This page will change throughout the year to show progress on my new house. I am building a Santa Fe style home in the
Indian Wells Valley, in the high desert of California. The photos below will be added to as progress continues. This page
is very simple and not too elegant, but I would rather spend my time working on the house than writing code right now. Maybe
after the house is done, I'll make this page more elegant. The entire project started as a project between myself and
my wife. In September 2006 my wife passed away, so I am now concentrating on completing the house by myself. This house is
dedicated to the loving memory of Marilyn, my wife for over 37 years.
My home is framed entirely of steel rather than wood. I started the project with a blank sheet of paper and drew the
basic design. The final architectural work was done by Pecan Creek Consulting of Houston, Texas, and the structure was engineered
by Classic Steel Frame Homes of Houston, Texas. Classic then produced the steel package for me, which is precut and punched.
There is no welding required but shipped with the steel was 27,600 screws and bolts. I have since purchased an additional
18,000 screws so far. This is a real serious “big kids erector set”!
