February 2008
David was in Portugal in February for a conference, and was scheduled to have some meetings in London on the way home.
So we arranged for Sue to fly across and meet him in London. While Dave worked, Sue visited her aunt Janet and cousin
Catherine, and then we managed to have a couple of days looking around the big city......
It was one of those whirlwind "try to fit all the main sites in within 2 days" type visits. We did alot of walking and
managed to see Notting Hill and Portobello Road (finding the house with "blue door" from the movie although it is now black,
and also the Travel Bookshop - we love the movie.....). A highlight was having high tea on Portobello Road including scones
with jam and clotted Cornish cream. We walked through Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, had espresso in Harrods, climbed St
Paul's Cathedral right to the dome, visited Buckingham Palace (although the Queen would not visit with us) and had a
great Indian meal at a restaurant about 400 yards away. We also walked around the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster
Abbey. On our last night we met Dave's cousin Luke and his wife Renee for dinner at a little pub on the Thames. They are working
over in London and it was great to catch up....
