If you read between the lines, what I meant was, it ain't cheap. Don't get me wrong, no one said it was going to
be cheap, but it always costs more than you plan. Always!!!
I'm not doing this project the cheapest way possible. I am trying to balance, the money on hand with the cost of
the plane with the time it will take to complete.
Ways I could have saved some money:
1. Go for fewer options - The options I have chosen have cost me $1615 - I think that if I am going to go through
the work of building an airplane, it is going to be what I want.
2. Purchase the entire kit up front - this option provides for a savings in kit costs, crating costs, and in shipping
costs. I would estimate this route to be around 1500 cheaper - This requires you to pay all of the costs up front. I
chose to spend more and to spread the costs over the life of the project.
3. Pick up the kit at the factory - This option is only feasible combined with number 2 - I live in Florida and I don't
have a vehicle capable of transporting this kit, which means I would have to rent something. When figuring in rental
fees, hotel fees, and gas the savings would have been almost negligible. Besides I chose to order component kits which
made it unrealistic.
4. Plans build - there is the possibility for significant savings (I don't dare guess what the cost difference would
be) for someone capable and willing to build an airplane from a set of plans. I don't have the patience or even the skill.
Long story short, below is a list of what I have purchased and what it has cost me to date.
