Welcome to my knitting--no, fiber arts--no, artisan blog.

Other knitting blogs inspired me to start a knitting blog. But I also crochet, weave, and make jewelry, and I'm just learning to make cheese. So I guess that makes this an artisan blog.

How I'm Spending My Summer Vacation
I'm getting a new book next week, but until then, I'm on vacation. That means I get to knit as much as I want and read anything I want:

That's the beginning of a pea-green summer sweater; must be for Lynn, huh?

No red pencils, no more books . . .
The foot and ankle book and the family medicine book are finally done. Now I can do something else, like finish these:

This is Opal yarn that I got on eBay. It's a ball from a test batch that never went into production. I can't begin to imagine why. Aren't we all a little tired of the narrow stripes by now? I love this one. It took three tries to get the second sock started in the right place so they'd match. I've never tried to make the self-patterning socks match before, but I could see once I'd turned the heel that it would be pretty easy with this yarn.

Orange Socks are Done
So that's something. As I was approaching the toe, Conrad asked for a red toe, so I used the same yarn I used for Lynn's red toe. It almost doesn't look too bad with the orange yarn. This is the same pattern (Dublin Bay) as Lynn's pea green socks with one red toe:

Nothing but Work
All I'm doing right now is working, except when I take a break to sleep or shower. Pathetic. This means it's time to post some jewelry pictures.

Here's my first bezel setting. This is a round hematite cabachon.

Having learned the basic technique, we took a stab at bezel setting an irregular-shaped stone. This is unakite:

I was planning to make a chain, but I bought this one instead.

To Dye For
Yesterday we were having the end of winter; today we're having the beginning of summer. That means it's time to dye some yarn.

When Sarah was here over her spring break, she looked through my knitting books and found a sweater for me to knit for James in the Dale 126 book. Then I got the deal of the century on some Henry's Attic yarn on eBay, but it's undyed, so now I have to dye it. So that's what's going on today. I think the blue needs to be darker.

Meanwhile, the orange Dublin Bay socks are growing:
