Finally something a little different!!!
Kiuas brings us The Spirit of Ukko and let me tell you...this stuff is great. Basically it blends melody, speed,
aggression, catchy choruses and great musicianship to create a well-blended hodge-podge brand of metal. These elements
create a sound different from what I have heard recently.
Vocally, the singer has a semi-rough mid-range voice which occasionally
smooths out and gets rougher. Sometimes aggressive and sometimes reserved, but always full of energy. There
is also the guitarist who handles the 'grim' vocals placed sporadically throughout the album. Nothing overbearing and
usually well-placed.
Overall, they are heavy and a little on the fast side, but there are are
several timing changes in each songs to break up any monotony and they also infuse some string arrangments and a cello in
parts that add a nice change of pace here and there.
So for something different, check these guys out....you won't be disappointed.
