, I am very thankful for so many gracious friends who have stood with us during
this time. Our love and gratitude to you. And finally, my wife has been incredible throughout this difficult time. A
very special thanks to her.
Praise be to God! His love endures forever.
Pastor Jack.
Jan 6, 2006 - Today we spent the day getting the Christmas tree taken down and getting things back in order
before Josiah leaves on Monday. It has been nice having him home for a while, but he needs to get back to his commitments
in Sebring, Fla. His grandparents are there now for the winter so he will at least have some family close by.
I think he's hoping Grandma is going to feed him some of her good cooking.
Jack has been making calls to do some checking in with folks from the church and others as well.
He can pace himself so he's not overdoing it.
Please be praying as Jordan has not felt good the last few days and we don't want Jack catching
what he has before surgery or it will have to be postponed. They are staying separated but that is hard at times.
The three of us will be staying home in the morning to try an avoid catching anything else from anyone before he leaves
for surgery next week. Jack has had to stop taking all his vitamins and herbs until after surgery so hopefully
they will stick with him long enough to keep him strong to avoid getting sick.
Also, if you could pray for my tooth I would appreciate it. I had to go back to the dentist
on Friday as it had broken again and he said I need to call and have a root canal done on it. I thought I could wait
but tonite it is really starting to hurt. So, I'll have to call on Monday and see where I can get in, or if possible
I may just try to be on antibiotics until after we get back from Cleveland. Sure makes life a bit more interesting!
Our friend that we ask you to pray for had her doctor's appointment last week and will have surgery
on Tuesday. Her name is Pat. I'm sure she would appreciate the prayer support on Tuesday.
Shout for joy to the Lord,
all the earth.
Serve the Lord with gladness:
come before him with joyful songs.
Know thtat the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his,
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Psalm 100:1-3
Jan 5, 2006 - Well, it has been a fast 2 days.
Jack's parents arrived to stay with the boys while we were gone. We left yesterday afternoon to travel to Cleveland
for a day of testing and information. The weather was dark, rainy and gloomy which made it all the more, less
exciting. We arrived and got our bearings for the next morning.
While on a walk, Jack met a Pastor that was there from Maryland
whose 37 year old son is waiting for a liver transplant. He was able to pray for and encourage him. He also
met a Pastor from Virginia who had helped bring a 7 year old boy from Central America to be treated for heart problems.
So, if you can imagine this (only if you really know my husband's heart) last evening Jack went to the hospital
with the man to check on the boy and have prayer for him. He was also able to encourage the Pastor in his personal walk
with the Lord.
We saw so many people with such fear and troubled faces today.
It would have been easy to have spent the day just listening to all the stories and praying with many of the folks. During
one of our last appointments a man sat by us and shared that he has brain cancer that has come back for the 3rd time. He
really lit up when we told him we would be praying for him. So many heart breaking stories.
Well, about today. We started at 8:00 am and Jack had
his bloodwork drawn and EKG and then we were on to "education" about all the details about the hospital and surgery.
It was a lot to digest and was somewhat overwhelming at times.
As plans stand now we will be going to Cleveland
next Thursday morning so Jack can start "preparation" for surgery Friday. They will let us know Thursday afternoon what time to be there for surgery the next day. He will have prep time that
morning and then the surgery will be about 4 hours. The Doc is supposed to call me on a phone to let me know how
things went and what happens next. He will then be in recovery for another 2 to 4 hours. He will be
in 3 different buildings during the day. They only allow me to see him after he is out of recovery.
At the present time they are saying he will remain in
the hospital until the next Wednesday. That is somewhat tentive depending on lots of prayer and God's intervention.
We got lots of pamphlets to read to get a better grip
on everything we heard today. It is nice to have a little more time before surgery, (I love having him around more) but
it will be nice when it is over and he can start healing from surgery.
It sounds like I won't be able to stay in the room with Jack
during the nights so I am looking into getting a room close by. I was encouraged to stay close to the hospital, even
for the safety factor. It sounds like the further downtown from the clinic the rates are cheaper but the crime rate
is higher.
