While never hearing this disc, only their two releases after (Rise to Power &
One Step Beyond), I am glad they decided to re-record this. What we have here is Gamma Ray (mid-era) influenced
power metal. Lots of double bass, fast & catchy guitar work, catchy (and sometimes big)choruses ... did I mention
double bass?
The majority of the songs are pretty fast....not blindingly fast, but Gamma Ray fast.
The best song on here, I think, is Severed Ties, which is a slow to mid-paced number with an emotional feel to it.
I liked the break in the constant onslaught of Dungeon's faster stuff. Not only that, it is a great song...wonder if
this is a staple in their live show...hmm.....I see a lighter...many, many lighters.....
The rest of the songs are fine, ranging from good to ho-hum....heard that before.....perhaps
if I had heard this in 1999 I'd be going ape-shit over it. Guess timing is everything.
The production still has that underground feel. I don't know if Lord Tim was
going for this, but he got it. Perhaps trying to stay somewhat true to the original work.
Not bad, just have to be in a speedy mood and not want to listen to all the other discs
I have that are fast. BTW, the limited version contains a video, 3 bonus tracks (including an acoustic version of Severed
Ties, and a live concert recorded in Japan)
Favorites: Resurrection, Paradise, Severed Ties, The Legend of Huma
