Welcome to my knitting--no, fiber arts--no, artisan blog.

Other knitting blogs inspired me to start a knitting blog. But I also crochet, weave, and make jewelry, and I'm just learning to make cheese. So I guess that makes this an artisan blog.

Not Socks!
Once Conrad's and Micah's socks were finished, I had to start something else. I know I should be finishing things, but here's all this pea-green yarn for Lynn's sweater. Lynn still hasn't told me the measurements for the sweater, but you can't go too far wrong with sleeves, and I normally start with the sleeves anyway, so the sleeves are under way:

There's probably enough yarn for a sweater. I ordered 10 balls, but they only had 9 left. The sleeve on the right is about 12 inches (30 cm) long, and that's one ball of yarn. I'm doing the whole thing in the round so I don't have to waste any yarn on selvedges or seaming. If I get to the yoke and I'm running out of yarn, I'll add an Icelandic-style pattern. I want to avoid that, though, because Lynn thinks the flecks take away from the peagreen-ness of the yarn. Imagine what she'd think of a multicolor design on the yoke.

What Santa Brought
Apparently Santa knows my secret identity. He brought me Nancy Bush's Knitting Vintage Socks, Lela Nargi's Knitting Lessons, and a cheese-making kit:

This kit should make several pounds of cheddar. Unfortunately, extra-sharp cheddar, which is what we eat, takes about 2 years to age, so we'll be waiting awhile to taste the fruits of our labors. (Yes, that's a hand-crocheted snowflake on the tree.)

Ho Ho Ho
I've just finished a pair of socks for Micah, the nice young man (I've never met him, but Conrad has) who has taken Elizabeth off all our hands:

And a pair of socks for Conrad for Christmas:

These are Meilenweit Megaboot Stretch. The yarn looks very thick, and between that and the "megaboot" I figured this was heavy yarn, but it's not.

Over Thanksgiving while Lynn was here I got her to look at the sale yarn at Carodan Farms. They were having a sale the day after Thanksgiving, and she picked out this Sirdar wool blend:

So as soon as I know what size to make, I'll start a sweater for her from that. The next pair of socks will be the Baltic socks from the Mustersocken Knitalong.