In view of surgery next week, we are trying to be very
careful at this time so that Jack does not get exposed to all the sickness that is going around. It would
postpone the surgery and that would not be a good thing. So if you happen to stop by, please be sure you are not sick
or exposed to someone that is and don't be offended if we ask you to use our hand sanitizer or wash your hands.
It's nothing personal just precautions for Jack's health at this time.
One kind of bizarre final note. The place we stayed
last night had a "prayer room" that Jack thought he would go to for some time with the Lord after dinner. When he walked
in the room you would have thought he was in a muslim country. It was 100% muslim. From the prayer rugs pointing
east to the books and sandals. There was not one hint of Jesus
or the Christian faith any where. We looked for "other rooms" to see if there was an alternative and we did not find
one. Needless to say, what an opportunity to blitz the place with appropriate tracts and other literature as well as
to be praying for the lost people in need of a TRUE Savior.
For the Lord is good
and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness contiunues through
all generations.
Psalm 100:15
Jan 3, 2006 - Our morning started early with a loud
knock at the door. Jack answered it and it was one of my fellow garage sale friends. We had been
talking often and would run into each other, even in other towns during the garage sale "season" (kind of like hunting
and fish "season" for the men). She has some very serious health issues and has been very open to spiritual
issues. I've wanted the opportunity to to be able to share more pointedly with her but my wonderful husband was able to do
that this morning. As best she understood she said she's "done all that before".
He spent the afternoon resting and make phone calls and
answering emails while I went to Ft Wayne for an appointment. He did take a nice walk today. He was
feeling dizzy this evening. I'm hoping it is his body detoxing from all the healthy stuff he's been taking.
I realize I do ok with all of this as long
as he "feels" well but the feeling of terror comes when he has symptoms of any kind. Then I have to come back to the
reality that the Lord really does have everything under control and once again I can't go by what I feel but what I know
to be true (our many riches we have in Christ), the truth of His Word.
We are leaving tomorrow in the early afternoon
to head to Cleveland for a day of appointments on Thursday. His parents have agreed to come stay with the boys.
That way they can take Joel & Jordan to school and pick them up after school and play practice.
Jordan is in the school play "Annie", so he
has all of his lines memorized as well as his songs. He is Daddy Warbucks. I told him I would be glad to shave
his head, but he's hoping for a bald "wig" instead (somehow that just doesn't sound right). He is looking forward
to preforming the last weekend of January. If any of you have interest in see a budding star perform, let us know
and we can secure you some tickets. Now I'm sounding like a proud parent...sorry.
A BIG PRAISE: Our friend that has a possible
reoccurance of cancer needed her appointment moved up closer than 11 days, got an appointment for tomorrow!
Please pray for a good report for her when she meets with the doctors.
(I'm writing this at 2:00 am
so Jack has not looked at this yet, so all the above is subject to change if he thinks it is odvious I did this when I was
way too tired. Josiah already helped me delete some other goofy stuff I had written ).
For you created my intermost being:
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the
secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the Days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be. Psalm 139:13-16
Jan 2, 2006 - Today was a nice day to relax and get a grip on the week. Our good friends "the
Murbs" blessed us with a wonderful carry-in lunch and snacks for the football game to come later in the day. It
was so good! It was nice to spend time together.
We were blessed to have a living room full of the boys & their
friends to watch the Ohio State / Notre Dame game. I thought Jordan might need some extra protection since he was wearing
an Ohio State hat! Dawn and I hung out in the kitchen keeping them supplied with the no bake cookies and other more
healthy snacks. Don't worry Jack only ate the good stuff and rested in the front room part of the time.
Words of encouragement from Scripture:
I know, O Lord, that your laws are righteous,
and in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
May your unfailing love be my comfort,
according to your promise to your servant.
Let your compassion come to me that I may
live,
for your law is my delight.
Psalm 119:56
Jan 1, 2006 - We started out the new year by
going to church Sunday morning. It was a blessing to spend time with our church family. The love and care that
is being shown to us at this time has be a great encouragement. We appreciate their willingness to
help us and bear with us as we continue on this unexpected journey.
Josiah was able to share for 5 minutes at
church today about what he has been doing the last 5 months with the 4:12 Comission. in Sebring. Of course his
talk was entertaining (he gets that from his Dad) and encouraging to see him grow in the Lord and be considering
full time ministry in the future.
Jack was able to get a nice afternoon
nap and in the late afternoon we had a wonderful visit with the Handy family. They had lost their son-in-law to leukemia
3 years ago so their daughter was able to give us insights and information that was helpful. Her son came along and
was able to wrap all 3 boys around his finger and they were playing hide & seek (that's been a while since our boys have
done that) darts and more. He was glad to have someone to play with that didn't want to play "house"!
We also we blessed with a visit from the Millers
who came bearing some wonderful healthy food. We swapped paperboy stories and carwash calamities. If laughter
indeed heals, Jack had a good dose today!
Dec 31st - Today Josiah and Tim Wentzel replaced our kitchen faucet. It has
been leaking for a few months and a replacement had been sent but I decided to not tackle this one on my own. As usual
a simple job at our home is never a simple job. But with a trip to Menards to replace a few additional parts,
our plumbers had everything under control and finished the job. So nice to only get water from the end of the
faucet and not dripping underneath! What a nice blessing!
I spent the day rearching the internet for information on diets for Jack
and other possible treatments to help him heal.
Jack was able to talk and encourage some family and friends on the phone
today. We just found out another friend who had cancer and was in remission is now possibly having a reoccurance
in a different place. Please pray, as their appointment to see the doctor is not for 11 days! We know God can
move mountains and schedules. That is just way to long to be in limbo. The family has been a great encourgement
to us this week and they had no idea they would soon be in the same boat for a second time!
We hope to be in church tomorrow morning if Jack is feeling up to it.
Dec 30th - The Lord was gracious to bring a woman who had an ileostomie across my path
today and she was very encouraging. Only having our imagination and no real facts has made this part of Jack's
surgery a bit overwhelming. She was a wonderful encouragment! After our conversation it was very evident that
it may be a transition but a very workable inconvenience. It was nice to come home and encourage Jack with all the info
she shared. The clinic will discuss it with us this week but it was nice to have more of an understanding before next Thurday.
Jack's ileostomie is only supposed to be a temporary one for about 3 months until the
re-section heals and then they will do a second surgery to re-route everything back to normal.
Dec 29th - Last nite we had a Christmas dinner with my side of the family. Jack was able to
share about his Russia trip and Josiah entertained us with some mission stories. The kids played their games and we
tried to get to bed at a decent time.
We had a very early morning today. But it turned out to be a good
day. We arrived early to his ultrasound appointment but they did not start until almost 10:00 am. There was a
lady screaming like they were torturing her so it really made Jack look forward to his turn! They assured him he would
be getting more drugs than her, LOL!
At the same time someone in the waiting room fell off their chair and started screaming "Kill
me!" Shortly thereafter he was carted away. Thankfully my friend Kathy was with the boys, so they didn't
have to watch it alone. I guess they didn't want the boys in the waiting room feeling like they had missed out on the
terror for the day.
The good news is that the doctor was pleased to let us know that all
seems well in his stomach. It is such a relief to put this behind and move forward!
My mom had packaged some great sandwiches for the ride home so we ate on
the fly hoping to get Joel back in time for a youth outing but due to the delays for Jack's tesing we were about 15
minutes too late for him to be able to go. So he gets to hang out with us tonite. (Every teenagers dream, to spend time
with his folks ;o).
When we got home we received the packet from the Clinic for his visit next Thursday
for pre surgery testing and planning. He needs to be there at 8:00 am and will be done in the afternoon. From
the looks of things we won't know the time of his surgery on the 13th until the day before.
For all you wondering, Jack's eyes look at little less bluegillie today.
They are now looking closer to a deer in the headlights look as he thinks about his upcoming surgery. Variety is
nice!
In all seriousness, we are very grateful for all the prayers and the grace the
Lord is showing us at this time. We know the Lord is faithful and he promises he will never leave us or forsake us.
