Chuck Pora, the writer

Welcome graphic

Greetings! I'm Chuck Pora, a lifelong resident of Erie, Pennsylvania. I've been a contributing writer for the Erie Times-News and other periodicals for the past 39 years, and writing is my favorite thing in the entire world.

I've recently completed my new novel, Peace to You Too, Brother. This site displays my new effort, as well as my previous books, Pora Lotta Lore and Pora Lot More Lore (all available in hardback and paperback; to preview or purchase them, see below).

I'm also a historian of sorts, and enjoy looking back at the '50s and '60s. This site also shares some of my favorite things from back then with you, many of which are in my books.

Thanks for visiting my site, and I hope that you like it!

**************************************************
FINALLY, MY DREAM HAS BEEN REALIZED!

Peace to You Too, Brother is now ready!

It took 15 years to complete, and was the No. 1 item on my bucket list. And finally, my novel, Peace to You Too, Brother, has been completed, and is now available!

Available in hardback and paperback; also now available in ebook format.

It's a story about three young people growing up in Erie during the turbulent Sixties with the pressures of the Vietnam War hanging over their heads. Based on a true story, it's suspenseful, hard-hitting and educational, and takes you all the way through the Vietnam era. It can best be described as a story of dreams, devotion and devastation. If you grew up during those difficult and tense times, it's a must read. And if you didn't, but would like to learn more about them, it's for you too.

If you'd like to check out or purchase Peace to You Too, Brother, you can do so by clicking on the below links for hardback or paperback. You can preview it by clicking on the word "Preview" below the cover, and then clicking on the right arrow in the upper right corner (there are seven pages in the preview).

Kindle and Nook owners can also preview or purchase "Peace to You Too, Brother" in e-book format through Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble, via the below links.

This, and my other books, are also available at the Erie Book Store, 915 State Street, (814) 455-1088, and Werner Books, 3514 Liberty Street, in the Liberty Plaza, (814) 864-1565.

Thank you for your interest!

As in my first book, Pora Lot More Lore is a book of "Forty fun, nostalgic, dorky and depressing short essays" about the world as I've seen it while living in Erie, Pennsylvania my entire life. Included are short stories on such things as childhood shenanigans; school days; the '60s; baseball; chicks; wacky pieces; serious pieces; and just plain having fun. The essays in Pora Lot More Lore are a bit longer than those in my first book, Pora Lotta Lore, with 284 pages in all.

And now, onto my favorite things:

Favorite TV show: "Seinfeld" -- the most intelligent TV show ever made; second favorite was "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In," the funniest show ever made.

Favorite movie: "Midnight Cowboy," the greatest character study of all-time, with Joe Buck and Ratso Rizzo ("I'm walking here!"); second-favorite is "Coming Home," a brilliant drama about returning vets during the Vietnam War.

Favorite book: Anything by Jeffrey Archer (As the Crow Flies, Kane and Abel, The Prodigal Daughter) or Joy Fielding (Kiss Mommy Goodbye, Life Penalty, Grand Avenue).

Favorite sports team: Any Detroit teams (unfortunately, none of which are doing too well these days).

Favorite food: Cube steak sandwich with provolone on Italian, home fries and french fried zucchini, at Ricardo's in Erie, of course!

Favorite city: Erie, Pennsylvania, where else?

Favorite school: look to the top right.

Favorite activity: WRITING -- it's my passion!

My Hobbies

Sports (baseball, hockey, hoops); newspapers (the Erie Times-News is the greatest!); music (rock 'n roll, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra, the greatest concert you could ever see!); movies (good, intelligent, real life dramas that convey messages or teach things, with NO explosions, swooshing sounds, graphic violence, gore or action heroes); photography; theater ("A Chorus Line," "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Les Miserables," "Hair," "Chicago," and anything by Tennessee Williams); and writing, writing and writing. And I love bothering people with my LOOOOOONNNG emails.
