Take a little Katatonia, some Amorphis, a pinch
of The Cure and what do you have? The Wounded of course!!
This is a nice dose of goth rock/depression metal. The first thing
I noticed was the vocals of Marco van der Velde. Not an overpowering voice or deep...he has that desperation and futileness
in his voice, similar to that the singer of Katatonia. He doesn't sound like him, just the characteristic of someone
without hope. Lyrically, they are similar to the above bands and those like Sentence, To Die For etc... depression,
despair and the like.
Musically, it is as expected from the above characteristics...dark brooding
and forboding. Those that lack future, goals and life essence will bathe in the atmospheres and dreary melodies
spewed forth by The Wounded. A nice collection of songs to listen to in the dark, alone on a cold & desolate night.
Even the cover of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit" evokes a feeling of things coming to an end.
Recommended to those without a light at the end of the tunnel.