Jack recited the " 109 riches" we have in Christ for me today while we were waiting for the ultrasound and they are truly
a great way to help keep focused on how much indeed the Lord does love and value us. When I am afraid I will trust in
Him!
Dec 28th - We arrived in Ashtabula last nite to spend a little time with
my family before Jack's ultrasound appointment on Thursday morning. The trip out was good and uneventful.
Today I was able to visit a nutrition store today
and learn more about various foods and their good and bad effects on cancer. I talked with a lady whose son just went
through the radiation and chemo routine that Jack was supposed to go through and I was so very thankful that the Lord has
spared Jack from the radiation. Her son's name is John. He is struggling with some of the
bad side effects and I told her we would pray for him. It has brought John back to the Lord so in
that they give thanks.
It will be good to get the ultrasound
done tomorrow, as Jack has that glassy bluegill look in his eyes again today. Those of you who have been around
a bluegill know what that looks like. (He just loves it when I say that! ;o).
It has been wonderful to have Josiah with us over the holidays.
It is definitely God's timing to have him here at this time with us. We will have more of an update after the test at
Cleveland Clinic tomorrow.
PRAYER: Please pray that the test is routine
tomorrow and that his stomach and esophagus is normal with no problems. We truly appreciate your prayers
and concerns.
Dec 25th - Jack did not get much sleep last nite and his gut was hurting today so the boys and I
went to church and he tried to sleep a bit more.
So many people were an encouragement at church today. We so very much
appreciate all the continued love and prayers and words of encouragment. We also appreciate all the offers for help
as well. Things have been happening so quick, it is hard to know what we really need at this time. We are trying
to just take a day at a time and figure it out as we go.
We got to bring Seth home with us after church to catch up what's been going on
in his life the last 6 months. It was a short visit but it was nice to have a bit of time with him to catch up.
Dana & family stopped in for a few minutes as well. The boys helped
give Jack his dose of laughter for the afternoon. I think it might have been a healing dose!
Jack is feeling better this afternoon. He attributes it to all the
prayers.
We are thankful most of all today for Jesus Christ willing to come to earth
as a baby and then as a man lay down his life for our sins. Knowing Christ makes Jack's situation for him a win win.
Our hope and prayer for each one of you is that you have received the gift of eternal life from Jesus Christ our
Lord. Not a one of us knows what tomorrow holds but we do know who holds tomorrow.
"For God
so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal
life." John 3:16
Dec 24th - We spent the day just resting and I needed to get things like the laundry done up again. A couple of
my best friends (you all do know you can have more than one best friend) have been helping me stay ahead but it
can get out of control quickly with the 5 of us.
The boys got a chance to go to Fort Wayne to do a bit of Christmas shopping and Paul treated
them to a holiday movie.
We had our family Christmas and did the traditional picture of the boys in front of the Christmas
tree. They are all getting so tall you can hardly see the tree anymore!
Dec 23rd - What an exciting day! PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE!
First we had a nice visit with a fellow "Hicksvillian" who has been a good
friend since we moved to Hicksville. We are so blessed with so many people willing to help with whatever is needed.
We tried to cancel the appointment with the oncologist yesterday and was
encouraged to keep the appointment, just in case. Wow was that a blessing. If we needed God's handwriting on the wall
that we were headed in the right direction, the appointment today gave it to us. His interpertation of the endoscopic
ultrasound matched the findings of the doctor in Cleveland. It is close to borderline but he encouraged us as well to
have surgery first and if he needs chemo after surgery that he had chemo that should take care of any remaining cancer. He
tried to contact the local surgeon for us and discovered he is out of town for the next 3 weeks. We
need (at least I needed) affirmation that we were headed in the right direction.
MORE PRAISE: When I call the Dr's office that needs to do the upper ultrasound she looked at the
findings from that and it seemed as well to confirm the tumor is more towards the upper rectum.
EVEN MORE PRAISE: The Cleveland Clinic called about 4:00 and they were able to get the upper
endoscopy ultrasound scheduled on December 29th at 9:30 AM. I'm to call the Doctor's office on Jan 3rd to
make sure everything is in order and if all is well from the endoscopy then we meet with the surgeon for pre operation
care on January 5th and the SURGERY will be scheduled for January 13th.
On a side note and no earth shattering miracle, but our ice maker in
the fridge quit working several months ago and then started working while Jack was in Russia. It had quit again and
yesterday a fellow from the church stopped by and he took a look. He tried a few things but nothing appeared to be helping.
Well today it started to work again. I know we could just dump ice but with so much going on it's was just one less
thing to think of doing during this time and even after his surgery.
Thanks too for the folks that brought us wood a few days ago, and the angelic
Christmas Carolers that sang Christmas songs! We have appreciated the wonderful homemade goodies and food as well. So
very many prayers are being answered in miraculous ways.
PRAYER: Please continue to pray the tumor will shrink and the lymphs will be cancer free. Also
that the weather would be good and the roads clear on the dates we are to be in Cleveland.
We've had very little time to do much shopping for Christmas, so we hope to
have sometime tomorrow to figure things out. I guess this is what you would call last minute?! It will be nice
to have a few days of rest mentally and physically before the next round of testing and surgery. Jack has had a very
trusting and postive outlook in dealing with all of this. He has taken many opportunities to share and be an encouragement
and listening ear to other hurting folks.
Dec 22ed - Well it is another day that has
passed. We were blessed to have four friends that Jack grew up with pay us a visit in the morning. It was
a nice time of swapping all kinds of stories including some about bats! One nameless man in his 50's told us he has his Mother
catch the bats at his house. LOL! There was much spiritual encouragement also, as well as a few jokes.
They were all encouraged to be sure get colonoscopies if they had not had one recently. Funny how that can clear a house
quickly!
We had a nice visit in the evening with a fellow from our
church. Jack got to show off his mounted Penn. Buck head and swap a few hunting and fishing stories.
We talked to the radiologist this morning about
our trip yesterday to Cleveland. He encouraged us to make sure it was in the upper rectum. I will give the surgeon
in Ft Wayne a call tomorrow an let him know of the visit as well. We want to keep a good relationship with the doctors
here for future needs. They are all great doctors and have been a great help to us.
We are still praying about what to do, but at this time
unless there is a major change in the morning, we are planning to have the surgery done in Cleveland. The doctor
there was gracious enough to call this evening and answer our questions once again. He assured us he is "certain" that
it is in the upper rectum and that the radiation is not necessary.
Who knows what tomorrow will bring, but today was
a nice day at home to regroup and plan for the days ahead. Jack was having some gut pain today, but figures is it probably
from the prodding yesterday.
God is good all the time. All the time God is good. He will make our
path straight and we know the He is walking ahead of us and preparing the way.
Dec 21st - We just got home from Cleveland about 11:00
tonite. Josiah was gracious to drive us to Cleveland. We met my brother Carl and his wife Tracy, at the clinic
and Carl sat with Josiah and swapped "stories", while Tracy sat with us listening to the doctors.
The first Doc (in training) basically was in
total agreement with what was being done in Fort Wayne up to the current time. BUT (no pun intended) the day took
on a whole new flavor when the main Doctor came in. She did an exam and wanted us to see one of their surgeons as she
felt there might be a better way to approach this situation. She was able to get us a 4:00 appointment so
we were on our way to a new building to meet with a surgeon who specializes in what Jack has.
We had a nice chat with his Christian
nurse from Romania and waited what seemed like a very long time. They were pouring over the information we had brought
and it was well worth the wait. The doctor said there were a couple of different measurements of how far up the tumor
was and they wanted to check for themselves. So we were off to another room where they did a sigmoidoscopy, and concluded
by saying Jack wouldn't be needing the "tatoos" on the back side.
He believes the tumor is high enough that
although it is rectal cancer it would respond like colon cancer and that is should be removed by surgery (WITHOUT RADIATION
- what an awesome ANSWER TO PRAYER!!) and then find out the exact stage of the cancer after it is removed to
then determine if the chemo is necessary! He is confident that he will not have to have a permanent colostomy
after the surgery. They will do a eliostomy (not sure it is spelled right - translation "bag") after surgery that will
be closed sometime 3 months after surgery is complete with another small surgery. We found out the surgeon
is a born again believer as well. He has good bedside manner and seems very confident that this is the right course
of action to take. He has had years of experience "in this area" and said the clinic has papers written up on studies
that show this is the right course of action to take.
