In any room design, there are many layers to consider when
decorating. Below you'll see the services I offer in each area.
Choosing a color scheme (especially a paint color) can strike fear in the
hearts of many people. Fortunately, I'm not one of them! And while Interior Decorating is more than just "having
an eye" for color, creating a color palette is my specialty, whether it be paint, wall coverings or furnishings and accessories.
A little color can really go a long way toward making a home feel warm
and welcoming. If you can only afford to change one thing in your room, paint color gives you the biggest bang for your
buck. Because it is, afterall, one of the least expensive ways to make the biggest impact in a room.
When choosing window coverings, you can easily become overwhelmed
with the myriad of choices. You can also spend a large part of your budget here. But I can help you choose wisely.
And if a custom look is what you desire, I can create window coverings for you, in some cases. Otherwise, I can make
necessary recommendations.
Choosing accent fabrics can be just as intimidating as choosing a paint
color. I can help you avoid costly mistakes here, too.
Accent fabrics can be used
in many areas: upholstered furniture, pillows, table coverings, bedding, and lamp shades, just to name a few.
Not only must colors be considered, but you'll also have to deal with patterns and textures. I can coordinate all these
choices, whether we work with what you have, buy stock items, or you prefer to have custom-made items, some of which
I can create myself.
UPHOLSTERED AND NON-UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE
|
Furniture can be the most expensive pieces in your decorating puzzle.
Re-upholstering or re-finishing existing furniture can sometimes be a more cost-effective option than buying new.
I can help you determine how best to use the pieces you already have,
or I can find new pieces, keeping in mind the compatibility of furniture styles.
If you do need new furniture, I can shop for you, thus saving you alot
of time. I can also shop with you.
If you need to make changes to your current furniture, I can recommend
several excellent shops that do beautiful custom work.
Once your furniture choices have been made, I provide room layouts and
furniture placement, considering effective space utilization.
While your budget may not always allow for new flooring, existing floor coverings will play a key role in a room design.
If new flooring is in the plans, I can help you make these choices, whether they be carpet, hardwoods, tile, rugs, or more.
I can even recommend flooring experts to carry out the work.
Lighting can make or break a room design. From general lighting
to task lighting, your existing architecture plays a large role in your lighting choices. I can help you get the best
out of what you have, or guide you through other options.
This is one of the most often overlooked element of a room design.
Accessories can be considered the "jewelry" of a room, and are an excellent way to tie together all of your major
choices (i.e. other layers of design) and give your room a finished look.
"It's all in the details!" This popular phase could easily sum
up my philosophy of design. When decorating a room, I pay attention to all the many little details, so you don't have
to.
And once again, whether we are re-arranging your existing accessories,
or adding to them, I can shop for you. I can then bring the items to you, to see how they actually work in your
room. This can save you alot of time and frustration.
While accessories in general are often overlooked, the one accessory
most often forgotten altogether is plants.
Can plants help create ambiance in a room? Absolutely! Which
is better - the real thing, or silk? In the real world, the real thing may not always work. If you're like me,
you don't have a green thumb, but you do have pets and kids! I can show you what a difference having plants makes, and
help you determine what is best for you.
While this layer of design goes hand-in-hand with the last, sometimes,
a difficult part of accessorizing is remembering the old adage - "Less is more!" You may find the need to pare down
what you have, or you may just need some help organizing it.
That's where I come in; having someone to give you a new perspective
can be a tremendous help. And freeing yourself of clutter can be a very enlightening (or life-changing) experience!
I can help you through this process.
Besides giving your room a finished look, accessories can be an integral
part of creating a "themed" room. Whether I'm using animal prints, rubber duckies or anything else you can imagine,
I can create a "one-of-a-kind" room just for you. It's a great way to have fun with the things you love!
