I have always like the idea of recent Bessech (basically starting with their last album
Drama )...clean male and female vocals set to goth-rock music. You'd think it would be more common with the
subject matter of goth albums, but it never seems to be. Sure, there are guest vocals and such, but hardly ever full-time
male and femal vocals.
Anyhoo, on to the the music. The first half of the album is great.
Interplay between the 2 vocalist. Trading lines, one singing the verse and one the chorus, both singing the chorus...etc.
A nice mix. The songs themselves (including a cover of Danzig's Devil's Plaything) are prime examples of what
goth rock is all about... lost loves, dire circumstances and just all sorts of inner trauma along with catchy hooks and sometimes
crunchy guitars with a nice solid production.
Then you get to the second half of the disc...while not bad..just seems a little uninspired.
Perhaps all the good ideas were used up into the frist 5 songs...dunno. Overall a good album, but the second half
kinda drags the album down.