He still wants the upper endoscopy ultrasound
done to check out the esophagus & stomach thickening before surgery, in case there is something there to be dealt
with.
So, we are going to sleep on all this information, and
pray about what we learned today, so that we can make a clear decision tomorrow.
We almost canceled the appointment that
we had for today, but thanks to encouragement from my brother and others that a second opinion couldn't hurt and also so many
of you lifting up our situation before the Lord, it appears to have been a literal answer to prayer from the timing of the
appointment to the Doctors that were put in our path. Thank you so very much
to those of you who are praying so faithfully. We deeply appreciate you.
Dec 19th -
Today had a start of uncertainty. We
received a call from the office of the Dr. that did the lower endoscopic ultrasound and they would like Jack to
have an endoscopy ultrasound on the throat and stomach to recheck the thickening that appeared on the CT Scan. Seems
he was looking at the CT Scan closer and wants to make a closer examinination of the area. (before that they just
did an upper endoscopy without the ultrasound) . It is scheduled for Jan 10th.
PRAISE: His PSA is normal and the lung x-ray shows no
cancer.
We spent the afternoon meeting
with the Radiologist today. It was a very informative
time and mentally draining. We were able to have the listening ears of a friend from church come along to help us absorb
and process the information given. At this time (we realize every thing in life is tentative) the plan is to have
28 sessions of radiation therapy that will most likely start on the Tuesday after Christmas. It sounds like at the same
time He will have a chemo drip that will be consistant during that time as well. He will have a pic line put in and
will carry a pouch with the chemo.
We go tomorrow at 4:00 so Jack can be
marked for the radiation therapy.
Please pray as we are planning to go
to Cleveland Clinic on Wednesday for a second opinion. We need wisdom and understanding to be sure we are on the right
course of treatment.
Thanks for your care, love and prayers.
Dec 17th - I was able to talk with a radiologist
nurse on Friday. The nurse was very helpful to answer many of the questions that we have had regarding
treatment. We have an appointment on Monday afternoon with the Radiologist and will find out much more information.
If we choose that direction then he will have another appointment to tattoo the area to be targeted with radiation. It
might possibly be right after Christmas before treatment is started as they must coordinate with the Chemo doctor and we don't
have an appointment until next Friday (I thought it was Tuesday but it is Friday, kinda scary I'm the one to keep things straight!
LOL).
We are enjoying the time as a family this weekend and are
thrilled that Josiah is home to spend Christmas with us. We hope to attend church tomorrow morning and then attend our
nephew Tim Carroll's wedding and the Teeple family Christmas in the afternoon and evening. I'll do the driving so he can sleep.
Jack is using this time to "feed" his body with nutritional
supplements and cleansing tea as well as healthy eating to help heal his body even before other treatments start.
We are so very thankful for all the calls, cards, prayers and
and encouragement at this time. We want to do what is God's will for him in treatment and recovery. It is
a time for ministry in a whole new avenue that we never would have dreamed we would be headed down, but will do our best to
be faithful in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ to those that have no hope or encouragement.
God is good, all the time. All the time God is good!
December 15th - We are back from testing for the
day. The Lord was very gracious as Jack was able to get the upper endoscopy and the endoscopic ultrasound done together
so he is now done with testing for the week.
The upper endoscopy turned out very well. They did
a biopsy on a polyp found in the stomach but they think is will be fine. He said the rest looked good.
The Doctors have staged the cancer as a C2 cancer.
It has broken through the wall of the colon and is in 4 or 5 of the lymph nodes. This Doctor agreed that chemo &
radiation started next week will help to shrink the cancer and make for a more successful surgery.
We look forward to a few days to rest with no testing,
in order to prepare for next week when we meet on Monday and Tuesday with the Oncologist and Radiologist and learn the
details of the treatment that will be starting next week.
