To Die For has always been one of my favorite
goth-rock bands. It was their debut All Eternity that sold me on the style. The major difference between
TDF and other bands (other than the fact that they write great songs) is the vocals of Jape. Basically, deep to mid-range
with a certain type of desperate intensity absent from many goth singers. TDF has always satisfied my goth-rock needs.
Now TDF brings us the aptly titled IV, their fourth installment.
It contains all the aspects that makes TDF great. Some great melodies and hooks but this time, lyrically, Jape has turned
away from love-lost and deperate-for-you to more of an introspective into the mind and soul. A nice change of pace if
you ask me, but then again, I am biased!!!
There are a few filler songs on here though (which does not make me very
happy) and they have their normal cover song. This time it is U2's New Year's Day. (Previously - Sandra's
In the Heat of the Night and Cutting Crew's I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight)
They do it justice and change it to their style. There are also
some killer songs on this so it is worth checking out.
Not their best, but far from being a bad disc. Slightly above average,
but if you are just getting into TDF, go with All Eternity.
Favorites: Autumn Forever, Lies (for fools), Little Deaths, Endlessly
