Dyecrest offers up a nice heavy metal album. The songs are a nice variety
of heavy, fast, and slow moments mixed with some cool interludes in the songs. None of these songs suffers from
redundancy or lack of ideas as none of these songs really sound alike.
Vocally, it is mostly mid-range stuff and has a very pleasing tone. Never tries
to go to high and annoy but does vary his voice pending on what the song needs...soft, rough, strong or emotional...this guys
delivers the goods (although I suspect someone else is doing those real rough vocals, but I could be wronf). There are
are some killer choruses on this disc as well.
Musically, the songs have some crunch and and mixed with a good dose of melody.
The only limit is the production. The slower, heavy songs sound great with this kind of rough production, but the speedy
stuff suffers a little. A minor flaw on what I think is a great album. The only 'major' flaw is the first half
of the album is stronger than the second. I just couldn't get into it as much, but it is still good.
Anybody heard their first one?