We are waiting for the results of his lung X-Ray and
his PSA counts. The Doctor did tell me that in the future, they will not be able to rely on numbers for a
cancer blood test they had taken, as his number is low but not representive of the amount of cancer found.
Thanks for all the many acts of kindness, notes and calls.
AM - Please pray as we are going to the Parkview
Hospital at noon for the endoscopic ultrasound. Pray for clarity of mind so we have wisdom and understanding
as the doctor talks after the procedure.
1 Peter 4:19 - So then, those who suffer according
to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.
1 Peter 5:10-11 - And the God of all grace, who called
you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong,
firm and steadfast. To Him be the power for ever and ever.
Amen.
December 13th.
PRAISE:
1. We are so thankful for all of our family
and friends that are praying for, helping and encouraging us at this time. It means alot to us.
2. Thanks for the prayers! We got
the call today and the Doctor has agreed to work on his afternoon off to do the endoscopic ultrasound
on Jack. The Lord indeed CAN move mountians through faith and prayer.
UPDATE: Today we had an appointment with
the surgeon to discuss the test results so far. He told us there is a cyst on his kidney and his prostate
is enlarged (is that too much information?) and the tumor is rectal cancer. They also found a thickening where
the stomach and the esophaghus connect and they will be doing a test on Friday to determine if it is just a fold, inflamation or
if something else is going on.
At this time with the results so far, they
want to do 6 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy on the tumor to shrink it and then give him 6 weeks to get strong enough to
be able to do surgery. The doctor was very encouraging that we would be able to have a good outcome by treating
the tumor in this way.
Monday and Tuesday we have appointments set
up to see the Oncologist and Radiologist.
PRAYER REQUESTS:
1. The Lord's healing touch on Jack's body to heal the
cancer.
2. Please pray that the test this week go well and
results will be good reports.
3. The Lord will confirm and give us a peace as to the
direction that we are to take in treatment.
I will up date more when we know more. Thanks again for
all the love and prayers! We serve a great God!
Pastor Jack & Family.
December 12th: Elders from the Grabill Church can and annointed
Jack with oil and prayed for the Lord to heal him. It was a wonderful time of fellowship and prayer!
Dec 11th - This is a copy
of the letter read to the Grabill Church family from Pastor Jack.
Dear Grabill Church Family,
I want to thank Pastor Jonathan for speaking this morning. In view of some
recent health developments, I wasn't sure if I'd be here today, and I want to thank Pastor Hal and Jonathan and other church
leadership for making themselves available to help cover bases over the next several weeks. I know that many,
many people get diagnosed with various forms of cancer including a number from our own church, and so I see this as my turn, and simply an opportunity to trust God, hopefully be faithful, and practice what I've preached
for years. I do appreciate your prayers and patience for the present time. I will try to do what I can throughout
the weeks ahead, and I thank those who will be helping to facilitate ongoing ministry at Grabill Church. God is Sovereign
and faithful, and all His ways are perfect. I feel very blessed, thankful, and at peace. Thanks again and all
praise to God for His amazing grace.
Pastor Jack.
December 8th he went for a CT Scan and is currently waiting
for a endoscopic ultrasound to show the stage of cancer he has and if it has spread to other organs. They are having
a hard time scheduling the appointment and your prayers are coveted at this time so that an appointment will be available
in the next few days. It is critical to get this appointment, as surgery to remove the tumor cannot go forward
without this test.
On December 7th Pastor Jack had a colonoscopy and a tumor was found that they believe is colon cancer.
That evening Christan friends came and anointed him with oil and prayed for God's intervention and healing. We believe
the Lord can heal him and are praying for that but also realize sometimes the Lord allows trials in our lives for reasons
we don't always understand.
All heaven will praise your miracles, Lord;
myraids of angels will praise you for your faithfulness.
Last nite he talked to the boys on the phone
for a short while. A small thing but major for him at this point. It is tiring but its good to see him coming
back to life.
"God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never
will I forsake you' So we say with confidence, 'The Lord is my helper;

For the Lord is good
and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness contiunues through
all generations.
