Salsa Timing:2,3,4,1,2,3,4,1..
Salsa
is a BALL LEAD When beginning, sort of shuffle through the dance. You'll notice there is no "1" in the animation
below. The numbers on the feet represent the music's beat "(1),2,3,4,(1),2,3,4" but in the Salsa, the 1 is held..there is
no step to it. |

Do not attempt to move your hips like you may have seen in a club or a movie.
Relax your toes and move smoothly through the steps. The moving of the hips (CUBAN MOTION) will come later when the timing
and foot pattern is more comfortable. I personally choose to NEGATE the Swish of the hips and instead keep a strong frame
and absorb the rhythm in my knees and shoulders. | |

In this diagram, imagine your base is the red
line (in the middle), This is where you start and it's also where you end.
It is very easy to allow yourself and your weight to move forward and back during the rock steps but
remember that the masculine strength behind the Salsa is the ability to be the well grounded anchor for the woman to dance
around.
Your steps forward and back are merely keeping time to the music. Keep the majority of your weight over the red line area and you will be leading your partner around you.

The Salsa has a cow bell (literally)
and it hits every 4th beat, it is on that beat that you must pause in the middle. In
other words, the steps when explained would be:

Forward-rock, together/hold, Back-rock,together/hold.
For
the more experienced, you should almost feel as though you are going to miss the beat, but in reality, you will fall right
on.
Once your comfortable with the foot pattern, the most
important part of the dance is the timing |
